To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

I like having my hair and eyelashes done. Managed to find someone mobile who does it cheaper than your average salon. I buy fake lashes from Amazon and glue them on myself. People might think it's tacky but it makes me feel good. I do like having a good tan but can't be arsed to apply it and I'd love a set of manicured nails but hate the feel of them. Also got my eyebrows micro-bladed four years ago but topped them up last year. My real eyebrows are damaged from over-plucking in the early 00s when pencil thin eyebrows were all the rage. 😂

Yes, I'm probably considered a bit high maintenance among my friends but I don't care.

Divorcedalongtime · 05/05/2023 02:07

None of those things

CamoFlamingo · 05/05/2023 02:32

No I don't think everyone done this and even high maintenance people have a variation of this. I've become quite high maintenance now I'm in my 30s but I've never had my nails or eyebrows done or bothered with tanning. I do pay for injectables though and have an extensive skincare routine.

BSB30 · 05/05/2023 03:37

I do none of those things and I don't even wear makeup. Way too much hassle and effort

LadyAstor · 05/05/2023 04:08

The only woman I know who does any of this is our Receptionist at work. Pretty much everyone thinks she looks ridiculous with the patterned gel nails, lash extensions, laminated eyebrows, lip filler and fake tan. Even more so because she earns so little to be spending so much on beauty treatments.

mrshenny · 05/05/2023 04:11

I also do none of those things. Your friend is right but I think you know this.

FarmGirl78 · 05/05/2023 04:15

Nope. I don't know ANYONE who does who does these things regularly. Haven't got the time, money, or inclination. Its bizarre that you think most women do.

Aslanplustwo · 05/05/2023 04:25

I don't do any of those things.

PinkButtercups · 05/05/2023 04:42

I don't do that much no but if that suits you than fair enough.

Not sure why people keep referring to lip filler as 'huge blown up lips' most who get lip filler do not get it done to the extremes and most people you wouldn't even realise they had it done!

I wouldn't say no to Botox or lip fillers if I wanted them. It's your body at the end of the day.

lljkk · 05/05/2023 04:54

I wonder what the MN record is for a thread filling up, suspect this thread will be a worthy contender.

Adult 20-something DD is very insecure, worries about her appearance. I wish she was more happy in herself.

Glittertwins · 05/05/2023 05:05

I knew of one person who did this and had the boob job too but that's the only one I've ever come across. Nobody else I know, from grad age upwards has anything like this

Huffingood · 05/05/2023 06:37

Maireas · 04/05/2023 22:35

What's the point of taking it off just to put it on again? I don't understand, never use it.

Strange logic. That’s like saying there’s no point in having a shower because you’ll just get dirty again…if you like the look of a tan /like being clean that’s the nature of the job!

Tarantullah · 05/05/2023 06:58

Some of these replies are so vile and judgemental, women really are disgusting to eachother aren't they. The comments about people they know in real life looking ridiculous or judging what they spend their money on, bitches.

Dweetfidilove · 04/05/2023 23:45

I'm genuinely curious here...

Is this how the finished product is meant to look when it's done naturally?

All I can see is one set glossed, one not. No other visible difference.

Yes. Same with Botox. It only looks fake when it looks fake.

Do some people overdo it? Of course. Sometimes it's even deliberate...some people like the fake look.

But a good practitioner will avoid that unless you really really want it. Most Botox and fillers is like this. You wouldn't notice it because it's subtle. You wouldn't think she's got fake lips, you just wouldn't think she's got especially thin lips. You wouldn't think she's got a spoon for a forehead, you just wouldn't think she's very lined and tired looking. You most likely wouldn't think anything at all. Lower doses of Botox don't freeze you. They restrict you a bit but you can still knit your brow, just not quite as deeply. For a while. Until it wears off and full movement returns, but the lines still aren't there.

But I don't actually like to tell people this. I prefer it when people think they can always tell because it's so obvious. It means they have no idea what they're looking at and no idea what it usually looks like and those of us who do it properly (most of us) continue to get away with it.

Cracklecrack · 05/05/2023 07:00

Also do none of these thing. I get my haircut around every 3 months- I’ve started getting it coloured too.

I wash and moisturise and I spend minutes in the am putting on some basic make up and maybe 10 minutes on my hair. I don’t have/ choose to spend my time/ money on other things .

Kazzyhoward · 05/05/2023 07:02

Wow, I do none at that, you do sound high maintenance I'm afraid.

GeorgeGerald · 05/05/2023 07:08

YABU

Nails - had them done about twice in my life. Hate the look of long nails now. I cut my once a week and that's it (play piano).
Eyebrows - I just pluck the stray hairs when I see them
Facial - again, very rare, maybe once every five years.
Fake tan - once a year maybe twice
Botox - never
Lips filled - never (don't need doing)

I get my hair dyed every 4 weeks and cut every 8 weeks - that's about it.

I don't know directly anyone who does all that you do.

midgemadgemodge · 05/05/2023 07:10

But I don't tend to think "oh she had think lips" or "oh she looked wrinkled and tired"

I think "ah there's my friend - what are you up to today or I must ask her about ...

Do the people who do all that stuff actually take note of how old they think I am looking ? Are they judging me on my appearance against some artificial standard ?

It seems rather unpleasant if they are

RobinaHood · 05/05/2023 07:10

When I was in my 30s - I regularly did hair, eyebrows, massages, fake tan for nights out. I never liked getting my nails done.
In my 40s - hair. That's it 😄 but Covid/work/DCs definitely impacted all those routines. I still buy lots of skin care products and make-up.

doadeer · 05/05/2023 07:11

No I don't think this is common.

I do get my nails done recently as I was biting them and it helps me stop.

But I don't do botox, filler, eyebrows.

I get massages every few months but rarely a facial

Lcb123 · 05/05/2023 07:16

No, I do none of that and don’t know anyone who does. I have 2 haircuts a year! Blows my mind you have chemicals injected in your skin

potatohead1 · 05/05/2023 07:22

Glittertwins · 05/05/2023 05:05

Might be geographical. Mummy makeovers (hate that term) are super common around me. I haven't but I know several who have. I also see many women with very flat stomachs and pert boobs after 3 dc so I suspect some of them have too.

QuintanaRoo · 05/05/2023 07:23

You’re very high maintenance. Neither myself nor any of my circle do this and we’re all well groomed.

I’m probably at the lower end of the spectrum, haircut twice a year, do my own fringe inbetween. Wash my face, add moisturiser and make up most days but that’s it. Dye my own hair.

I work with about 300 women, one gets lip fillers that I know of (they’re obvious).

Couple of friends get highlights. Nobody I know gets Botox, nails might be done before a holiday. Nobody I know gets a fake tan unless for a wedding, Xmas party.

Maybe she feels good about herself. Maybe she needs to do something as she's working with vipers who gossip and bitch about her.

Oblomov23 · 05/05/2023 07:24

I don't know anyone who does any of that. I think most women go none of that.
