To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

It’s the tiny things. That’s what makes the well done Hollywood stars look like they have been sprinkled in fairy dust. They look natural and yet they just look…better than mere mortals. It’s all in the detail. It’s when the tiny tweaks are made that the overall look is ‘refreshed’. But still natural.

Why do normal women need to look like Hollywood stars and refreshed? When they have perfectly fine lips? Yes, I know, because it's her money.

Farmhouse1234 · 04/05/2023 23:43

I don’t do anything really, but I don’t feel good about it. A bit more self care would likely make me feel better than being unkempt / scruffy. I struggle to find time. I’ve no idea how other people do. I know I’m going wrong somewhere!
if I had the money I would have lots of facials / pedis etc. I’d never have Botox though or anything that involves injections / operations.

Bingo

It was a genuine question. I was thinking of my amateur musician mates, the flautist, the trumpeter, the clarinetist (I play french horn, badly)

Walking, swimming, lifting, charity stuff, that's great. Thanks for engaging.

I like sex. Not sure if that counts as a hobby. My subtly filled lips have no impact on my ability to administer a bj if that’s what you mean.
I also lift weights. Walk my dogs in the country side and volunteer at a charity. None of these activities is impeded by what I do to my face either.

Wind musician here. I can assure you that giving a blowjob and playing a brass or woodwind instrument require completely different muscle sets. I can also assure you that botox and fillers are not compatible with playing these instruments. We can't even wear lipstick to play, never mind alter the shape of our lips or function of our facial muscles.

This is my lip filler.

I don't care if you think it's noticeable or not. Or if you like it or not. I love it, but not one single person (even my own mother) realised I had it done. I think it looks very natural.

I'm genuinely curious here...

Is this how the finished product is meant to look when it's done naturally?

All I can see is one set glossed, one not. No other visible difference.

Same. Both look nice and natural.

No we just sit all day being fanned by our slaves 🤷‍♀️😂 what kind of bloody question is that. How small minded are you.

You’re certainly not intellectual so who are you to talk? This thread is drivel.

Then defo don’t get them done!

Mamanyt · 04/05/2023 23:49

The only women I know who do this sort of thing with the regularity that you do are either very wealthy, or work in positions where physical appearance is equated with worth.

Myself, I wash my face daily, deep-cleanse twice a week, and pluck my eyebrows lightly when they start looking straggly. It's all I have ever done. At 70, I have very, very few wrinkles. My lips are thin, but they are my lips. And most people, when learning that I am 70, are shocked. LOL, I don't know why, the bags under my eyes turned into steamer trunks at least a decade ago!

Overthinkingperhaps · 04/05/2023 23:51

Wow there are some judgmental people on here.

I have my hair done and highlighted every 8-12-weeks.

Nails maybe once every 2 months ish. If I have somewhere to go.

Eyebrows every 4-6 weeks
Just a wax and tint (they're blonde)

Botox every 12 weeks.
Wonderful stuff.
And nope I'm not frozen. But I don't look like I want to kill everyone.
My lady is fabulous.

I had filler once but wasn't convinced.

Microneedling every couple of months.

Also do yoga, take vitamins etc.

The pp who assumes all botox users look like Katie Price
Do we all assume those who don't have their hard dyed, eyebrows plucked look like staunch PTA members? No I didn't think so.
So small minded.

If you can’t see the difference then you don’t have the sort of visual discernment that some of us have. There is clearly a difference. Subtle and natural but able to be seen on a side by side. If I saw the fuller lips I would not know they were filled but i would think she looked nice and had nice lips but as a comparative side by side it’s obvious. The difference between meh and wow is lots of subtle things

Overthinkingperhaps · 04/05/2023 23:52

*hair dyed even.

flashitandgawn · 04/05/2023 23:53

I don't do any of it. Can't afford it. However if I had spare money with nothing much else to spend it on, I would probably do it.

If you look at the lower lip you will see it looks slightly wider in the second picture and more in proportion with the top lip.

I don't do any of those. Hair cut and coloured every 8 weeks and that's it.

I wouldn't have the time to keep up with that kind of beauty regime and I prefer a natural look so I wouldn't want to anyway.

Heh. Visually discerning.

I think the vast majority of people have better things to do with their lives than go around staring and comparing women's lips. Thankfully.

You are right, I don't possess your visual discernment at all.

I agree they are subtle and natural, but my eyes discern nothing but two nice sets of lips.

That may well be a testament to her aesthetician's skills.

Right 😆.

I agree with you that both are nice and natural, but her person is extremely skilled at her work, because this must be what folks mean when they say 'no-one can tell I've had them done'.

That's funny because I'm not particularly young(36) and probably have more money than most. So your judgements are in fact wrong.

You think that "posh" means "having money".

Good for you OP if it makes you happy - that’s what counts. Far too many judgemental people here, but then it is AIBU.
I do think your regimes is higher maintenance, but then mine is too. That said, I’ve never understood the appeal of regular manicures.
I have Botox once a year. I’m debating subtle fillers because I’m fed up with seeing my ‘tired’, slightly saggy reflection and the weight of my aging eyebrows annoy me.
I am also about to have subtle tape extensions as in my 40s and peri has caused my thin hair to go thinner. I’m not going ‘real housewife’ fantastic, just a bit of volume.
I have a very cheap and basic beauty and make up routine.
I also have a PhD, a good job and a happy marriage. No one to ‘impress’ - it’s all for me.

AutumnColours9 · 05/05/2023 00:21

I don't do any of that. Wear minimal make up and tie hair up. I don't have time nor money nor inclination for all that.

Tuatara22 · 05/05/2023 00:21

I get lip filler every few years because it lasts ages on me and I get Botox for my frown lines. I know a few other women that do as well so I really don't think it's as rare as many comments would have you believe. I also don't mention it to many people, so I'm sure there are loads of people you see day to day that have minor cosmetic treatments and you'll be none the wiser.
