To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Botox and fillers
Microblading
Lip blush
Soon to have semi perm eyeliner

Micro needling
Massages

Can't have nails with my job sadly

Eye lash extensions ruined my lashes so I went cold Turkey

If you fake tan every week, what colour are you now!

You exfoliate the tan off before you reapply 🙈😂

I wear makeup most day. I was under the impression most women do this these days. 😂🙈 I guess I have always been like this so it not unusual for me. Botox was only recently added as I'm 36.

You’re 36 and have Botox? That makes me so sad

My money goes on horses. They look stunning. I look like a scrag end. I’m super happy though. They are definitely my ‘self care’. I do protect my skin with an SPF and my horse’s pink noses too. That’s about as much as I do. Oh and shower every day otherwise I’d smell of eau de stable.

Me too! 😀 I come home from the yard looking like a vagrant sometimes! I do shower though...

Veryxonfused · 04/05/2023 22:34

No and I definitely don’t agree that ‘most women’ do it - surely if you just think of 5 random women you know you’ll see that they don’t

However there’s nothing wrong with doing that if it makes you feel good

potatohead1 · 04/05/2023 22:34

BlackPhillipsCheese · 04/05/2023 20:45

It looks so horrible doesn't it. And they always say how natural it looks. It doesn't, it looks common and fake.

Well they obviously go for the over the top look. They just like it. No need to be bitchy about them. I rather chat to them that done sanctimonious person who looks down their nose at other people.

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 22:34

I also whiten my teeth twice a year🙈😂 and get pedicures in the summer. Shoot me

I bet the tiny bit of lip filler isn't even noticeable. Mine certainly isn't. But somehow we look like blow up dolls apparently 😂🙈

Not noticeable? So it looks the same? Why have it then? 🤔

blueshoes · 04/05/2023 22:35

HaggisBurger · 04/05/2023 22:25

Why would I? I was taught never to comment on someone’s appearance unless specifically asked by them.

I was revealing here my inner thoughts - which I’d wager most people have one way or the other.

I’d never mention it because it’s not important. I was just surprised because I naively thought that most relatively affluent western women in their late 40s would have had a pedicure at some stage.

Fair enough not to comment on appearance.

The assumption in your last paragraph does not hold. As is the assumption that a pedicure is a 'treat'. 'Horrified' is the word you originally used. Maybe you did not mean it that strongly.

What's the point of taking it off just to put it on again? I don't understand, never use it.

It is noticeable. Even the tiny amounts. There is something a little off, especially from the side view, not so much from the front. A bit of uncanny valley.

For sure, “horrified” was meant tongue in cheek - but I do appreciate that tone can not be conveyed on a written forum. 😀

FusionChefGeoff · 04/05/2023 22:37

I did a survey last time I was in London passing hundreds of women on tube escalators.

1 in 10 were 'done' as you describe, the rest were au naturel with minimal makeup etc

S72 · 04/05/2023 22:37

I have never had any of those things done. My "beauty routine" is a hair cut twice a year and a daily shower, face cream and deodorant. Shaving depends on the season lol. Very low maintenance.

Each to their own though!

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 22:38

Do you really not know how tan works, whether you use it or not?

It only lasts a few days; then to get a good application next time, you exfoliate to remove last traces & reapply.

It's not complicated.

How does having your eyebrows done save time doing make up

If you’re a natural redhead like me you may well have totally blonde eyebrows and lashes which are invisible. I have to put something on the, or I look ridiculous. Having them tinted makes a massive difference and means I can walk out the door without doing any make up at all, if I feel like it. It also looks so much better then when I do them myself every morning.

WillowtreeHouse · 04/05/2023 22:38

No. I have my hair cut every 8 weeks, I look after my skin, I do my own nails and brows, I keep fit and eat well.

I definitely don't pump chemicals into my face and don't know anyone who does.

Pseudonamed · 04/05/2023 22:38

You cannot always notice someone having a small tweakment just the big ones.

Not all false tan is orange and noticeable, some are fairly natural looking.

You do not need to be insecure to do any improvements to yourself.

You do not need to be jealous if you do not do any of the mentioned things.

Why people cannot let other people just do as they want utterly stuns me.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 22:39

Also you need less make up. It's like a good hair cut. Really frames the face, and you look put-together even without any makeup.

EarthSight · 04/05/2023 22:39

potatohead1 · 04/05/2023 22:29

Always smug people who are determined to believe they can always tell. It’s obvious when it’s obvious. When it’s nit obvious you would never know unless you knew that person before and could see a change.

@potatohead1 It's come from experience. For example, I once knew someone who was getting trout-pout/duck lip. She was only in her 20s. One day she was talking about her fillers at work as it was no secret as every time she has them done. She had that typical raised area just above the lip, you could really tell from her profile, and she had that habit I've noticed some women have which is to flick their tongue along their lips in a certain way.

A group of about 5 women were saying how natural they looked. They must have been blind.

potatohead1 · 04/05/2023 22:40

Beezknees · 04/05/2023 20:59

Fake tan is grim. I used to wear it. It makes your skin grubby. You can't exfoliate with it on because it scrubs the tan off, so the dirt just builds up.

I exfoliate once a week. That’s enough for my skin.

Mindovermatter247 · 04/05/2023 22:40

I don’t do any of these things and never have, I don’t care what people think of my appearance, or anything really, it’s who I am and if they don’t like it, it’s a them problem. I have no interest in making others happy over something that’s nothing to do with them…
a friend of mine, said he doesn’t like women that wear shit loads of make up because he goes to bed with one person, but wakes up with another.
natural beauty is where it’s at…

EvenHeathens · 04/05/2023 22:40

Im in Ireland too and no one I know personally does this.
If you can comfortably afford it all and it makes you feel better, and doesnt start to affect you negatively in any way, then carry on. But it isnt necessary to do all this to care about your appearance

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 04/05/2023 22:41

Why people cannot let other people just do as they want utterly stuns me.

I think this goes both ways. "Most women do these things if you care about your appearance" OP said. My arse.

WheelsUp · 04/05/2023 22:41

Might have missed this but do you work in a job where a high maintenance look is expected Eg flight attendant ?

Most women aren't doing half of those things that you listed because of time and money.
