To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

I’m quite low maintenance- I probably should wear makeup but really can’t be bothered with it so usually just for going out out!

But I do get my eyebrows waxed - I have done for 30 years the bloomin things still come back as thick as ever. And dye my hair - full root colour every 10 weeks with a root rage in between. I haven’t enjoyed going grey at all - I have curly hair so it just looks awful and ages me. Hair cut not so often probably 2/3 times a year.

I wish I could get my nails done but just don’t have the time so filed down neatly at home. I have gained menopause weight so trying to get to the gym but hopefully I will shift the extra stone at some point!

I dont do any if this apart from very occasionally getting my nails and eyebrows done. I have never had fake tan, botox or fillers

Thekirit · 04/05/2023 21:42

I dont do these things.

I drink lots of water
Eat lots of veg

Put aloe vera and face cream on. SPF as high as I can find
Only wear makeup ( lipstick, bit of liner ) if I’m going to a wedding.
No tanning, Botox, anything like that.
File my own nails…no varnish.

Quoronation · 04/05/2023 21:42

@EarringsandLipstick Thank you that's interesting to me! That it made you feel healthier. I think it makes sense if you are around people who tan who are in a gym environment that it wouldn't seem as negative a concept as it does to me. My experience of people who actively like to tan (fake or not) is drinking holidays 😂and older people who used to not know about the damage from the sun and got cancer.

PollyPeptide · 04/05/2023 21:43

Blimey @summerfinn . You've tapped into something here. I never saw so many comments this quickly. 😂

LeefPeeper · 04/05/2023 21:43

I don’t need to inject the same toxin as botulism in to my face to care about my appearance

Quoronation · 04/05/2023 21:43

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 21:41

I don't live in England 😂

Wales? Scotland? NI?

IhateMondaymornings · 04/05/2023 21:43

Who has time for all that? Keeping fit and healthy by exercising is a far more effective way of looking good and will pay dividends when you are older. I had my nails done recently as I fancied it and I was shocked at how long it took and vowed not to bother again as I have far better things to do with my time.

Sierra26 · 04/05/2023 21:43

no way

i get hair cut 4x per year which at £65 in London I think is an extortionate amount to spend.

keep my greys at bay with home dye kits once a month

la roche skin care as tried and tested option so not cheap but not super premium either

any self care beyond that is well used gym membership and running trainers

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 21:43

What a waste of money

Again, it's not a waste of money if a) the OP wants to do it & b) she can afford to.

How about we stop tearing other women down for their choices?

Hocuspocusnonsense · 04/05/2023 21:43

I get my upper lip waxed once a month. That’s it. No fake nails, fake tan, lip fillers/Botox or facials for me.

Shhhquirrel · 04/05/2023 21:44

Ha ha ha, good one OP.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 21:44

@Goatinthegarden

Brilliant post 👏👏👏

Agree, this is me too.

Thesehills · 04/05/2023 21:45

I think this is very high maintenance but if it's your thing and you can afford it all, then great.

I have my hair cut and coloured every ten weeks, am about to have a small amount of botox which will be done twice a year, fake tan very lightly in the summer as I'm unevenly tanned from being outside so much and occasionally paint my nails.

But blimey it takes effort!

Scirocco · 04/05/2023 21:46

YABU. I don't think I know anyone who has that sort of regime.

I'm probably someone you would assume doesn't care about their appearance, as I've done none of those, ever. I don't feel any urge to, either.

That sounds like it takes up a lot of time and money. Not to mention the emotional energy needed. I'd maybe suggest looking for alternative ways to lift your self-esteem instead.

BlackieGrey · 04/05/2023 21:46

OP, the less you care about temporary false beauty the happier you'll become.

Fuck off all of these treatments, invest in some walking boots and get the fuck outside away from tv and the internet.

Most of these beautiful women you see aren't happy themselves and are trying to look like other women who aren't that happy either.

Go out and enjoy the fuck out of life. We're all going to be old and wrinkly in the end, and you're wasting time and money chasing a lie. Go hiking, jump in the sea, go to a theme park, bin your make up and buy some dungarees and birkenstocks. Not giving a shit is far more liberating than being pretend pretty will ever be.

I agree with this. It is OP's money and she can spend it however she likes. No one would be so negative if people spent money on stamp collecting or streaming services when you could just hum or go to a library.

LadyKenya · 04/05/2023 21:46

Yabu, as I do none of those things. I guess I am not like most women. Meh.

Stravaig · 04/05/2023 21:47

@5128gap Thank you 🤗

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 04/05/2023 21:47

OP are American or Canadian?
These seem like very North American standards.
Beautiful in certain areas is definitely the Instagram tanned, lip filler look. So most women around you look similar?

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/05/2023 21:48

Come on, you know that is unusually high maintenance, or if you don’t you need to get out more.

fairywhale · 04/05/2023 21:48

It's not normal to hate your appearance so much you feel the need to do this nor something to aspire to, it's a laughable look that screams a lack of self esteem and confidence.
Invest in therapy instead.

Thursa · 04/05/2023 21:49

I don’t do any of that.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/05/2023 21:49

I don't do any of that, nor know anyone who does
Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't spend my time or money on it

LeFeu · 04/05/2023 21:49

I don’t know anyone who does even half of that but then a lot of my circle are hairy hippies so not really the same aesthetic lol.
