To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

Have we had the "Women who don't do these things are jealous of women who do" posts yet?

Yes of course 😂

It all just makes me sad.

These are all completely superficial things but people class them as taking care of themselves. It makes me wonder whether they're actually taking care of anything or just using them as a sticking plaster.

You'd be better off spending money on yoga, psychotherapy, reading, eating properly. Everything op mentions is just changing your physical appearance to just look the same as a subset of women who all look the same. It's fake and boring.

MattTebbuttsDenimShirt · 04/05/2023 21:21

I consider myself well groomed if I've shaved my legs 🤣

I daresay I would, but that isn't enough to make me do it. My body hair stays where it is 😊

Stravaig · 04/05/2023 21:23

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance.

I'm more of a 'work from the inside out' person.

Eat healthy food, mostly plants. Drink lots of plain water. Get plenty of rest and sleep. Exercise, preferally in the fresh air, ideally something you enjoy. Make time for hobbies and activities you love. Cultivate new skills. Have a good support network, be it friends, family, therapy, time in nature.

Only then look in a mirror.

If you still don't like what you see, review your social/media consumption and friendship circle for an unhealthy preoccupation with appearance. Make adjustments.

You should glow with health and self love when you next accidentally catch a glimpse of yourself! (That's the idea, anyway :)

kkneat · 04/05/2023 21:23

I’ve don’t do any of those things. I have regular hair cuts and wear make up every day, try to dress stylish. I have one friend who does most of those things but not the lip filler. We are late 40’s

MidlifeWhatNow · 04/05/2023 21:23

I had to google Rosanna Davison.

AnneElliott · 04/05/2023 21:23

I don't know anyone who does Botox or lip fillers. Even those I consider high maintenance!!!

Do you think your boys might adopt your idea that women who care about how they look do all that stuff, therefore women who don't do all that stuff don't care about how they look? So if they are in a relationship with someone they might insist they do all that stuff otherwise they are letting themselves go? I've never had my nails done btw and can count on one unmanicured hand the number of times I have had a facial or my eyebrows done.

I very much doubt it. I don't think many men give two thoughts to how much effort a woman should make to achieve her look. They just know whether they think she's attractive or not. It would take a particularly controlling and distinctly odd man to micro manage his wife's self care routines in line with his own mother's. I'm sure PP isn't bringing up her sons to be walking red flags because she spends money on her appearance.

sadsack78 · 04/05/2023 21:23

*just realized you didn't mention whether you had had cosmetic surgery in the past- zero judgement if you have. Was just trying to compare the different attitudes people have towards the whole thing

WimpoleHat · 04/05/2023 21:24

I had to google Rosanna Davison.

So did I - never heard of her!

Okunevo · 04/05/2023 21:24

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 21:01

I don't look false. Not one person noticed my Botox or lip filler. It's very natural, including my tan.

If the people around you do the same then you won't look false or out of place. If someone who does these these things steps into another group of people who don't do these things they then usually do stand out as a bit false looking.

changedmyname23 · 04/05/2023 21:24

I get my nails done every 3 weeks
roots done and a trim every 8 weeks
eyebrows waxed once a month
Botox and Lip filler every 6 months

I would say all this is pretty standard among my friends

TitoMojito · 04/05/2023 21:24

I don't do any of those things and never have lol

Quoronation · 04/05/2023 21:24

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 21:21

But nicely applied tab doesn't make women look worse!

It's fine to choose not to do it yourself but don't judge others who do.

Sure there are crap tans. And I don't myself like the look of Botox / fillers.

But the level of judgment about women's self care on this thread is depressing.

I don't judge people who do it. They have their reasons. I judge the whole concept of fake tan though.

Sleepingbeauty2510 · 04/05/2023 21:24

My idea of self care is a bath and blow drying my hair 😂 painting my nails if I'm lucky. Yours is extreme OP.

Twopoodlesarebetterthanone · 04/05/2023 21:24

"I kinda look like a darker haired Rosanna Davison but not as thin. I don't think she's naturally stunning but with the tan hair nails ect then maybe . So I guess put me in this category. I don't consider myself naturally beautiful."

@summerfinn

Is this the former Miss World Rosanna Davison you are talking about?

BBNoM · 04/05/2023 21:24

Some harsh replies here.

I get Botox every 6 months, had a tiny tiny bit of filler to smooth smokers lines (ugh), never had a facial, maybe once a year I get my nails done, cut hair 2, max three times a year. No hair colour. No brows. No fake tan. No massages.

Don't have time to do all on your list, but if I had the money and time id definitely get my nails done more regularly, massages etc. not bothered with fake tan, I get a colour easily in the summer.

If it makes you feel good, great! But each to their own, we're all different.

sausagepastapot · 04/05/2023 21:24

I don't, and neither do any of the women I know.

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 21:24

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 04/05/2023 21:05

SIL does all that, she and DB are multi-millionaires. DH and I are not, so I don't. Also, I am too lazy to wake up earlier than I absolutely have to, to do anything beyond being clean and tidyish. I also spill things. So I would say high maintenance and probably quite well off.

I'm definitely not a millionaire but as Iv been told by many posters here our family is well of🙈🤷‍♀️

MadEyeMoodysEye · 04/05/2023 21:24

I get my nails done maybe 6 times a year and facial twice. I've never done the rest. I don't think any of my friends have botox, fillers or fake tan.

Im the same as you and consider myself well groomed. Think maybe not now 😂

I think I maybe in the minority that genuinely doesn’t worry about wrinkles. I consider it sign of alot of fun on holidays over the years (and love the sun!)😎

Lovemusic33 · 04/05/2023 21:25

Never had my nails, eyebrows or anything else done other than my hair. So no, a lot of woman don’t indulge in these things. I prefer to spend my money on other things.

confusedlots · 04/05/2023 21:25

I have never in my life done those things, with the exception of getting my nails done a couple of times (once for my wedding), a fake tan maybe 5 or 6 times in my life for a wedding or special occasion, and once I got a facial when we went for a spa day. I don't know anyone who has a routine like you!

SwingandaPrayer · 04/05/2023 21:25

I don't go but they would be a treat for me. I'd love to get facials etc but I just have other priorities. Definitely wouldn't be a chore.

I try to get my eyebrows done, sometimes get eyelash extensions. Never do facials or manicures, fake tan or fillers etc. That's not to say I never would do injectables.... Just can't justify the cost right now.

However, my appearance is important and I'm paying to have Invisalign to improve my teeth so I guess it's kind of the same in some way.

lilsupersparks · 04/05/2023 21:25

I do none of those. I barely make it to the hairdresser twice a year!

muuummypig · 04/05/2023 21:25

I get my nails done once a month to once every other month, and fake tan once a week for various reasons. Each to their own 😊
