To think most women do all of the self care beauty routines I do.

Had this conversation with a friend today that seems to think I'm high maintenance. I get my nails done every month and eyebrows and a facial. I also fake tan once a week. Botox every 6 months and get my lips slightly fillled twice a year ( I have naturally thin lips)

I was under the impression most women do these things if you care about your appearance. AIBU to think this ?

I don't look false. Not one person noticed my Botox or lip filler. It's very natural, including my tan.

So if it's not noticeable, what's the point? I don't get when people say that. Surely you do it because you want to see a difference.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 04/05/2023 21:04

Er, no. There's no point polishing a turd.

I'm sure you look lovely though OP x

megletthesecond · 04/05/2023 21:04

No. The only make up I even own is clear mascara. I do my own nails on office days, have Lumea-d my legs and that's it.
I concentrate on eating well, exercise and teeth. I've just started splashing out on expensive Philip Kingsley conditioner though as my frizzy hair was making me miserable.

Aitchoo · 04/05/2023 21:04

This is very high maintenance; how do you fit it in?
I care about my appearance but I focus on my health and wellness very differently. I like to glow from the inside out.

I do my own brows and just keep the natural shape.

I don't do facials unless you consider using olive oil on my skin like my Nona a facial.

I paint my own nails occasionally, mostly my toes during the summer.

As for Botox I'd have it for medical reasons only.

What do you feel like if you can't get these things?

I was horrified though when a friend (attractive, looks after herself, well paid job) said she’d never had a pedicure. I mean I get some people don’t do them regularly … but never!!!
Then I looked at her heels and saw that she had indeed never been anywhere near a hard skin removing device 😜

You sound like a lovely friend.

You are no friend to this woman. Horrible comment.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 04/05/2023 20:42

I have my hair cut and highlighted regularly, Botox a few times a year, eyebrows and nails I do myself, and I prefer the natural colour of my skin, so no fake tan for me.

Quoting myself to say I don't really give a thought to what other women do, I'm happy with the things I do, that make me feel good about myself. And I don't think I'm high maintenance at all 😂

I quite like having facials, as they are relaxing, but don't have time to have them regularly sadly.

TheInterceptor · 04/05/2023 21:04

Bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste, roll-on deodorant, nail clippers. Occasionally moisturiser when my hands get chapped. That's it for me.

HaggisBurger · 04/05/2023 21:04

summerfinn · 04/05/2023 21:02

Thanks . It's actually helps with my depression amongst other inner things.

I get that. You should do what makes you happy. None of the things you describe are unreasonable 😀😀

blueshoes · 04/05/2023 21:04

I would agree with your friend and consider that routine high maintenance. I do none of those things.

I moisturise, wear make up - that's about it.

Deadringer · 04/05/2023 21:05

I have 3 dds in their 20s and 30s, and aside from getting their nails done once in a blue moon they don't do any of this stuff. Their friends dont appear to do any of it either. Sounds very ott to me.

Heatherjayne1972 · 04/05/2023 21:05

Nope
cut and dye my own hair Do own eyebrows
hate the smell of fake tan -so I stay naturally pale
nails are short and natural - as required for work. No gel nails / nail varnish allowed
not a chance I’d inject myself with anything poisonous

I imagine the op looks way better than me tho

Stravaig · 04/05/2023 21:05

I never do any of those things. It's 9 years since my last professional haircut.

YukoandHiro · 04/05/2023 21:05

Hardly any women do all that. A greater proportion so maybe one (eg nails).

I don't do any of it.

ladyofshertonabbas · 04/05/2023 21:05

I care about my appearance but do none of those things.

ejbaxa · 04/05/2023 21:05

I'd think that you had a keen interest in beauty with that regime.

I also think that the providers of these services want women to think that everyone is doing this kind of thing.

Women who are in the media for any reason probably do this, but I don't think your average woman on the street does. I'm 45 and have never done any of that. I wash my face in baby soap whilst showering. That's it. As far as I'm concerned, I look average for my age.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 04/05/2023 21:05

SIL does all that, she and DB are multi-millionaires. DH and I are not, so I don't. Also, I am too lazy to wake up earlier than I absolutely have to, to do anything beyond being clean and tidyish. I also spill things. So I would say high maintenance and probably quite well off.

Are you sure you that you are her friend?

Your comment sounds really judgy.

iLovee · 04/05/2023 21:06

If I could afford it and have the time I would get:

Weekly spray tan
Gel Nails/toenails
Eyebrows
Eyelashes
Facials / massages
Weekly blowdry
Hair cut and coloured regularly

When i do these things I feel the most confident version of myself.

As it happens most days i look like a troll with a mum-bun and toddler-stained clothes 🤣

Beezknees · 04/05/2023 21:06

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/05/2023 21:03

I always wonder about the hygiene thing. Very long nails suggest that the owner doesn't do much proper cooking, or hands on childcare, or cleaning, so maybe it's a status symbol?! I always think of WAGs having people to do all that for them. I mean, changing a pooey nappy, including applying nappy rash cream etc. Surely half of that would end up down your nails? And how would disposable gloves work with long nails? And how many pairs of tights would you ladder when you put them on? Even eating certain foods. Peeling a plate of garlic prawns?! Just no.

Wrong. I've always had very long nails and I've been a lone parent since DS was a baby so I've done plenty of cleaning and childcare. It's really not hard once you get used to them.

jellybe · 04/05/2023 21:06

I've never had Botox or fillers, or my nails done. I have had facials but it is a rare treat not a regular part of my routine.

Never faked tanned - if I did I would look ridiculous.

Personally this all sounds far to much effort/ money but if it makes you happy and you can afford it crack on. Just don't assume that all women are the same.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 21:04

I love her dearly and am a very good friend to her.

But I think she might want to treat herself to a pedi now and then 😉

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 04/05/2023 21:06

I don’t do any of that. But if cheap anti wrinkle cream is my only beauty routine.

id rather look natural. I’m lucky that I have good skin for my age and am quite baby faced, so people usually think I’m around 5 years younger than I am.

tbh I’ve never even had my nails or eye brows done professionally. I get my hair cut once a year. There’s no way I’d be injecting Botox or lip fillers into my face. I am yet to see a single person who looks good with lip fillers. It’s beyond me that that is the look people are hoping to achieve!!

Cosyblankets · 04/05/2023 21:06

If that's not your definition of high maintenance then what would you say is high maintenence?
I'm 15 years older than you. I have my hair done, wax and nails. I rarely wear make up. No fake tan. No botox. No fillers. No lashes. If you're having botox at 36 what are you going to do in your 50s?

I hope that made you feel superior, even for just a little while.
