To think ^I'm^ not the queue jumper here?

Went to fuel up today and paid for a car wash.

I drove around the to the start of the car wash and there was a car parked there, which I thought was odd as Id been the only person in the shop.

A man got out of his car and then wandered to the shop.

Menopausal rage ensued and I thought I wasn't having him push in. Obviously the convention is you get your ticket first then get in the queue.

So I drove around the front and precision reversed in.

Got out the car and put my code in as he walked back from the shop.

Apparently I'm a fucking bitch for doing this, according to the charmer in the parked audi.

So, Aibu to reclaim my rightful place in the queue?

YABU. He was there first.

Where would you have put your car if you wernt getting fuel ?

DemonicCaveMaggot · 03/05/2023 17:01

Yes, it would have been politer to buy the ticket first, but some people are confused about that. You could have asked him if he was going to use the car wash when he was walking to the shop and then waited for him to come back and fumed silently at him.

On the other hand he called you a fucking bitch over a three minute wait and someone like that just deserves to be annoyed.

Mephisneon · 03/05/2023 17:02

I'm not sure that is the convention. I think they aren't normally busy enough to have a convention....

Also they take so little time it's not really worth the effort to do this.

Feels like you were pisses off and did this because you feel he deliberately slighted you. When how could he know you were in the shop paying?

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/05/2023 17:03

Yabu. Convention here is pull up in queue for car wash then go and get token, otherwise you're just blocking the forecourt unnecessarily.

But hwbu for

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/05/2023 17:04

But hwbu for swearing at you. Neither of you have been great here tbh.

Well I wouldn't have blocked an amenity

I'd have parked around the back and then manoeuvred to the entrance when I had purchased the code for the wash.

Confused

Any car wash I have ever been to the car is placed in the line then the driver goes and gets a ticket/code.

I would have been pissed off if you had done that to me but wouldn’t have sworn at you. I would have just got in my car and waited while thinking it was a strange thing to do🤷🏼‍♀️

JuneShitfield · 03/05/2023 17:08

Calling you a 'fucking bitch' obviously completely unacceptable under any circumstances.

What you did — somewhere between R and U. (MN — we need a 'middle ground' option.

I don't use rollovers any more (they damage the paint) but I used to generally do what you do — ask for a wash token when paying for fuel, then drive to the machine.

But I've been known to do it his way too, especially if I was only getting a wash, and if the fuel station didn't have any non-fuel parking spaces.

Reversing into the car wash to prove your point... a bit OTT. Not a deadly sin though.

(I'm surprised you were able to reverse in to the machine — most of the rollover car washes I've seen have metal barrier plates sticking up at the front to stop people doing this.)

Curtains70 · 03/05/2023 17:09

I have to be honest I don't know what the convention for this is. I used the drive in car wash for the first time the other day and parked by it. I assumed I'd be able to tap my card and pay but then realised I needed a ticket so I left my car there , got the ticket and went back. Is that wrong?

There wasn't really anywhere else to park up though really.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 03/05/2023 17:10

I can see it from his perspective (minus the aggression... typical twat that). He probably thought he was the only person, like you did, so I can see why he was pissed off.

Ramunea · 03/05/2023 17:10

I hate when people bring up being menopausal as a way of justifying their actions

Fatkittythinkitty · 03/05/2023 17:13

You both need to chill the fuck out really. There was no need for your rage as there really isn't a convention for this. He was way out of line verbally abusing you too.

You'll both end up giving yourselves a stroke if you get this angry over little stuff

PuppyMonkey · 03/05/2023 17:15

Coincidentally, I was at the car wash the other day. There’s a little pull in bit where you can pull in and go into the shop, so I did that and went and got my ticket - feeling quite smug as I could see the car wash was free.

Just as I was getting back into my car, another guy drove past me into the car wash. I was all ready to have a massive go at him as I thought he might park up at the entrance to car wash and then go and get his ticket. CF.

But it turned out he already had his code and he simply got there before me. So fair enough.

And that is the end of my story.Grin

babytum · 03/05/2023 17:20

I’m with you OP, it’s the equivalent of putting your jacket on a table in a busy cafe and then going to queue for your food. So bloody annoying.
Car wash etiquette is buy your ticket then get into the line, not prevent those ready and able for the wash process so you can hold up everyone trying to get on with their day.
Happened to me the other day only there wasn’t place to precision reverse in, another gobshite in an Audi funny enough…

BallandBoe · 03/05/2023 17:20

You both sound childish.

Did he ask you why you'd 'pushed in?'

JenniferBarkley · 03/05/2023 17:22

Perhaps it depends on the layout of the forecourt. Ours has plenty of space, so the etiquette is definitely to get the ticket and then join the queue.

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 03/05/2023 17:42

You were really out of order but I kind of admire your blatant cheeky fuckery and complete bolshiness. I wouldn’t have if I were him though to be fair, I’d have been fuming but the only sign would have been befuddled laughter because I’m too typically British.

Foxgate · 03/05/2023 17:45

No I do the same- park up away from the queue and then go and join it after I’ve got the code. Wouldn’t have gone to lengths you did, but agree that’s annoying

starfishmummy · 03/05/2023 18:38

Where I go you have a choice and can either pay in the shop and get a code or just drive up and pay by card at the little machine thing instead. So no need for any etiquette there.

TheSnowyOwl · 03/05/2023 18:40

Car washes here are at garages with space to park that doesn’t block anyone so assuming the same for you, then yanbu. He was unnecessarily unpleasant over a short wait.

DidyouNO · 03/05/2023 19:06

I really don't understand why you got so angry and rude in the first place. It's completely normal to park then pay. He may only be there for the at wash. So he parked his car in the queue, went to get his ticket and you pushed in front. Really rude, obnoxious behaviour from yourself there op.

polkadotdalmation · 03/05/2023 19:21

I've always bought the ticket first. Usually with petrol not always and then gone to the wash. It never had a queue anyway

Ha ha.. made me chuckle, bet his face was a picture

Shade17 · 03/05/2023 19:39

You’re both BU for using an automatic car wash. Bloody awful things!
