To think if you don't like my dogs barking at you get the hell off my drive

I'll start this by saying I am tired and miserable so am in no mood to be reasonable today AT ALL.

I have many dogs. Large dogs. There are dog flaps so they can run in and out as they wish onto the property. I am rural and one of the purposes of the dogs is to alert me to people around, so I aren't bothered by them barking if someone comes to the gate.

The gateway to my drive is set back about 15ft so that I can park the car without having to open the gates and drive in. Its clearly my driveway and separate from the road.

There is this one cyclist who every single time after cycling up the hill stops and pulls into the drive and has a rest. Now he could stop on the other side of the road where there is a public track, or he could cycle for like another 30ft and stop at the entrance to the forest but no he chills in the drive. Every. Single. Time.

The dogs bark at him. He shouts at them to be quite. They obviously ignore him. I used to shout them back in but the last few weeks I haven't bothered because well I'm grumpy.

Today my mum has arrived to visit and the cyclist is yet again in the drive. He's had a bit of a go at her. She's come in mithering at me so I've gone out and told him very rudely that if he doesn't like them barking at him to stop standing on the fucking drive. It got into a bit of a heated discussion before I stormed off. He's going to report me apparently as they are intimidating and its illegal to have a camera and no signs and blah blah blah.

So whilst I might BU to have gone out and created more drama instead of ignoring him AIBU to think if you don't want to be barked at get the fuck off my land?

Mr Peacock is a law to himself. He was one of a few which were supposed to be at the place across the fields but for whatever reason he thought that didn't appeal to him and instead he wanders round a few of us. He'll stay for a while causing utter chaos because he's an angry fucker and than wander off before returning just when you think he's permagone to cause more chaos . I used to try and chase him off but that ended badly for me almost as much as the Swan Incident of 2008 <<shudders>> and so now I leave him to do what he wants and we just WhatsApp the Peacock group to update on where he is.

@Lozois99 @SmallFerret Send me an address and I'll get him shipped straight over. There is a no returns policy though so once he's elsewhere you are stuck with him.

OP, I'm handling the contractual side, & have drawn up an agreement detailing all the ... (ahem) necessary financial disbursements for Lozois to manage. Send me your signed release form (bird in my name for obvious, erm, legal reasons) but DO NOT SHIP ME A PEACOCK.

I will notify you when it's time to release to @Lozois99's address.
Lozois, you are being tardy with the T&C's, can't think why, it's just an old boilerplate contract, totally legit, & you won't get a UK Timeshare Peacock eslewhere now I've sewn up the Bankapura angle.

No excuses for this cyclist’s behaviour which was awful but having dogs going mental while you are walking past is a really unpleasant part of countryside walks. Worse when you can already hear them but can’t see if they are properly behind gates.

For the 55th time, for those at the back:

IT'S. THEIR. JOB.

Nanaof1 · 02/05/2023 13:25

Now, now! You cannot give a hint and a <<shudder>> about the "Swan incident of 2008" without TELLING us about the "Swan incident of 2008".

We need deets!

Well said Nana. Also - DIAGRAM!!!!

And apologises for only showing half the dog squad I could only upload 5 photos. The remaining fools are attached

Send the cat in - it looks pretty damn fierce. Should shred his lycra in an instant.

ButterCrackers · 01/05/2023 10:43

Call the police and report his agression to your mum. Tell the police that he knowingly trespasses and shouts at your mum and shouts because your dogs bark at him standing on your property. See what the police can do about his threatening antisocial behaviour.

Yeah I would do this.

Stupid stupid man.

Handsome dogs!

Gwenhwyfar · 01/05/2023 11:19

YABU. What about the postman or anyone else whose job it is to be on your drive?

What a stupid response. How has a postal worker (doing their job) got anything to do with a cyclist trespassing and being verbally abusive? Hmm

MenoRageisReal · 02/05/2023 14:44

Rhondaa · 01/05/2023 11:26

I can't see what his problem is, if the dogs are securely behind the gate and can't get out them so what.

As a pp said though what happens when the postman or workmen come to the house? Non stop uncontrolled barking is intimidating. Have you tried training them?

Have you ever met a GSD? Grin good luck with training the warning bark out of them - it's their DNA

MenoRageisReal · 02/05/2023 14:48

Rhondaa · 01/05/2023 11:42

'well not everyone wants a dog that looks 'cute'. Some people want a dog that looks majestic/beautiful, is super intelligent/super loyal and full of character.'

Hmm. I'm all for majestic and beautiful but every alsation I've seen tends to be straining at the lead, or worse running around out of control off the lead whilst barking in a really intimidating way. I've never seen any display intelligence like say with a gundog.

You're just being ridiculous now.

The police use GSD because they are amazingly bright, love to work and incredibly loyal. I've met some working GSD that are far smarter than the criminals they catch.

MenoRageisReal · 02/05/2023 14:54

You set the tone for how you want the conversation to go.
Yeah.
OP wanted the fucker to fuck off. He fucked off. Job fucking done.

@SmallFerret GrinGrinGrin I agree. Swearing definitely has its place when dealing with absolute wankers.

Ilovecrispytofu · 02/05/2023 15:10

Doesn’t mean it’s pleasant. Might make owners feel safer to have big intimidating dogs snarling at passers by but not nice to be on the receiving end of it.

MenoRageisReal · 02/05/2023 15:21

@Thinkingpod in my extensive survey, posters who quote the entire original OP (which we've all read already) only to reply with one goady ridiculous line score 100% in the wanker category too.

User6589310 · 02/05/2023 08:06

its illegal to have a camera and no signs and blah blah blah.

This is true@Qantaqa

You are not supposed to have CCTV pointing onto the highway as it's contravening data protection UNLESS you have a sign saying there is a camera. And you'd need a reason why the camera was there on a domestic property pointing to the road.

Who says the camera is on the "highway"? Op says it's her private property. He's on HER land !

ididntknowthat11 · 02/05/2023 15:42

@Qantaqa your life sounds so interesting!

Are you a farmer? Do you work outside the home at all or is it a working farm?

And you live with your parents and your kids? I love the sound of it (only in a very big house though Grin)

How long has the house/farm been in your family?

FictionalCharacter · 02/05/2023 17:08

Once again, he wasn't passing by. He stops in her driveway for a rest, and sometimes leans against her car. That's not at all the same thing as just passing by.
The dogs know that this person is loitering in their owner's territory.

Crazydonkeylady · 02/05/2023 17:20

He’s trespassing on your land so let him report away! He’s probably just embarrassed to realise you can see him adjusting his bollocks in his shiny shorts when he stops on your property! Hopefully it’ll put him off stopping there again. What an idiot!

RB68 · 02/05/2023 17:27

Security in the countryside is important - most people round here keep dogs to deter burglars and opportunist thieves. Horse boxes, farm equipment, Building maintenance equipment cars (Landies) are all vulnerable and dogs set off warnings and cameras. Most are well contained on the land and are trained to invisible borders if not actually fenced in. NO wild snarling dogs not pleasant mostly they are barking signals rather than attack, but its also not pleasant being held and tied up and threatened with hot irons to reveal info on safes/car keys/cash etc which is what the trend was round here a few years ago before they caught that gang.

lljkk · 02/05/2023 17:54

Pffffftt... I live in on edge of a rural area.
Lots of people at toddler group stating that they never lock their doors, cars, nothing. Nothing gets locked.
Oil tanks right next to road unprotected.
Random chances whether people lock their bicycles up at the shops.
Cars left not just unlocked but with zero occupants and Engine Running at corner shop.
All routine

Sniffy all points bulletin on Next Door if an unusual person with unexpected accent is in the area. Chatter on Next Door about dog thefts: then police confirm there haven't been any dog thefts in this area since 1906 a long time ago.

That's how seriously countryside folk here take "security", or truly need to.

Matildalamp · 02/05/2023 17:56

I’m for training the peacock and swans!

Fairfatandforty · 02/05/2023 18:02

I like you. I like your table-dog. I may come and live with you. Not in a stalky way. I just think we'd get alone fine!!

happymand · 02/05/2023 18:18

Your dogs are stunning!! I LOVE German Sheps and have a white one who is soft and doesn't bark much outside at all... if he did then it would alert me that something is wrong or someone is around that shouldn't be so your hounds are doing their job (very protective nature). We live in a rural area and have signs up saying our driveway is private land and not to go up the driveway and you'd be shocked at how many people ignore the signs! I've been verbally abused by several walkers (nearly put something else then) - people are so aggressive now and it's unacceptable.

We’re the same rural to and have giant breed dogs and a fair few too and have folks stopping and staring and I can hear fuck sakes she’s got horses in there, or worse the adults shouting to make them bark which pisses me off to no ends, still doesn’t stop the gits from dumping their rubbish either.

training is never ending as well.

cyclist is a twat through and through. Has he been back at all.

Huh??

do explain

Trishthedish · 02/05/2023 19:13

My dogs bark too. That’s why we have them.

The cyclist is a wankpuffin. Ignore him and tell your dogs how clever they are.
