To think if you don't like my dogs barking at you get the hell off my drive

Qantaqa · 01/05/2023 09:34

I'll start this by saying I am tired and miserable so am in no mood to be reasonable today AT ALL.

I have many dogs. Large dogs. There are dog flaps so they can run in and out as they wish onto the property. I am rural and one of the purposes of the dogs is to alert me to people around, so I aren't bothered by them barking if someone comes to the gate.

The gateway to my drive is set back about 15ft so that I can park the car without having to open the gates and drive in. Its clearly my driveway and separate from the road.

There is this one cyclist who every single time after cycling up the hill stops and pulls into the drive and has a rest. Now he could stop on the other side of the road where there is a public track, or he could cycle for like another 30ft and stop at the entrance to the forest but no he chills in the drive. Every. Single. Time.

The dogs bark at him. He shouts at them to be quite. They obviously ignore him. I used to shout them back in but the last few weeks I haven't bothered because well I'm grumpy.

Today my mum has arrived to visit and the cyclist is yet again in the drive. He's had a bit of a go at her. She's come in mithering at me so I've gone out and told him very rudely that if he doesn't like them barking at him to stop standing on the fucking drive. It got into a bit of a heated discussion before I stormed off. He's going to report me apparently as they are intimidating and its illegal to have a camera and no signs and blah blah blah.

So whilst I might BU to have gone out and created more drama instead of ignoring him AIBU to think if you don't want to be barked at get the fuck off my land?

Love this thread with the unanimous yanbu, use of the word mithering and now a peacock timeshare.

DustyLee123 · 02/05/2023 11:24

He is a dick. He needs to get off private property.

Magicmama92 · 02/05/2023 11:31

What a weirdo as if you just chill on somoes drive anyway.
Next time say youl call the police as he's loitering on your property. Stupid man. Plus the dogs are barking because he's being a knob and they are protective. I'd be fuming tell him to stop talking to your dogs and fuck off lol

BruceAndNosh · 02/05/2023 11:33

I can see why he gets nervous.. that tongue could give you a right licking!😁

Shade17 · 02/05/2023 11:41

He’s probably intelligent enough to know that would be a nonsense threat anyway.

IttyBittyTittyCommittee · 02/05/2023 11:44

@1stTimeBoyMumx

Totally agree with you… I have only ever had German Shepherds, they are the absolute only dog for me! 🙌

IttyBittyTittyCommittee · 02/05/2023 11:47

@SorePaw

She gets plenty of smooching, don’t worry … she woke me up at 2am nudging me over & getting into bed (head on pillow, body wriggled under duvet) and there we slept til the 4-45am alarm, when she grumbled and huffed and puffed about getting up! 😮

Magicmama92 · 02/05/2023 11:55

Intelligent 😂 the guy trespassing and yelling at the homeowners and dogs?
I wouldn't describe him at intelligent but ok.
The point is if he's going to make stupid threats I would make them back especially since he's actually the one in the wrong.

iklboo · 02/05/2023 11:58

I doubt he'd be shouting & swearing at a bloke getting out of a car, like he did with your mum. Cocksplinter.

Qantaqa · 02/05/2023 11:59

@Pipsquiggle lol. Its definitely not for everyone!

We used to breed but not anymore. I mean I don't think its massive (its 5 bed) but I grew up here so apart from a brief stint in my early 20s when I lived in town its all I've ever known. The dogs have the freedom to roam all over it though apart from 1 dog free room for visitors who don't like dogs. Yes we have lots of land. The dogs are fully trained (apart from pupdog and the dog of doom (the one on the table). Pupdog is work in progress and DoD is just a fucking nightmare. Loads and loads of time to be honest and we are always reinforcing the training with them. We go for a 90 min walk in the morning when we go down the fields and again in the evening and they have the freedom of about an acre to be around all the time then we have various training / one on one time with them. We've always had loads of dogs so I can't say I've ever known any differently and they are all varying ages so its not like we've had lots of young / untrained ones at the same time which would be a whole different ball game. Its not just me that does stuff with them either - there is my dad and the DCs too. I'm not sure I'll replace them as they go though now so the numbers will gradually decrease and what happens after that will partly depend on if the DCs decide to stay here or move away like my brothers.

You are not being unreasonable I wouldnt be happy about it either!!

Heartsnrainbows · 01/05/2023 10:55

You don't need a sign to record your OWN property. Tell him he is trespassing and to get bent get off your property.

You do however need one if he's capturing anyone on public property, and OP likely is.

To be safe, always put up a 'warning, cctv' type sign if you have cameras.

I'd also put up some 'private property' signs on the gate in front of your drive, indicating that the whole area is actually private property.

Mr Peacock is a law to himself. He was one of a few which were supposed to be at the place across the fields but for whatever reason he thought that didn't appeal to him and instead he wanders round a few of us. He'll stay for a while causing utter chaos because he's an angry fucker and than wander off before returning just when you think he's permagone to cause more chaos . I used to try and chase him off but that ended badly for me almost as much as the Swan Incident of 2008 <<shudders>> and so now I leave him to do what he wants and we just WhatsApp the Peacock group to update on where he is.

@Lozois99 @SmallFerret Send me an address and I'll get him shipped straight over. There is a no returns policy though so once he's elsewhere you are stuck with him.

Just realised OP said no birds though he's more like a dinosaur really.

My mistake, I apologize🙏
bring out the T-Rex 🦖

theemmadilemma · 02/05/2023 12:33

Nope, I'd have done the same. We are reasonably rural, and the dogs are there for security.

It's also why dog alert barks (within reason) are excluded when investigating noise complaints - it's their job and expected and desired.

Fucking twat. Ger off ma property.

StripeK · 02/05/2023 12:51

Oh, what good doggos you have! I'm very much a cat person but am completely taken with these photos.

I'd also like in on the Peacock WhatsApp group so I can vicariously enjoy the ridiculousness of it

Qantaqa · 01/05/2023 10:12

No he's actually on the drive. Not even on the edge but like halfway in the unfenced zone. There is zero way he thinks its public. He does it even if the car is there. He just perchs himself against the car for his drink stop.

Tbh I don't (or didn't) particularly mind him. Its a bit annoying but its a bugger of a hill and whilst I don't understand why he can't cycle a bit further I just eyeroll.

Mum was quite shaken up but it doesn't take much. She got out the car and he started swearing at her and telling her she was breaking the law as dogs can't be intimidating and she better not open the gate because if they touch him he'll sue and just general idiocy. Then she came in all flustered and started on me. So I stomped out and here we are. Shrug.

Well, now I can guess why he stops right on your drive every day. He is hoping to find a reason to sue. If he leans against your car, tell him to get the feck off it.

Stupid entitled little dud. I wish you had sprinklers set up that could get turned on right when he is there....just a hint.

Nanaof1 · 02/05/2023 13:01

ButterCrackers · 01/05/2023 10:43

Call the police and report his agression to your mum. Tell the police that he knowingly trespasses and shouts at your mum and shouts because your dogs bark at him standing on your property. See what the police can do about his threatening antisocial behaviour.

Good idea. Harassing someone while they are trying to live in their home should be against the law. Perhaps the OP could wash her car, from her side of the gate when he shows up? Or would that get her into trouble, even if it's on her property?

Nanaof1 · 02/05/2023 13:09

Qantaqa · 01/05/2023 16:10

I mean you are all just suggesting other birds. I'd rather have an army of cyclists squatting in the drive actually throwing things at visitors than have a flock of birds guarding it to keep them away.....

If you had a remote control opener for your car with an attached alarm, you could set it off next time he leans against it and come running out accusing him of trying to break into your car/steal your car. Ours goes off with the touch of a button.
Just random thoughts flying around the vast space between my ears. 🚘🔊

Ilovecrispytofu · 02/05/2023 13:13

No excuses for this cyclist’s behaviour which was awful but having dogs going mental while you are walking past is a really unpleasant part of countryside walks. Worse when you can already hear them but can’t see if they are properly behind gates.

I think Mr Peacock needs to be reassigned to gate duties...

I think you're both unreasonable. He shouldn't be stopping on your land and I cannot fathom why someone would have between five and ten dogs. Seems unnecessary.

Unnecessary...like a post trying to tell people how many dogs they should have because they are the dog limit police? 🐶🐕🐩🚴

Now, now! You cannot give a hint and a <<shudder>> about the "Swan incident of 2008" without TELLING us about the "Swan incident of 2008".

We need deets!

Unnecessary?! 😂😂😂

What's the right number? Do tell. I have 3 rescues and am contemplating a 4th - am I being ridiculous?

SmallFerret · 02/05/2023 13:50

we just WhatsApp the Peacock group

Peacock Timeshare just keeps getting better & better.
Your Rep told me they were intelligent birds, but he didn't mention they have their own whastapp group.

Although I understand they've also started their own TV channel, who knew?!
