To think if you don't like my dogs barking at you get the hell off my drive

I'll start this by saying I am tired and miserable so am in no mood to be reasonable today AT ALL.

I have many dogs. Large dogs. There are dog flaps so they can run in and out as they wish onto the property. I am rural and one of the purposes of the dogs is to alert me to people around, so I aren't bothered by them barking if someone comes to the gate.

The gateway to my drive is set back about 15ft so that I can park the car without having to open the gates and drive in. Its clearly my driveway and separate from the road.

There is this one cyclist who every single time after cycling up the hill stops and pulls into the drive and has a rest. Now he could stop on the other side of the road where there is a public track, or he could cycle for like another 30ft and stop at the entrance to the forest but no he chills in the drive. Every. Single. Time.

The dogs bark at him. He shouts at them to be quite. They obviously ignore him. I used to shout them back in but the last few weeks I haven't bothered because well I'm grumpy.

Today my mum has arrived to visit and the cyclist is yet again in the drive. He's had a bit of a go at her. She's come in mithering at me so I've gone out and told him very rudely that if he doesn't like them barking at him to stop standing on the fucking drive. It got into a bit of a heated discussion before I stormed off. He's going to report me apparently as they are intimidating and its illegal to have a camera and no signs and blah blah blah.

So whilst I might BU to have gone out and created more drama instead of ignoring him AIBU to think if you don't want to be barked at get the fuck off my land?

I mean you are all just suggesting other birds. I'd rather have an army of cyclists squatting in the drive actually throwing things at visitors than have a flock of birds guarding it to keep them away.....

We're just considered the nature of your rural area with other animals. 😀

Your idea of armed guards dressed as MAMILS is superior as it would be clever and attract other misbehaving MAMILS who can then be pelted with sports drinks, water bottles, and whatever else they carry with them. 😂

I've had another idea. Buy this-

Folat 22428 Stuffable Dummy... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0046UH3VO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Stuff it, dress it in Lycra and a cycle helmet.
Throw fake blood over it. Perhaps dismember it a bit.
Put it on your driveway. Possibly with a sign "This is what happens to people who yell at my mother."

One of my non-intimidating spaniels plotting with a magpie. Possibly noisier than a crow?

This would drive me CRAZY. I would have to go out and tell him each and every time. The pure entitlement of pulling onto someone's property to have a rest when he has multiple other options.

I'd encourage him to call the police. You're not breaking any laws by having dogs on your own land. Twat.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/05/2023 19:24

@Qantaqa - the important question - the most important question in my mind - is do you get drowned in dogs wanting cuddles whenever you sit down? Because they are a lovely looking bunch of dogs, and I’d happily be at the bottom of a pile of them!

FeltedDogs · 01/05/2023 19:26

Put drawing pins on the non dog side of your drive. With a sign.

LakieLady · 01/05/2023 19:44

Gorgeous dogs, OP. I grew up with a lovely GSD and still have a huge soft spot for the breed 50 years on.

I like the sound of motion activated sprinklers though. Especially if you post the security footage of the entitled MIL getting an unexpected shower on here.

ladymalfoy45 · 01/05/2023 19:50

@Pinkywoo OR OR Cassowary

Lovely. I adore spaniels; I'm now on my third, plus her sprocker son who she smuggled in as an ambryo.

sueelleker · 01/05/2023 20:10

That should say embryo.

I bloody love the idea of an otter army! 😍😍😍 Meanwhile, I have written on here before about Ivydog’s nemesis the crow, who takes great delight in throwing sticks into the verandah to get Ivy’s attention, gargles at her from the tree and pretty much pisses itself laughing at her when she goes off her brain with frustration at this feathery fiendish space invader that she can’t get to. Crows are intelligent but evil buggers. (Entertaining and I have to respect them!)

Indeed - I was once muchly entertained watching a young crow taunt my dog, swooping down and daring her to try and catch it, then landing just a tantalising distance away, only to spring into the air when the dog got near. Honestly those birds could hire themselves out as dog walkers!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/05/2023 21:15

I was aimlessly remembering CF Parking Space Trespasser Ford Ranger driver who sneaked into that OPs land when she'd opened one of a set of gates (for moving animals) and whinged there was no where to park. On being told he's have to shift in 30 minutes then the gates would shut , he was there FOUR DAYS

There was a DB(brother) a few Carvery Meals (and discussions about yorkshire pudding recipes ) and some toys set up as guards .
I thought this was last year but it was August 2021 Shock

@Qantaqa
As an FYI/ PIA ( for your info/public info announcement) if he parks his bike and says he'll be 10 minutes either tell him No move it NOW or reverse over the bastard thing
Save yerself the angst .

dont do this OP, it would be assault and then you're firmly in the wrong!
ditto throwing excrement.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 01/05/2023 21:41

Reading the headline I was minded to think it was not reasonable (I have a big dog, am working on her not barking when people walk past on the road outside our gate, but I live in a town). He is a total knob, has no right to be where he is, but as others have said, as a male cyclist he obviously owns the world and should be able to do whatever he wants. I hope he reports it - and gets laughed at.

magicstar1 · 01/05/2023 21:43

Oh you live in German Shepherd heaven! I only have one, but would love a whole pack. They’re beautiful.

Yapping vile dogs are not fun. Train the muts.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/05/2023 22:54

Yapping vile dogs are not fun. Train the muts.

They're not 'yapping' for fun. They're barking because they've detected a potential intruder on the OPs rural property, and they're behaving as she wants them to, as an alarm and deterrent.
