To wish it was seen as the most beautiful thing ever to be super overweight

Okay I know I am being because health but I am sat here really bloody hungry because I need to lose weight and I've had my morning 300 cals and it's just miserable. Heroin chic thin was in and I feel like if a BMI of 26/27/28 was seen as the pinnacle of beauty life would be lovely and I could eat what I wanted. Eating delicious food is such a source of joy and life would just be so much better if it was without guilt.

Don't worry, I know this isn't sensible realistically (even though we're potentially going that way) just dreaming because I really really want something delicious and filling for my lunch and I can't have it.

Is skinny in at the moment? I thought it was the opposite. You can still eat filling food and reduce your calorie intake. Your BMI is 25, nothing to be concerned about! You could easily lose a few lbs without much effort, not that you need to. My BMI is 27, down from 30. Looking to lose a few lbs but in no rush and don't feel particularly fat

HappyHourStartsNow · 30/04/2023 13:01

@Botw1 - I was responding to you stating that the BMI is “already slim”. It isn’t slim. You also said that the weight loss required to go to healthy weight would not even be noticeable. That’s not true either.

FatGirlSwim · 30/04/2023 13:01

YABU to call a bmi of 26/27/28 ‘super overweight’

JaneJeffer · 30/04/2023 13:03

Go and eat a bun

PortiasBiscuit · 30/04/2023 13:03

Don’t matter how beautiful it was, wouldn’t stop it being unhealthy!

@Boomboom22

The op clearly has issues

I abswould think of someone with that bmi as slim

I most definitely would not look slim at a BMI of 25. Probably depends on how people carry weight too

My BMI is 25.5. Usually I'm at about 22 and still feel miserable but gained weight due to a considerably shit year causing insane stress. For me it's 100% about looks. I know it shouldn't be, but growing up with Cosmopolitan and 'fat' Bridget Jones will do that to you.

BMI of 25 is hardly "super overweight".
I'm not suggesting you don't diet or get more exercise to get back to your normal weight, but have you considered treatment for body dysmorphic disorder?

Botw1 · 30/04/2023 13:05

@HappyHourStartsNow

I disagree.

Half a stone isn't noticeable.

And I won't agree that a bmi of 25.5 isn't slim. It is imo.

Have you tried this recipe book? You should be able to eat tasty filling meals and still lose weight. Otherwise you won’t be able to keep it up.

The recipes I’ve tried are delicious, filling and quick and easy.

I’m not trying to lose weight but still use this recipe book regularly as the recipes are so good.

Kyse · 30/04/2023 13:09

@Botw1 that's a daft image though
I look nothing like the obese person or the one above it

SecretsIWouldNeverTell · 30/04/2023 13:09
Confused
Jourdain11 · 30/04/2023 13:10

I agree on the BMI being unreliable point. My BMI is quite a bit outside the healthy range but I'd say I look fairly "normal".

But I'd say size 6-10 clothes is "slim" unless the person is very tall, and someone with a BMI of 25 is unlikely to be a size 10! I don't think it's likely that anyone with that BMI would be slim, unless they were tall and particularly muscular.

Which is fine. There's no need to be "slim".

shivawn · 30/04/2023 13:10

Moveoverdarlin · 30/04/2023 12:44

You’re BMI is usually 22? What are you on about then? You mean you need to lose about 6 pounds to be considered slim?

Depends on her height but it won't be 6lbs, 1.5 stone is probably more accurate.

Botw1 · 30/04/2023 13:11

@shivawn

To go from 25.5 to 25? Or 24?

I doubt it.

I agree. The middle girl (3rd one) is not overweight. She looks fine. So does the 2nd one and the 4th one. 2nd and 3rd look best IMHO.

Botw1 · 30/04/2023 13:12

@Kyse

Neither do I

Which shows how subjective slim is

And how ridiculous basing health on what people look like is

AllOfThemWitches · 30/04/2023 13:12

Does anyone else cringe a bit at 'deliciously food.'

AllOfThemWitches · 30/04/2023 13:12

Tut. Delicious*

Exactly.

Much of Africa. “You’ve put on weight!” is a compliment! If you were slim.

I worked with someone from Ghana. I went on holiday for a few weeks, came back and the first thing she said to me was “wow, you’ve put on so much weight!” In front of the entire office. She meant it as a compliment, I was mortified 😳

updin · 30/04/2023 13:14

Ah I know OP, I'm technically not overweight but am carrying more than suits me...or is fashionable I guess, and I bloody love food but I also really care how I look, it's such a miserable battle.

Generally healthier than extremely overweight people I would think.

Not necessarily. Depends on your fat eg people with subcutaneous fat look bigger but generally are a million times healthier than those with visceral fat even with bmi differences.

ShannonMcFarland · 30/04/2023 13:18

Being overweight is "fashionable" insofar as it's the norm nowadays. Most people in this country are fat, nobody will bat an eyelid at you.
