just thought this might be an interesting thread!

what is your sensory nightmare?! either NT, ND, ASD, doesn't matter anyone can comment :)

mine is grease- it gives me absolute shudders and I can't eat anything greasy with my hands. I use a spoon or gloves for crisps and the idea of eating a McDonalds/any takeaway with my hands makes me feel physically sick. I can't tolerate skincare products that feel remotely greasy either.

the other thing is the feeling of being in my bed and not having any socks on and my feet sweating on the covers. again, can't explain how sick this makes me feel but it is absolutely awful!

what's your sensory nightmare? :)

Dried toothpaste on my hands if I miss a bit after washing my hands.

Hellocatshome · 29/04/2023 21:26

Wet tissue, I would actually rather gouge my eyes out than touch it.

qbnespw · 29/04/2023 21:27

The same noise, or phrase repeated again and again. It gives me the rage so quickly.

Fedupsequin · 29/04/2023 21:28

Cotton wool. Even the thought makes my teeth hurt!

AgentProvocateur · 29/04/2023 21:30

That dense polystyrene that TVs etc are packed in. When you ease it out the box… 🤮

feeona123 · 29/04/2023 21:31

wet tissue for me too and also other people’s hair!

tulippa · 29/04/2023 21:33

Wooden cutlery (I carry my own reusable plastic cutlery set when out and about just in case), wooden lolly sticks, wooden chopping boards, paper straws, sugar paper.

WhisperingAutistic · 29/04/2023 21:35

I'm ND and mine are mainly noise related.
Next doors lawnmower can have me in tears on a bad day.

Coffeeandbourbons · 29/04/2023 21:35

Anything with a repetitive hole pattern, luck honeycomb. I opened the food waste bin a few days ago and for some reason a salad leaf had started decomposing in this pattern, I was rooted to the spot staring at it in horror for a few minutes.

Also knitwear when I forget to put conditioner in the machine and it comes out ‘crackly’

Ahhhh definitely all of these!

Also certain mugs and dinnerware that's almost clay-like, feels rough and grainy on your mouth

Wishona · 29/04/2023 21:38

The droney noise of cricket on the radio
Car air con noise above the lowest settings
The noise when windows are down and the road is noisy

In fact there’s a lot about cars I don’t like, I hate the smell of petrol

The smell of wine gums as it reminds me of car journeys and being travel sick

UnctuousUnicorns · 29/04/2023 21:39

Buttons. Horrible, slimy wee things. 🤢
The four letter for that stuff that comes out of noses; I detest that word. 🤢
Mushy cereal, unless it's meant to be soft, like porridge. I use minimal milk and eat it before it goes soft.
Just the look of oil on skin makes me feel ill.

I'm sure there are more, but that'll do for now.

starlightmagic · 29/04/2023 21:40

Micro fibre cloths 🤢

I have SO many triggers 😂 my worst is probably a baking one. You know when you have to rub butter? The feeling makes my fingers itch and even thinking about it makes me squirm.

oh my god that is the worst ever, from a grease POV I'm wrenching at the idea

Not being able to moisturise my hands immediately after washing and drying them. Dry skin makes me feel really uncomfortable (not physically uncomfortable, emotionally uncomfortable)

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 29/04/2023 21:44

Definitely Polystyrene packing foam. The sound, the feel. Shudder!

Evenstar · 29/04/2023 21:45

Sandpaper and pumice stones, sand stuck to my legs even thinking about them makes me shudder and all my hairs stand on end

Gtsr443 · 29/04/2023 21:45

Tissue in my mouth. Seeing people blot their lipstick with a tissue makes me heave.

Me too! I can’t bear it - I can’t just wait 10 minutes, I have to moisturise now.

This for me also. Noise wise I cannot stand the sound of anyone chewing or swallowing either.

DyslexicPoster · 29/04/2023 21:50

Play doh. Urgh. All my ND kids love blue tac. Yuck!

Crumbs or grit on the wooden floor in bear feet.

UnctuousUnicorns · 29/04/2023 21:50

"Noise wise I cannot stand the sound of anyone chewing or swallowing either."

Oh, yes. If DH comes near me to say something, chomping and slurping some food, I have to tell him to move back. Can't stand the sound.

My son eats so loudly and slumps etc. But he also makes little happy sounds too like "nom, nom" and "mmmmm" I have to sit on my hands I hate it. Try to force that down as he's got ASD and I try to be kind about it. Telling him TO slow down etc but inside I'm screaming shut up already!!!!

Oopswediditagain2023 · 29/04/2023 21:54

The sound of the extractor fan. Gives me the rage! Also lots of holes together as PP has said - absolutely horrifies me and for some reason makes my teeth physically hurt.
Also baked bean "juice". I love baked beans but the thought of a bit of just the juice being on my skin makes me heave.
