sensory nightmare

just thought this might be an interesting thread!

what is your sensory nightmare?! either NT, ND, ASD, doesn't matter anyone can comment :)

mine is grease- it gives me absolute shudders and I can't eat anything greasy with my hands. I use a spoon or gloves for crisps and the idea of eating a McDonalds/any takeaway with my hands makes me feel physically sick. I can't tolerate skincare products that feel remotely greasy either.

the other thing is the feeling of being in my bed and not having any socks on and my feet sweating on the covers. again, can't explain how sick this makes me feel but it is absolutely awful!

what's your sensory nightmare? :)

Baked beans make me heave, always have. I'm a 70s child ((born '70). My brother would get mince, beans and mash; I would have mince, sweetcorn and mash. Mum got it, very early on. 🙂

chocspot · 29/04/2023 22:00

Arcades! Sensory overload- lots of different noises, the smell, the flashing lights, it's often too hot and too crowded. Yuck.

UnctuousUnicorns · 29/04/2023 22:02

"Also certain mugs and dinnerware that's almost clay-like, feels rough and grainy on your mouth"

Biscuit ware, agreed. 😦

Hugasauras · 29/04/2023 22:05

Bread when a bit has fallen into sink and gone all spongy. I can't bear it. When I was pregnant it actually made me heave, and even now I shudder and have to pick it up in something else so I don't touch it.

WeeOrcadian · 29/04/2023 22:05

Wet socks - makes me feel ill

AnneofRedGables · 29/04/2023 22:07

Bin juice.
Hairs stuck in the washing-up sponge.
Hairs in food.
Accidentally touching ketchup or any cold sauce.
Dry, cracked heels on silk bedding 🤮

LilySavage · 29/04/2023 22:07

Egg whites 🤢 slimy disgusting stuff and I have to wash my hands IMMEDIATELY if any gets on me.

Also, anything sticky. Honey, jam, golden syrup. All horrendous.

My mother ick is the seeds in a bell pepper or a chilli. Freak her right out

AnneofRedGables · 29/04/2023 22:09

Oh, also any food stuck in the plughole 🙈

AnneofRedGables · 29/04/2023 22:13

And hair stuck in Play Doh. OK I need to stop thinking now 🤢

ireallycantthinkofaname · 29/04/2023 22:13

god I have so many!!

> dried superglue on my hands
> dry unvarnished wood - varnished is ok. Not sure why.
> dry grit/dirt on my hands or my hands feeling dry
> paper
> sound of people chewing
> microwave binging
> the way my father drinks beer. It's very specifically enraging but I can hear the saliva sloshing round inside the fat of his cheeks and it makes me want to curl up and scream.
> wet fabric on my skin. That's a tricky one because I used to work in an LFS.

.....there's probably more but I'd be here till next week if I listed everything

gallina · 29/04/2023 22:13

Chalk, the feel of it, the sound of it. Ahh
The thought of it is giving me goosebumps!

bellocchild · 29/04/2023 22:14

Having a dry mouth... I always have a bottle of water with me and panic if I don't

bookworm14 · 29/04/2023 22:18

Touching dry sponges. <shudder>

PiffleIsTakingThePiss · 29/04/2023 22:23

Snotty egg white. Any egg white but especially snotty egg white.

When disgusting people spit on the pavement. The noise of the spit hitting the ground. Oh God.

BarryK3nt · 29/04/2023 22:23

Mine is velvet

nocoolnamesleft · 29/04/2023 22:28

For me, it's food textures. Mushroom, slimy onions, the white of egg, broccoli, eurgh, gag worthy.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 29/04/2023 22:29

my hands when they dry after being wet and I can’t touch anything because they’re so dry

and

having sleeves down and not rolled up so I can feel cloth on my forearms

Squishedstormtrooper · 29/04/2023 22:30

Hand cream. It makes me start to panic when it’s at the point before absorbing in because I can’t get it off, even when you wash your hands it’s still there. Yuk.

BlueThroughandThrough · 29/04/2023 22:31

The feel of fabric firmly rubbing against my skin, particularly on my hands/ wrist. It makes my skin crawl. I can't stand it. Think massage or comfort. 🤢

NoItsNotAndNeverWillBe · 29/04/2023 22:33

Sandpaper.

Unglazed pottery

Velvet.

Someone standing behind me

Howling dogs.

Different food textures in mouth at same same time.

Tags on clothes.

Shower curtain sticking to wet body.

The feeling when leaving swimming pool and going into fresh air.

Soggy toast

The sound of chalk on a chalk board.

Loads more but that's a few off top of head

Oysterbabe · 29/04/2023 22:35

All noises associated with getting stuff out of the freezer. The drawers squeaking against the ice, the sound of boxes rubbing against the sides or eachother... I've got goosebumps thinking about it.

Justalittlebitduckling · 29/04/2023 22:35

Trypophobia! Don’t Google it whatever you do 😫

Panteranoir · 29/04/2023 22:41

Too many people around me, lots of noises are hard to cope with too.

Probably the worst was the Vegas Strip. I only went briefly to see a show but I hated every second. The noise, the lights, the volume of people, complete overload.
