Breeder has not giving us her address to view puppy

Hi we were looking for a spaniel breeder and found one not too far from us, price agreed with deposit agreed, breeder had chat on phone with us to find out about us & all was good. Arranged with breeder to visit puppy tomorrow at her house by phone however she said to us she would give us her address but up to now she hasn’t. So AIBU to think that she isn’t going to give us the chance to view the puppy considering we have deposit to pay her? Or are we missing something here that maybe she’s just been busy?

So where did you find this one? Facebook? As stated previously reputable breeders have waiting lists. I would be very suprised to find one with puppies available that are already born and are ready to leave mum in 2 weeks.

Highworth · 30/04/2023 08:31

How did you find one with puppies available so quickly? Sounds very odd.

If you found someone with an instantly available puppy that surely must be a puppy farm. There still appears to be next to no research by either party.

BadNomad · 30/04/2023 08:38

Of course she's using a puppy farm. No dog rescue or reputable breeder would give her a dog in her circumstances. This puppy will probably have a ton of health problems and an unpredicable personality.

And have you researched this breeder thoroughly? Do they screen the parents for any health conditions?

Safarigiraffe · 30/04/2023 08:42

Found on a breeders website called Champdogs puppies are 6 weeks old ready to leave in 2 weeks old

OP - have you not listened to anybody? Have you done ANY research on this breeder?

Did you also tell this breeder that you work term time only and your husband is retired despite your previous posts? Your springer will be bouncing off the walls if you are leaving it at home alone all day whilst you both work.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 30/04/2023 08:42

This is desperately sad.

The OP works FT so the poor puppy is going to be left alone for hours on end. Its coming from a puppy farm, so may well be very poorly.

OP, please don't do this

CaroleSinger · 30/04/2023 08:44

Most reputable breeders don't have puppies on tap. They have a waiting list. For goodness sake do some research and stop looking for an instant puppy!

Safarigiraffe · 30/04/2023 08:44

Puppy will not be left alone for hours on end as my husband can very easily work from home and there’s family who can very easily come to look after the puppy

So you now admit to lying on this thread about him being retired and your working 10-2 term time only? 😠

So your husband is not retired then? Come on OP I cant tell wether you are on a deliberate wind up or not but just stop its getting embarrassing now.

Highworth · 30/04/2023 08:47

You work 35-38 hours a week and your husband works full time?

It is not just being there at home with the puppy, how are you going to take it for walks? Springers need 1.5 hours to 2 hours of walking EVERY day. They also need mental stimulation, so either scent training or gun dog training to keep their minds active. You really have not thought about this and are incredibly selfish. You are a grown up and should know better than "me want fluffy puppy".

BadNomad · 30/04/2023 08:49

Does your husband even know you're getting this dog?

BadNomad · 30/04/2023 08:55

You really, really need to research how to look after Springer puppies. You're not supposed to walk puppies much until a certain age or you'll damage their joints. You need to puppy-proof your house because they will eat everything they can get their teeth on. Spaniels can have very sensitive stomachs, so you need to make sure you buy good quality food. Get insurance. Find a good vet. Find a good trainer. Find a local puppy training class. You only have 2 weeks to prepare.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 30/04/2023 08:55

Pets for homes is an ideal place for puppy farmers to advertise puppies, walk away, unless you can see the puppies with the mother in a home environment then don't buy.

Go to the kennel club website and find a breeder this way

Upthread you said your husband was retired and you work 10-2 term.time only.

You are a Liar. I'm very concerned about the poor puppy

BadNomad · 30/04/2023 08:57

And you're going to need to find a dog walker unless your husband can take a 1.5 hour break during work to walk it. One of you will need to do the same before work. Then after.

DogDamIt · 30/04/2023 08:58

Op. I breed dogs ( I'm fully licenced and registered ) and I would never advertise on websites such as Gumtree and pets4homes ect. No other reputable breeder who I know would either.
Walk away.
I won't let anyone see my pups until I have visited the potential owner to check that both they and their property is suitable and they can demonstrate a good knowledge of the breed.
Only then, if I'm satisfied, would I give them my address to view the pups and their parents.
I doubt this is the case with the breeder of the pup that you're wanting, so I would leave it and find a pup from a reputable breeder.

Dibbydoos · 30/04/2023 08:59

She may not be a breeder but may be obtaining the puppy from a puppy farm.

Please try the Dogs Trust, RSPCA or dog shelter first. They do have puppies. They might not be a spaniel, but you just never know. We were so unlucky with the Dogs Trust - we missed out on so many dogs (we didn't look at puppies) that would have been perfect to rehome, my kids got upset everything which is why we ended up looking for puppies elsewhere. I've bought 2 puppies via that website, both family dogs that had puppies both gave me their address promptly. I saw mum and dad. I'm still in touch with the sellers too.

When I was buying my puppy, the breeder met me at a local carpark, made sure I was who I said I was and then once he was happy and had a copy of ID he asked me to follow him to his address to view the puppy.
Breeders don't want to give out their address to anyone, as if you were someone who robs puppies to resell them, you have the exact address and can strike at any moment.

It could be this.
They have LEAST hundreds, sometimes as much as 10 thousand pounds worth of puppies so they need to be careful. It’s not just the money side, a decent breeder won’t want them to be stolen and given to anyone that will pay when they would be careful about who they sold them to.

mondaytosunday · 30/04/2023 09:12

If you look at reviews of Champdogs they have a bunch of negative reviews - all from breeders who have been removed from their list due to : over breeding, breeding non regulation colours etc etc. All the positive reviews are from happy customers.
However I am AMAZED you were able to source a breeder in one morning who happened to have a puppy ready in a couple weeks. Vast majority would have a waiting list of people who registered interest and were vetted by the breeder ages ago.
Go today to just look and get the feel of the place.
