Does anyone else iron all their clothes? Not daft things like socks and knickers but everything else including bedding?

i don’t love doing it but I just can’t bear the look of unironed clothes (especially for DC)

is anyone else like this? am I mad?

I used to iron all clothes.
I now iron nothing.

Emmamoo89 · 29/04/2023 07:59

I don't iron.

Never have. Never will.

deepspace9 · 29/04/2023 08:00

I iron very little tbh. School uniform is about it 😁. Definitely wouldn't iron bedding!

DustyLee123 · 29/04/2023 08:00

I don’t iron.

vivaespanaole · 29/04/2023 08:01

I prefer most things ironed too which seems unusual these days.

I don't like the feel of unironed clothes on my skin they are stiff and scratchy. And ironed bedding can look crumpled and doesnt feel nice.

I try not to be a martyr and when i have a lot to do i will skip items that look ok. Its easier in better weather when things have been dried outside.

JuneShitfield · 29/04/2023 08:02

I haven’t ironed in almost a decade. I send shirts, smart trousers etc out.

Pottedpalm · 29/04/2023 08:04

I iron most stuff; I like clothes and bedding in natural fibres which look better ironed. I judge people who go around looking like rag bags.

Enko · 29/04/2023 08:05

Mn is so anti ironing. You will get plenty claiming noone can see the difference.

I can. I accept you are ok with looking like that. I don't judge your choice I am not ok with ut for myself.

Bedding ironed has the most amazing sensation and I am not willing to give up that sensation.

So yes I iron and I actually quite like it pod cast on and just get on with it.

JuneShitfield · 29/04/2023 08:08

@Enko I agree with you about bedding. We have an emperor bed though… ironing all that would take two big lads and a wheelbarrow.

I like the feel of pressed sheets though so I do send it out occasionally to a place that does hotel laundry — they have one of those huge mechanical folder things that does a duvet cover in about 12 seconds.

Merrow · 29/04/2023 08:14

I have very little that I iron. When I stay at MIL's she irons absolutely everything (including socks) and with the exception of jeans it does feel quite nice! DP claims that body heat cures everything, and I say that's because on our division of chores ironing is theoretically their job

CrispsnDips · 29/04/2023 08:15

I iron my tea towels 😆

boobashka · 29/04/2023 08:19

@CrispsnDips I always iron my tea towels too. A nice easy meditative activity and I love pulling a fresh, neat towel out the drawer!

Lampzade · 29/04/2023 08:19

I agreed to marry Dh if he promised that he would do most of the ironing.
When the dc were young he would iron all their uniform/ clothes etc.
I iron when I need to but live in Lycra most of the time so don’t really need to iron.
I send bed sheets out to be ironed because I can’t stand crumpled bed sheets
I dislike ironing and even watching my favourite tv box set while ironing doesn’t make it any easier

ohtowinthelottery · 29/04/2023 08:23

I iron clothes. Can't abide clothing that looks like it's been slept in. I only iron bedding for the guest bed.
I was brought up in a household where my DF did all the ironing. He ironed everything! Socks, pants, towels (including t- towels ). I think it was more to soften things that had been line dried or hung for days indoors.

Fuzzyblank · 29/04/2023 08:24

I iron most things too. And tea towels.
i’m another who can see the difference between ironed and un-ironed. Again I don’t judge those who don’t, but to me it’s a 5/10 min job once the clothes are dry and I think everything just looks and feels better

wildinthecountry · 29/04/2023 08:24

When my kids were little , I mean like babies and toddlers , I used to use a travel iron to iron their clothes . Now they are fully grown I thankfully never iron their clothes now .

NotMeNoNo · 29/04/2023 08:25

Yes I iron clothes except underwear and active wear and things like tea towels so they are stored folded neatly.
I don't mind it and we don't tumble dry so quite a few things do look better for a quick press.
I realise this makes me a stupid time waster but then I'm only scrolling MN otherwise!

Bobbybobbins · 29/04/2023 08:26

I don't iron at all and only buy clothes that I can get away with not ironing!

Oysterbabe · 29/04/2023 08:26

I don't iron a single thing.

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/04/2023 08:27

I much prefer to iron clothes, I have work things that need to be ironed and the kids uniforms need ironed - by the time I’ve done that I might as well do everything else. I tend to iron on a Sunday afternoon listening to Johnny Walker - it never takes more than an hour or so.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 29/04/2023 08:28

I don't detest ironing but I don't love it and in not great at it. I would love a beautiful airing cupboard with beautiful ironed linen but most of the time mine get shoved in a drawer. In a busy household it's the first thing to get dropped as a priority but I'll do it if I have time to spare and want my TV watching to be productive!

DappledThings · 29/04/2023 08:29

I do. But it's not really about how clothes look but about putting them away. Far prefer a quick ironing session and then putting away small pressed piles of things than the idea of folding from the line/dryer and then putting away less flat clothes taking up more room!

CreeperBoom · 29/04/2023 08:35

I think there are two types of clothes in the world. 1) where the creases fall out after 5 min of wearing it
2) where even a perfectly ironed item is creased again after 5 min of wearing, or hanging in the wardrobe.

I will spot iron items if they look shit when I go to put them on, but I don't iron anything prior to putting them away.

School uniform is type 1.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 29/04/2023 08:37

I've never ironed a thing in my life. Neither has DH.

Before he retired, my dad used to iron his work shirts and he did school shirts at the same time, but I'm pretty sure the iron got binned the very day he stopped working Grin

DelurkingAJ · 29/04/2023 08:42

We send out DH’s shirts for work. I live in jeans and stretch tops (and before the great move to casual clothing at work stretch tops with suits), DSs school uniform the creases drop out before they leave the house (and it’s polo shirts on top). I’m sure if you wear certain styles it matters but I don’t wear the odd too I have that should be ironed because I don’t love them enough to iron them!
