Does anyone else iron all their clothes? Not daft things like socks and knickers but everything else including bedding?

i don’t love doing it but I just can’t bear the look of unironed clothes (especially for DC)

is anyone else like this? am I mad?

I iron what needs doing. I don’t do stuff like leggings because they don’t need it. But I always do the kids uniforms and clothes. I hate seeing kids dropped off with wrinkled clothes, I think it looks so scruffy.

I iron most stuff; I like clothes and bedding in natural fibres which look better ironed. I judge people who go around looking like rag bags.

First of all, try not to judge people on things which are irrelevant to they type of person they are.
second, I wear natural fabrics and don’t iron. I assure you I don’t look like a rag bag. It’s ironing I don’t do, not looking. I can see how I look. Hang as soon as washed. Fold or hang as soon as dry.

Mn is so anti ironing. You will get plenty claiming noone can see the difference.

I can. I accept you are ok with looking like that. I don't judge your choice I am not ok with ut for myself.

Bedding ironed has the most amazing sensation and I am not willing to give up that sensation.

So yes I iron and I actually quite like it pod cast on and just get on with it.

You don’t know whether you can tell the difference between ironed and not. What you mean is you can tell when someone is spearing creased clothes. We all can. It’s possible to have clothes, even linen, not be creased and still not iron.

Mumsnet classic. Queue loads of posters piling in to say that no one needs to iron anything and people who iron have sad pointless lives. My life, my rules.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 29/04/2023 17:08

I bloody love ironing and iron daily. I happily iron everything and I iron almost every day as I do a washing load almost every day. I love it when it's a dry day because I can do a wash, put it out and then iron it later. My work colleagues do say I need to get a life 🤣

cardibach · 29/04/2023 17:33

@Ihaveawonderfulpartner how many people live in your house that you need to do a wash every day?

revealmyjackpot · 29/04/2023 17:35

I quite like ironing, and iron pretty much everything. I might not if I had artificial fibre clothes, but I think cotton and linen need ironing.

hiredandsqueak · 29/04/2023 17:46

I iron, I quite enjoy it either do it in front of TV or with an audiobook. Clothes look better when they have been ironed.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/04/2023 17:52

I don’t iron much at all - exception is pure linen summer things.

Bedding - patterned duvets hardly show creases and in any case they soon drop out. I do iron pillowcases, but only for guests.

My Dsis in the US doesn’t even possess an iron, but everything goes in the tumble drier - same as nearly everybody else across the pond. According to her, general American feeling is that anyone who hangs washing out to dry is either poverty-stricken or mad. Possibly both.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 29/04/2023 18:30

Cardibach: two kids and two adults and another son who is at uni but is often back with clothes for me to wash. Towels, bedding, uniforms and work attire is relentless. I often empty the basket in the morning and it's almost full by the evening.

IglesiasPiggl · 29/04/2023 18:36

I am an ironer. I am pretty fast so don't find it a time - consuming task. I much prefer the look and feel of ironed clothes and bedding. I know non-ironers claim not to notice the difference, but I do. Maybe they're rubbish at ironing so there isn't much difference for them! 😁

Greenfree · 29/04/2023 18:39

I haven't ironed since I bought a handheld clothes steamer! They are amazing, I hate piles of clothes lying around so I put all clean clothes way and then on Sundays steam stuff I know me and DD will wear during the week (work &school stuff). Other items I just steam as I go

You know when people say they remember where they were when they heard JFK was shot?

Well, I had the day off work and doing the ironing at just before 2pm London time in September 2001. It was one of those rare times when I thought I'd iron the duvet.

I was in the kitchen and a report came over the radio that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I thought it must have been an accident and turned the telly in the living room to Sky News and went back to the kitchen to drag the ironing board in to watch it.

And that's when I saw the second plane hit.

I got through a lot of ironing that day.

PS my mum was doing the ironing when she heard over the radio that JFK had been shot in Dallas, Texas, in November 1963. I was snuggled in her womb.

This really made me laugh!!

I don’t iron, I only ever use an iron for HAMA beads.

Maireas · 29/04/2023 19:18

I like ironed clothes, so enjoy ironing. It's pleasant getting the creases out.
I like to look smart for work and wear a lot of shirts. I don't wear polyester or acrylic clothing so it's cotton mostly or cotton mix or linen, so it looks better ironed.
If you live in leggings and don't mind fibres like polyester then there's no need.

LittleDonkeyKong · 29/04/2023 19:23

I only use my ironing board to wrap presents!

Toebrushtoe · 29/04/2023 19:27

I iron bedding. I have always said that I deserve to get into a bed with ironed sheets. I am so worth it.

dementedpixie · 29/04/2023 19:34

I iron school and work shirts and ds's school trousers. I dont iron anything else

Panickingsomewhat · 29/04/2023 19:42

But where do you ironers find the time and energy?!

We both work full time (teachers). Two kids with numerous activities. I could see me getting some ironing done this weekend as there’s an extra day… but normally? Nope.

Nellieinthebarn · 29/04/2023 19:58

I iron most things, not socks and knickers, but I do iron dishcloths, tea-towels, t-shirts, PJs, jeans and bedding as well as the usual things like woven shirts and smart trousers. I really like ironing, put a podcast on and have a cup of coffee on the side. I find it really relaxing and calming.

Maireas · 29/04/2023 19:59

It's like most things, if you want to do it, you find time. I have no idea how people find time to have a dog with all that walking and whatnot.

Fudgewomble · 29/04/2023 20:02

I don’t iron anything nor does DH - however we like everything to be ironed - especially bedsheets - so have an ironing lady come for 4 hours every week.

oviraptor21 · 29/04/2023 20:03

I iron while watching the telly. Pretty much everything gets ironed including knickers (but not socks).

By spearing I am assuming your autocorrect came through and it was meant to be wearing?

I can almost always see the difference between something that is ironed and not creased and something that is "just" creased. I think many can. You may not be able to but that doesn't = no one can.

Something not being ironed doesn't automatically mean a person looks creased it can simply mean it is not ironed so not as flat as it would be when ironed.

As a rule, I stay away from telling others "What they mean". It's rare we get it right.
