Left over chinese

Light hearted(ish), I’m completely expecting people to say IABU however I think I’m not and I am slightly devastated by this.

So I went to bed early last night after we had a Chinese take away, I’d left my leftover plate in the microwave in the dream of being able to pick at a bit of chow mein when I indefinitely get up several times throughout the night with the baby.

I was up with baby at 1ish, I was so exhausted but I noticed my plate had been moved, didn’t think anything of it in a zombie state.

Got up at 5 with baby for the day, realised what I’d noticed at 1 then the penny dropped, my plate had been cleared or eaten or something, whatever, the leftover Chinese food I had been savouring in the hopes of a pick me up had vanished.

DH must have eaten it, AIBU to be boiling inside at the shear audacity that he’s eaten my leftovers?! He had his own food but no, he’s also decided to eat my leftovers?!

I’ve checked the food bin, he hasn’t scrapped my plate as there was quite a bit left. I highly doubt our 11, nearly 12 year old ate it as I don’t think he would have had the balls.

I’ve WhatsApp’d DH, accusing of eating my plate. Is this grounds for divorce?!

Fucking hell! Yes to devorce. Chinese food is sacred which is why I only eat it when oh is away with work and no one can interfere with leftover (or judge me for the quantities I eat)

TellHimDirectlyInDetail · 29/04/2023 07:29

If it wanted to keep it, it should have been kept in the fridge. But since your doing night feeds any anger is warrented.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 29/04/2023 07:31

I'd be furious - DH knows never to touch my food 😂

Nordicrain · 29/04/2023 07:32

Urgh at leaving food "in the microwave" like that somehow stops it going bad. He might well have saved you from food poisoning.

Also find it odd you all as a family seem to eat through the night.

35965a · 29/04/2023 07:32

You left the plate in the microwave? It needs to be in the fridge.

strawberryfluff · 29/04/2023 07:33

Why did you leave it in the microwave? Weird thing to do. Left overs need to go in the fridge. Maybe whoever ate it will now have food poisoning.

Sophie89j · 29/04/2023 07:34

Thanks guys, means a lot to know I’m not being a dragon. I’ll definitely look into solicitors first thing Tuesday, just encase this kind of disrespect happens again.

@TellHimDirectlyInDetail FYI the left overs that weren’t dished up get put in the fridge once cooled but due to exhaustion levels I was unable to eat much of my plate, apparently my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

Also why are you whatsapping your husband? Has he gone out? Couldn't it wait until he's back?

Sophie89j · 29/04/2023 07:37

Also want to point out as a family we don’t eat through the night, I was in bed by 8pm but with the whole leaving it in the microwave over night thing, it’s only me who does this for whatever is left on my plate after only having Chinese, which is a once in a blue moon scenario.

I’ve never had food poisoning before and considering this is supposed to me a bit lighthearted I do love the jumping the food poisoning conclusion.

@strawberryfluff I’ve WhatsApp’d him as he’s still in bed when I’ve been up since 5.

@strawberryfluff I’ve WhatsApp’d him as he’s still in bed when I’ve been up since 5.

So you messaged him while he was asleep? Or if he's awake in bed why don't you actually talk to him? Do you normally message each other in the same house?

food safety and hygiene isn't lighthearted so I think people are just trying to point out its not safe.

GaspingGekko · 29/04/2023 07:41

Is leaving food in the microwave normally a sign that it will be eaten later in your household?
If so then YANBU.
However I personally would never imagine that food left out of the fridge like that was wanted for later.

I think he make fake being asleep for a long time as he's scared to face the fury after his terrible actions!
How very dare he!

He defo needs fo make it upto you

Ps I now want Chinese for dinner!!

Hotfootgoose · 29/04/2023 07:42

He now owes you big time. I think it’s time you went for a spa and beauty treatment, paid for by him. Chinese is sacred. Everyone knows that!

Yes it's grim. It's also odd that people think the microwave somehow guards off germs more than leaving it on the counter. My DH does this, as do his parents, the amount of food I've had to throw away after he's left it in the microwave to "keep".

SinnerBoy · 29/04/2023 07:44

It won't go off in a few hours, it will have been fine.

Sophie89j · 29/04/2023 07:44

@strawberryfluff we don’t normally message when in the house together no unless one of us is having a lie in as odds are we’d forget whatever it was.

OP posts:
coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 29/04/2023 07:44

OP didn't ask about food safety so I'm not sure why everyone is commenting on it.

If the DH was genuinely concerned about food poisoning, why didn't he just put the plate in the fridge?

Or, let OP, as a grown adult, make her own decisions about what she does with her own leftovers?

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 29/04/2023 07:44

YABU for leaving it in the microwave instead of the fridge...
But hell yes. Divorce the bastard.
Any man who stole my food in those circumstances would be toast 😀

Theraffarian · 29/04/2023 07:45

Could be worse , we put a bag of prawn crackers that hadn’t been eaten in the microwave last time ( to save the cat from pulling the bag to bits overnight ) and completely forgot about them until we opened the microwave a week later .

Because its gross and unhygienic

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 29/04/2023 07:47

@strawberryfluff and it's not your business and nothing to do with the thread 🙄

Loads of people eat leftovers that have been left out all night - if you think it's gross and unhygienic, just don't eat it.

AtChoService · 29/04/2023 07:47

Many people leave food in the microwave, and never get sick. I've never heard of anyone getting food poisoning this way.

Batalax · 29/04/2023 07:50

I must admit I couldn’t read the op properly because I kept thinking if the danger of leaving food out from before 8pm till 5am. Chinese left out for 9 hours!

Yes , he shouldn’t have eaten it if he knows it’s yours. That wouldn’t be a light hearted situation in my house.
