Left over chinese

Light hearted(ish), I’m completely expecting people to say IABU however I think I’m not and I am slightly devastated by this.

So I went to bed early last night after we had a Chinese take away, I’d left my leftover plate in the microwave in the dream of being able to pick at a bit of chow mein when I indefinitely get up several times throughout the night with the baby.

I was up with baby at 1ish, I was so exhausted but I noticed my plate had been moved, didn’t think anything of it in a zombie state.

Got up at 5 with baby for the day, realised what I’d noticed at 1 then the penny dropped, my plate had been cleared or eaten or something, whatever, the leftover Chinese food I had been savouring in the hopes of a pick me up had vanished.

DH must have eaten it, AIBU to be boiling inside at the shear audacity that he’s eaten my leftovers?! He had his own food but no, he’s also decided to eat my leftovers?!

I’ve checked the food bin, he hasn’t scrapped my plate as there was quite a bit left. I highly doubt our 11, nearly 12 year old ate it as I don’t think he would have had the balls.

I’ve WhatsApp’d DH, accusing of eating my plate. Is this grounds for divorce?!

Was any of the leftover food rice? If it was you are playing with fire. Rice is terrible for causing food poisoning and I wouldn't risk it.

anon199900 · 29/04/2023 09:53

All I can think about is the microwave would stink, an enclosed space with Chinese in it 😂

FeltedDogs · 29/04/2023 08:53

I have 9 cats. Anything I value lives in the microwave. And if food is still warm, I put it there to cool rather than put it in the fridge which isn't great either. I'm still alive even though I keep food in the micro, have 9 cats and share ice creams with my dog (she gets 2 licks to 5 of mine) mind you, I also smoke and have a big car so I guess I'm not your average poster

Wait your dog licks your ice cream and then you lick the same ice cream afterwards, over where the dog has licked it?!

FeltedDogs · 29/04/2023 10:07

Yep. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I feel the ick about toddler fingers in public with bogey and poo poking. Dogs, not so much, horses for courses.

blahblahblah1654 · 29/04/2023 10:15

Very rude to eat your leftovers if he knew you wanted them. Do you not share dishes? Leaving it uncovered is a bit horrible. Wouldn't it dry out within a couple of hours? I'd put it back in the tub.

@FeltedDogs

urgh your dog licks their arse which possibly has remnants of shit then licks your ice cream which then you lick ?! Vom

and have no idea what you’re on about with “poo poking”

And to think the human race survived for thousands of years before fridges! 🙄

I'm always a bit stunned by the high level food poisoning paranoia on this site that I just don't encounter in real life. It's one thing to be cautious yourself, it's a new level to randomly attack someone else for their extremely low risk choices.

OP can you start packing his things? This is a true LTB situation.

I know, I genuinely wonder where all these people are in real life because I don't know anyone who is as obsessed with hygiene as some posters here.

Therealjudgejudy · 29/04/2023 10:32

Leftovers are the best thing about a takeaway.

OP, he owes you a new one tonight, all to yourself!

Tidsleytiddy · 29/04/2023 10:39

I left express instructions not to bin my leftover Indian takeaway from last night. It was left untouched and I’ve just finished it off. Lovely

ThinWomansBrain · 29/04/2023 10:39

Did you say (or whatsapp) 'too tired to eat this now. look forward to having it later'?

SkyandSurf · 29/04/2023 10:40

Do you have a shovel and a garden bed that needs refreshing?

But sorry I agree with PPs, storing them in the microwave is 🤮, how far away was your fridge?

If my DH left half a plate in the microwave I would assume he'd forgotten it and i probably would have thrown it away and cleaner the plate. We live in a warmish climate though, maybe in the UK that's not considered as nasty as it is here?

Tidsleytiddy · 29/04/2023 10:41

Mine’s always left out on the side in the kitchen. No food poisoning here. Wouldn’t reheat rice tho…

sixfoot · 29/04/2023 10:45

Firstly, he shouldn’t have eaten your leftovers. Very bad form, particularly as you are also BFing his child.

however I also feel slightly sick at the microwave storage, fridge much better!

SinnerBoy · 29/04/2023 08:11

No, no, no! Don't bother with the solicitors. Be patient and get another Chinese and stash the remnants until the following week.

Put the week old remnants in the microwave and allow your revenge to take it's course naturally.

😂
OP I think he definitely deserves this then the divorce petition the next morning when he's truly regretting his evil actions, revenge is a dish best served cold.

Come for the lighthearted posts about leftovers, stay to be interrogated about food hygiene and
Whasapping instead of “using your words”.

😂

LadyMargaretDevereux · 29/04/2023 11:01

I always eat half my Chinese, then look forward to the other half the next day. Dh always wolfs all of his the first night so if he ate my leftovers there would be hell to pay. LTB.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/04/2023 11:02

LTB, obviously 😁

OldTinHat · 29/04/2023 11:03

No one, just no one, should eat a dibbed plate of Chinese leftovers apart from the dibee. Left in a container, fair enough. On a plate? No effing way!

LTB, throw all of his belongings out of the window, drench them with soy sauce, change the locks and poke prawns up inside the exhaust of his car. Then order another Chinese and sit in the window eating it with a smug look of satisfaction as he sobs outside! 😆

Comedycook · 29/04/2023 11:04

I love a Chinese takeaway... sadly on a strict diet but I can only imagine the disappointment you must have felt.. absolutely gutted.

edenhills · 29/04/2023 11:06

We always leave takeaway food out on the side and eat the next day. We have never got food poisoning. Don't eat meat though. Dead animal flesh is probably full of bacteria and needs to be too thrown away.

YouJustDoYou · 29/04/2023 11:06

The cost of takeaway food alone means it's precious! And your dh just scarfed yours all for himself, greedy pig, I'd be mad too.

And I love all the pearl clutching over leaving some takeout out the fridge overnight in this horrifically baking heatwave weather we're having 😂

ArrrMeHearties · 29/04/2023 11:17

Yes it's grounds for divorce. Everyone knows leftover Chinese food is better the next day especially a curry. I'd be getting him to replace what he has eaten

Deathmetal · 29/04/2023 11:20

those pesky house flies which are starting to spawn again this time
of year?

this is the reason why I’m scared of opening the windows!

Georgyporky · 29/04/2023 12:02

I've trained DH to ask me what to do with any leftovers - all meals, not just t/a.

Sometimes eat them, other times cover & put in fridge for lunch.

FortheBeautyoftheEarth · 29/04/2023 12:17

@Sophie89j The first NYE I spent with my now husband, this happened to me. I was really tired so I went to bed before him and fell asleep. In the morning I said 'Ah well, at least we still we still have the Chinese leftovers...' and he looked a little sheepish and confessed he'd eaten them. He says there wasn't a lot left, but that is NOT how I remember it at all and I still remind him of this whenever possible. (It was over 5 years ago now lol!)
