To think boys shouldn’t go in to men’s toilets???

Scotlandma · 27/04/2023 22:05

This is hypothetical I seen another post about someone not letting their 9 year old use mens public bathrooms

what age do other people let their children go in to toilets on their own?

and how do you navigate them using the disabled toilets if not?? I’d be so worried in case someone actually disabled needed them

You don’t see dicks in men’s toilets. You just don’t.

Yes you do. I've wandered into the men's loos on occasion (I'm absent-minded) and there were definitely men standing holding their penises as they peed against the urinals.

Satsumastocking · 29/04/2023 00:05

There's been a sexual assault on a boy at my local community garden loos and another in our local swimming pool changing room in the last two years. Those are just the ones I've heard about. So I don't think it's "hysterical" to want my DS (10) accompanied to the loo or with me in the women's.

RightOnTheEdge · 29/04/2023 00:15

DdraigGoch · 28/04/2023 12:04

I don't know where you work, but that doesn't reflect my experience of men's toilets at all - and I can guarantee that I've used a few thousand more than you.

Well lucky you! Sorry I didn't know it was a competition. You win 🏆

Bellevu · 29/04/2023 00:17

@Satsumastocking why can't you accompany your 10 year old son into the men's loos? Wouldn't that be better than insisting he's in the women's toilets because you're not confident that he can go to the toilet alone?

Jonei · 29/04/2023 00:40

10? Poor kid.

I actually used the mens loos at a service station and in a Theatre as the wait for the ladies was too long and I can’t hold it in that long.

Definately saw men at urinals and everything on show.

No one said anything about a competition. I said that in my experience (which like SimonJT's will be far wider than yours) men's toilets aren't generally like the picture you paint of your workplace.

How did we reach a stage where 'standing topless' in the ladies became a possibility Confused

🤣 these threads are so embarrassing to most normal women 😳

BashfulClam · 29/04/2023 05:06

That’s not what I said. It’s that these issues always be one door thing for women to solve or deal with how about designing toilets for families. Actual kiddie loos that are safe where parents can take kids matter what the sex if either is instead of once again shoving everything to do with kids onto women.

nomoredriving · 29/04/2023 05:34

Because of dodgy weirdos in men's loos!

When does a boy go from being a boy to a dodgy weirdo? Because by this analogy it's not safe for women to have a potential fifth weirdo in their space?

nomoredriving · 29/04/2023 05:34

Dodgy not fifth FFS!

Why did you walk up to them and purposely look over their shoulders?

GuinnessBird · 29/04/2023 07:24

Only on Mumsnet are some people obsessed with toilets.

I've just asked DH if he's ever seen a dick at a urinal and he looked at me as though I'm mental and said 'No but then I don't deliberately look for them over men's shoulders'!

nomoredriving · 29/04/2023 07:47

@Satsumastocking unless all the men in that toilet had 12 inch ducks when flaccid, you wouldn't see a thing!

What a load of twaddle!

TriesHardButOftenFails · 29/04/2023 07:47

Men's toilets can be dirty and sleazy but most are perfectly ok. Both my sons went in alone at a fairly young age while I waited outside. It's a judgement call the same as letting them walk to the shops, catch a bus or cross the road. They need to be independent but with caution.
I've also been in the ladies loos to rescue my daughter when she was locked in a cubicle and a few other occasion. I've never felt uncomfortable or had any problems and always found women very helpful in that respect.
sometimes we see problems which aren't there.

Exactly! My DH said the same.

Here we're talking about prepubescent males. I'm sure if they're already weirdos, they're pretty much harmless before then. Not forgetting they'll be with their mum, unlike the grown adult males in the mens.

nomoredriving · 29/04/2023 07:58

@CellophaneFlower I thought on MN every make was presumed predatory.

In my 35 years the only one I’ve seen that isn’t mine is my husbands when I jokingly had a look (no one else was at the urinals), plus the law of the urinal states unless there is only one free, never ever pick one thats next to an occupied urinal. On top of that when they’re flaccid you’d be hard to pushed to see anything unless someone is a very impressive shower.

I used to use the men's toilets quite alot because the queues are always much shorter, and I don't think I've ever seen a dick. Although I'm guessing that's not relevant if some perve wants to attack a young child, I think that scenario will be quite different Hmm

Clarabell77 · 29/04/2023 08:55

TheSnowyOwl · 27/04/2023 22:27

From the age of 4, they go into school toilets alone and public toilets are no different. Unless the child actually needs help going to the toilet and getting dressed, I would send them in. However, we live fairly rurally so the likelihood is the toilets are empty anyway. I have to admit I would have a much higher age limit for the public toilets at London train stations or busy venues.

My younger daughter tends to use the disabled toilet - she has autism and can find public toilets too noisy, crowded, bright and smelly.

Clues are in the names… School toilets are used by school kids and public toilets are used by anyone… so big difference.

Clarabell77 · 29/04/2023 08:58

BadNomad · 28/04/2023 19:36

Or is it not actually about the children's safety at all but rather about you and your feelings and need to feel comfortable? You don't go into the men's bathroom because you would feel uncomfortable even though your child is safe and using the right bathroom.

The child is safe in the ladies toilets with his mum, and so are all the girls and ladies in there. Get a bloody grip.

Wallywobbles · 29/04/2023 09:08

"99% of sex crimes aren't committed by women. I'll take my boy into the women's until he's 8/9"

Presumably 99% of sex crimes aren't committed in the men's toilets.
