Mine is that Derren Brown’s dad was my swimming teacher when I was in primary school.

I was in the top set too, only time I’ve ever been any good at a sport!

Whats yours?

My job was doing archaeology stuff in the background during a special dig and i was mostly forgotten about. Team photos? Yep Im not there. But my hi vis covered arse can be seen behind tony robinson during one of his monologues as i was bent over peering into a trench.

I was on the bbc for their top news story!
My dad got sued by a major company (literally every person and their dog knows and uses on a daily basis) when he bought an online domain from someone but it turned out the previous owner was a scammer. My dad was proven innocent and the company issued a public apology.
The BBC came round to our house and interviewed my parents and then we all had to sit around our dining table and act casual like we were having a conversation while they filmed us 😂 I was probably about 10.

I was also the voice of a national advert in my twenties. 😊

DD in a previous job spent a lot of time dressed as The Gruffalo....so for a while I was the Gruffalo's mum.

My mate went to school with Charlize theron
Said she was a snotty cow but very good at drama
Also said her mother who shot her abusive father was as 'guilty as sin'

My great grandad was paid a lot of money to spy in meetings with the great train robbers
Same guy had the world's biggest collection of birds eggs (couldn't do that now!)

I went to school with hunter from the gladiators
He hated sport and pe

I once sat outside a closed pub for an hour with Rhys Ifans because we'd both forgotten the clocks had gone back

BelladonnaTheWitch · 27/04/2023 10:12

Alex James is the son of my Dad’s old boss. He was only asked to join Blur because his parents were loaded and could afford to buy him a big car for all the gear to go into.

Years ago I was at a theatre in the West End sitting on the same row as Joss Ackland. At the interval I opened my purse to get some change for an ice cream and a load of coins fell out. He stood up and began to pick some of them up. Thought it was nice of him until he put them into his own pocket then acted like nothing had happened.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 27/04/2023 10:21

Bit of a sad one.... my late DP was well known and liked in the local community. When he died they did a double page spread in the local rag which I was interviewed for. Really not what I ever wanted in the context of "fame". Meh.

twistandscream · 27/04/2023 10:24

I gave Jo Brand a light for her fag once

unicornsinspace · 27/04/2023 10:46

I've met Gino D'Acampo and Ainsley Harriott, both lovely people.

And my husband went to school with Rebecca Adlington

UnctuousUnicorns · 27/04/2023 10:51

Does meeting people count? I've got a few I could mention, some of whom may only mean anything to folk of a certain age, though.

meikyo · 27/04/2023 10:53

My DH's uncle's best friend is Dame Zandra Rhodes. I've chatted with her at a few family events and she is lovely .

I dated a musician from a rock band for a couple of years in the late eighties.

BrianTilsleysdancepartner · 27/04/2023 05:50

I had a slow dance with Brian Tilsley from Coronation St at The Millionaire club in Manchester when I was a lass. Also regularly used to catch the same bus to college as Phil Oakey before he was famous. Gosh I’m old.

Did you snog him😮?

Mygym · 27/04/2023 11:08

I once guarded a door less toilet while Janet Street Porter had a wee.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 27/04/2023 11:09

But if we're talking about ourselves being famous (tenuously) rather than meeting/knowing famous people ... I had my letter published in Mizz (marginally cooler version of Jackie in the 90s) when I was about 12, does that count?

It was about how they never had models with pale skin, and how bad it was for you to tan. They then published a shoot with a very pale girl between when I sent the letter and when they published it and said "but we do use pale-skinned models, using her as an example", I was very annoyed.

I am expecting this to be engraved on my headstone - "Here Lies InigoMontoyahWillcox - beloved wife, mother and Mizz letter contributor"

x2boys · 27/04/2023 11:15
