To think this looks awful?! Grazing table....

Posted by a local pub for an event ..... wouldn't be able to eat a thing if I was going! All those hands in there, not to mention how far over you'd have to lean to get to the food in the middle and the worst bit? This will sit there for at least 12 hours before the event which is surely not within food hygiene regulations and it will taste awful!

I have never before seen such a turn off food presentation. There are so many reasons not to want to eat anything from this buffet.

Luckypom · 27/04/2023 11:41

I’m with you - don’t care re double dipping 🙈

Was it good?

‘and there have to be spoons and tongs for each bowl as required. Something like this’. No shit, Sherlock.

JaneJeffer · 27/04/2023 12:05

There isn't a chance in hell I'd eat one thing off that table. I can barely bring myself to look at it.

You may think it's obvious. I think it's obvious. Clear from this thread and many, many others like it in the last few years that there are plenty of caterers and hosts who don't get it, though.

People have been saying just that for 8 pages before you turned up with several earnest paras saying the exact same thing, with an added photo showing us how standard buffets operate. So, yes, Gasp, no Sherlock!

midsomermurderess · 27/04/2023 12:26

Let me guess, you’re an HCP or a TA.

Yes don't you run a pub too? So are you throwing some shade on a rival local business? Wink

Nope, not since covid.

Lovely lovely warm coffee ( sorry don't know how to tag 🤣 )
Excellent but harrowing 😳

sashh · 27/04/2023 04:59

It reminds me of the film, "the platform"

God that film was harrowing 😳

liveforsummer · 27/04/2023 15:45

You're right it's vile but no way they are leaving it there for 12 hours. That will be a previous board or proactive run

Fraaahnces · 27/04/2023 16:15

I forgot this website - for those of us that think this table is a nightmare.

Do they have Ovex liquid as an amuse bouche?

Frankola · 27/04/2023 16:32

I hate this trend with a passion. It just looks like a pit of germs to me

AuraBora · 27/04/2023 16:41

I agree with the throwing up on the table comment.
it's a firm no from me, I'm afraid. Yuk

thelongroad · 27/04/2023 16:45

I want a photo of it after the first few people have had a go. Absolutely revolting, I don't understand at all why this has become a thing. Have a meat platter, a veg platter, a cheese platter etc if you must, but this is just disgusting.
I mean, I like a buffet, but everything in it's own bowl/container/plate please, with appropriate spoons/tongs etc and spread out so that everything is reachable without having to lean over anything.

mainsfed · 27/04/2023 16:46

If every adult helped themselves with tongs/ spoons and didn’t graze whilst standing there, I think it would be fine.

You could also ask people to wear masks to stop breathing over it.

We have had platters and they were left neat so this wouldn’t be much different.

In fairness, smaller versions of these tables are common in Scandinavia and parts of Italy.

Hmm I cant imagine the ones in Italy or Scandinavia look like this load of pigs' swill...

stbrandonsboat · 27/04/2023 16:59

It's done by really lazy people I think because you must just gather up all the leftovers afterwards wrapped in the plastic tablecloth then dump in the bin. No plates or utensils to wash.

It reminds me of a pig trough. I wonder if you get a complementary box of immodium and a toilet roll at the end.

I suppose not. I recall individual sections and large spoons for most of the foods which sit together on a table for a long time. I don't usually go for it but once or twice I did and became sick soon after!

Sudeko · 27/04/2023 17:17

Unfortunately, it is guaranteed to start off the same conversations between the diners hovering over the food: "Ooh, this looks nice!" "What's that?" "I think I'll try some of that!" "Have you tried the x" " I had some of that Y on holiday last month" "There's so much choice, I don't know where to start!" "I'll be coming back for z I think!" 🙄

Bleakhouser · 27/04/2023 17:21

I love a buffet but no way would I be eating that unless I was one of the first to get there 😂

MrsR87 · 27/04/2023 17:27

Not for me! I’m not even a fan of buffets for hygiene reasons so although sometimes these grazing boards look nice and have some nice food on them, once the first person has taken their food it loses its appeal. Think of all the jumpers touching the food as people reach for the middle!
