To think this looks awful?! Grazing table....

Posted by a local pub for an event ..... wouldn't be able to eat a thing if I was going! All those hands in there, not to mention how far over you'd have to lean to get to the food in the middle and the worst bit? This will sit there for at least 12 hours before the event which is surely not within food hygiene regulations and it will taste awful!

Awful for vegetarians/coeliacs/anyone with allergies with all that cross-contamination

FofD · 27/04/2023 17:40

They are very popular at the moment.

Nightmare for allergens as cross contamination is inevitable.

Really? I thought they were a bit old fashioned now and very much of prepandemic Instagram times

Sudeko · 27/04/2023 18:33

Post pandemic, there is a lot of sharing the germs love going around out in public. Is it only in my patch where you get people huddling unnecessarily close to strangers and expelling phlegm at ear-splitting volume while walking down the street. I see grazing tables as an extension of this camaraderie.

It was probably invented to help hide the cheap shite.

That and this obsession with excess that sine people have.

Yes it’s this excess that turns my stomach, it just symbolises gluttony

StrawberryWater · 27/04/2023 19:43

Oh no thanks. Total boak.

Ive known people to pick their nose and go for grazing table food afterwards (no not me lol but someone at a work event). It put me off them for life.

User158349890 · 27/04/2023 19:47

Doesn't look very tasty, it's mainly raw veg and crisp type potato snacks

SingAlongAndItMightJustGetYouThrough · 27/04/2023 20:32

Ugh 😑

The outrage on this thread. Over a grazing table 🤣🤣🤣

It ticks 2 important boxes for a lot of people. The opportunity to talk about gluttony and how they couldn't possible manage more than half a breadstick, and a chance to squeal about germs.

Well to be fair, that wouldn't be any better at a finger food buffet.

xprincessxjanetx · 27/04/2023 23:34

I wouldn't be able to eat from that, I'm very particular about food and the idea of other people grabbing from it would make me feel sick.

AmeliaWarnerBros · 27/04/2023 23:58

Looks yummy & I'd go for it were I first, but the thought of people touching things, coughing/breathing over it & their saliva droplets/dandruff floating down & landing- no thanks... And as for men/little boys helping themselves when most don't wash hands after going to the loo...

Fraaahnces · 28/04/2023 00:41

Speaking of allergens… I was talking (via my friend) with my friend’s mum who is a nurse in S. Korea. I was asking about travelling there with coeliac disease and how to avoid allergens, etc. After being given a lot of very helpful advice, she simply stated that nobody in S.Korea has coeliac disease. The genes aren’t there. Her summation was that if it ever was there, S.Korea has been so poor for so many centuries that babies with life-long allergies/intolerances/immune responses to basic foods simply wouldn’t have survived childhood to pass on the genes. (Useful theory to hand over to my kids when they complain to me about their gene pool.)

What's particularly unhygienic about a grazing table compared to a regular buffet? People have their grubby hands over platters of food on a buffet table too!

A finger food buffet wouldn't be much better, but at least there wouldn't be any cross contamination that renders stuff inedible for veggies or vegans. To be honest, the hands in the food don't bother me. No different to a shared bowl of crisps or fruit or nuts. Some of the descriptions of how people supposedly feel about it are truly ridiculous, in classic MN style.

But I do prefer tongs or serving spoons where possible, and I definitely prefer food that hasn't touched meat or been so close to it that it might as well have done. And I think a grazing table looks impressive only as long as it's untouched.

Elvisismycat · 28/04/2023 17:50

Scratch, sniff, nose, arse... Its a no from me!

Vinomummyinlockdown · 28/04/2023 17:51

Never.

ShandaLear · 27/04/2023 01:30

Looks like someone has thrown up on a table.

Exactly what I thought. It looks vile.

JaneJeffer · 28/04/2023 17:56

You can have the lot @DreamingLoo 🤮

Tessabelle74 · 28/04/2023 18:32

It looks lovely if it was only me eating from it! Anyone else sharing it and I'm out!

Mummywarrior · 28/04/2023 18:38

There’s someone local to me who has a business doing these grazing tables. She uses shop bought food (sausage rolls, scotch eggs etc) and the cheap lidl cakes that are a rip off of Mr Kipling, and charges a fortune to lay it all out on a table! I do not get it at all??

LuckySantangelo35 · 28/04/2023 18:57

Julietand · 27/04/2023 01:07

Looks good to me!

@Julietand

easily pleased, lol

Beargrumps22 · 28/04/2023 19:08

just one word bleuuuk

Stopcomplainingandsortit · 28/04/2023 20:02

🤣🤣🤣 I just keep thinking of one of these fairground machines that push the pennies!! Someone stands at the top of the table and shoves it on to your plate 🤣 I don't get this at all but I bet it cost a fortune!! It's a no from me. I would hope the bar was selling bags of crisps or nuts just fir me!!

123ROLO · 28/04/2023 20:07

I think if I knew the people I was sharing it with I'd be ok
