To think this looks awful?! Grazing table....

Posted by a local pub for an event ..... wouldn't be able to eat a thing if I was going! All those hands in there, not to mention how far over you'd have to lean to get to the food in the middle and the worst bit? This will sit there for at least 12 hours before the event which is surely not within food hygiene regulations and it will taste awful!

Ew, I'll stick with a bag of crisps thanks.

FrownedUpon · 27/04/2023 10:36

Looks nasty.

I am not a fan of grazing tables but did eat from one at a baby shower recently. It was created by caterers in the host's home and was obviously just for the few good friends present. It was very artistic and beautiful to look at. That one in the photo is nothing like that. It is just food dumped on a table.

This. If you're going to embrace the ludicrous concept that is the grazing table then you really need to present it properly, not just place fistfulls of food next to each other. It's got to be beautiful to look at. And preferably not rule out those with allergies/veggies/vegans etc which this one does.

JuneShitfield · 27/04/2023 10:39

Just a normal Tuesday for me, that. <pats belly>

StarryGazeyEyes · 27/04/2023 10:45

The trend for serving food on a roof slate or manky chopping board was bad enough, but this is a whole new level of revoltingness.

Jonei · 27/04/2023 10:45

I wouldn't touch that. 🤢🤮

Vomiting Marcus Butler GIF by StyleHaul

It looks like its a feeding trough for animals. No way would I eat anything from that!

Lcb123 · 27/04/2023 10:51

Wouldn’t bother me, no different to hotel buffet.

Freefall212 · 27/04/2023 10:52

It is the evolution of the charcuterie board. I saw one that was for a big wedding - just a massive long table covered in food. I agree they can look great in pictures but soon look a mess.

Iloveautumncolours · 27/04/2023 10:52

It’s making my IBS bubble to the surface just at the sight of it - that’s grim!

SweetSakura · 27/04/2023 10:53

Yanbu, they are a revolting fad. And useless for anyone with allergies.

PrettyMaybug · 27/04/2023 11:00

Looks grim and vile. (Just saying that as I know it annoys certain people...) Grin

Where the F are the plates?! FAR too much stuff on there, and as pps have said, you have no idea who has fingered it already. (Ooooh matron!.... Shock)

newnamethanks · 27/04/2023 11:01

😱wheres the vom emoji when it's needed? Salmonella surprise. Ugh.

It's the sort of thing you would share with your immediate family at a push, but not with anyone else. Definitely not with randomers.

Hmm, I’m not so sure about this even. I know many toddlers and kids with a nose-picking habit… 🙈😂 Would share a smaller one with my husband though.

I also think these buffets look crap after a few things have been pulled out of place and they quickly become all muddled up so I imagine it’s difficult to salvage any leftovers so the waste element also puts me off. Love leftovers/cold cuts from a buffet style dinner at home the next day for lunch.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 27/04/2023 11:11

I could just about handle this if family put it on, by family I mean my mum or sister. Wouldn't trust my dad and I wouldn't do it myself!

I normally love a buffet, but something about this seems nasty as hell.

ShitFacedOnRetsina · 27/04/2023 11:14

DrFoxtrot · 27/04/2023 01:19

It's a bit grim but I absolutely love food that's been left to go soft/ crusty/ curly Blush. Leftover buffet is my ultimate guilty pleasure.

Also don't mind fingers and couldn't care less about double dipping.

I will leave quietly now...

Really? You have obviously never had food poisoning. No way would I go near food presented like that unless I was sharing it with DH only.

Just proves that because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

Shirls2 · 27/04/2023 11:15

Also, has anyone else noticed just how many people don’t wash their hands after using the toilet? I’ve seen several women (couldn’t comment on blokes as I’ve never been in their toilets) waltz out of the cubicle without even a splash of water, let alone soap. No shame whatsoever. Stepping foot into the communal area and touching the door handle of a public toilet makes my hands feel dirty enough, without touching the flush and loo roll etc in the cubicle. It really puts me off my food in a restaurant as I imagine how many of the cooks do the same if I’ve already seen this a number of times. 🤢

ShitFacedOnRetsina · 27/04/2023 11:17

There's something unpleasant about the term 'grazing'. It's reducing humans to the level of field stock.

Arniesleftleg · 27/04/2023 11:19

How is it any different from other buffets except you get stuff saved in bowls? No different really. People paw at food wherever its served, however its served to whatever it's served in. You're probably better taking your own snack if it really worries you. x

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2023 11:19

Absolutely repulsive. As so many have said, nobody with a food intolerance/allergy/coeliac disease could risk eating anything from that. Lots of people who don't eat meat or fish or dairy for ethical or religious reasons wouldn't be catered for either. Hygiene would be a huge issue. Plus, it would look awful as soon as people started taking food from it, assuming a few brave souls would tackle it. Not my idea of how to be a good host. There's a lot more to hosting than getting a picture of the table for social media.

I like buffets, but the different foods have to be kept separate in appropriate bowls/plates/platters, and there have to be spoons and tongs for each bowl as required. Something like this.

To think this looks awful?! Grazing table....

Shade17 · 27/04/2023 11:29

Absolutely fucking vile!

PurpleChrayne · 27/04/2023 09:16

The food version of a balloon arch.

Haha yes! Just as wasteful and tasteless.

Hoppinggreen · 27/04/2023 11:30

No, stuff is touching other stuff.
And that’s before anyone else gets their hands in there

It's not a generic picture for advertising, I know that pub well.and it's in situ. Hoping the picture was taken just before the event and I did indeed misunderstand their post!

Yes don't you run a pub too? So are you throwing some shade on a rival local business? Wink
