To think this looks awful?! Grazing table....

Posted by a local pub for an event ..... wouldn't be able to eat a thing if I was going! All those hands in there, not to mention how far over you'd have to lean to get to the food in the middle and the worst bit? This will sit there for at least 12 hours before the event which is surely not within food hygiene regulations and it will taste awful!

It's not a generic picture for advertising, I know that pub well.and it's in situ. Hoping the picture was taken just before the event and I did indeed misunderstand their post!

I can't wait for this grazing rubbish not to be a thing any more. What's wrong with serving buffet food on platters with serving tools like a normal person?

People are not normal anymore

I went to a function with one of these. Everybody went out for fresh air half way through because it created a bizarre stench. At the end of the event, the usual two people started filling massive bags to take home the leftovers. Only to discover several dead flies, hairs and what looked like the tail of a mouse.

It's reconstructed vomit, basically!

Who cares? It's not compulsory to go is it? So if you don't like it don't go. This is a non-issue.

If you could be sure it would be mentioned on the invitation, then actually that would be a factor in deciding whether to go.

Of course, some events you'll attend regardless of the prospect of appalling catering. So snacks in bag / quick escape to Greggs or whatever can be planned.

Terribly wasteful, because you have to cater for the number you expect, but so many people are reluctant about this horrible way of presenting food there's bound to be loads left over

Because they posted this tonight and the event is at lunchtime tomorrow, they added the time in their post.

Surely the pic is from previous event?

If not then I'd report to environmental health! I hate buffets and the cross contamination and bacterial spread aspect so not for me.

slowquickstep · 27/04/2023 10:01

Like pigs in a trough

Sudeko · 27/04/2023 10:02

It actually takes several hours to lovingly arrange it all. This is done for aesthetic appeal, not food safety considerations. By the time it is ready to present, some elements have started going off and the cross contamination is is full swing.

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 27/04/2023 10:05

Looks awful to me and I’m not that fussy! Once every one digs in surely everything will just get mixed together and look even worse! Also the cucumber strips are touching the pretzels so wouldn’t they go soggy? Also the veg touching the meat not great for vegetarians, I’m not even veggie and it’s putting me off! Also is that a special table or just a pub table they’ve put food onto? Got to stop now as more I think about it the more it’s making me feel ill!! Definitely not for me!!

Sadly, the aesthetic appeal is still zilch.

Bookworm20 · 27/04/2023 10:08

I literally will eat anything. But I really don't think I'd go for that! Why on earth stick it all directly onto a table, just put things on plates! I think its the fact its just straight onto the table and people will be digging in with their hands just puts me right off. Imagine the floor afterwards aswell, I mean with multiple people digging into that, its hardly going to stay put is it!

AutisticLegoLover · 27/04/2023 10:11

What fresh new hell is a 'grazing table'? That looks the stuff of nightmares. Everything is touching and everyone will be touching 😱

eatdrinkandbemerry · 27/04/2023 10:12

I agree looks awful and everyone touching it would be so off putting 🤢

Sudeko · 27/04/2023 10:16

The one I saw was at an event in the dead of winter during the pandemic and as you can imagine, there were a few people sniffling and coughing directly over it while they filled up their plates.

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 27/04/2023 10:18

Looks disgusting, like it's waiting for a pack of animals. "Grazing table" FFS 🤦‍♀️🙄🤪🤣

notprincehamlet · 27/04/2023 10:19

I like the idea of a buffet ... but then I remember that people are a bunch of disgusting bastards and the thought of sharing food that's been mauled by myriad hygiene-sceptics causes me to lose my appetite

Sudeko · 27/04/2023 10:20

In fairness, smaller versions of these tables are common in Scandinavia and parts of Italy.

ShepherdMoons · 27/04/2023 10:21

I'm not a fan of the grazing table. It's a dreadful idea, very unhygienic.

The food looks gorgeous but not laid out like that on a table with random hands just picking at it. It's a no from me.

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/04/2023 10:23

They could have put every single thing into its own bowl and it would've been a completely different matter. I wouldn't able to eat anything off that.

Tidsleytiddy · 27/04/2023 10:26

Ooooo no ta

MojacaSunset · 27/04/2023 10:29

Grazing tables are yet another ridiculous food fad!
Revolting.

Tubbyinthehottub · 27/04/2023 10:31

Repulsive

EggInANest · 27/04/2023 10:32

They might have posted a generic pic of their grazing table offer, rather than the actual one? So not left out all night?

I think they look a mess, and I don’t want food squashed against something with a clashing taste, but not sure why they are less hygienic than other ‘help yourself’ buffets / sandwich plates etc?

Blinky21 · 27/04/2023 10:33

I don't even eat from buffets, to me the idea of lots of others poking and breathing over my food is just gross.
