to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

I had someone have a massive go at me last week when I was out with my toddler . She dropped the last of her chocolate bar on the floor in the cafe and a dog hoovered it up - the owner went mad saying I should have been more aware of dd dropping it and how her dog will have to go to the vets and asking for my details !!!! It was about half a small bar I told her it’s the risk she takes going to an establishment serving food

What a ridiculous woman - I hope you didn't give her your details? I'd have told her to eff off.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 26/04/2023 14:26

I like dogs but wouldn't want a smelly mut sitting next to me in a cafe.

tillytoodles1 · 26/04/2023 14:28

Dont go to Windermere, the place is full of dogs. Some places have separate seating areas for people without them, but they're allowed in most places.

There was four of us and four dogs and we took them every time we went out to eat.

That’s a terrible way to label children. 🤣Accurate but damning!

A dog owners money is as good as yours. Businesses can see that and will capitalise on it where they can.

Suck it up buttercups.

@Missingmyusername and @DewinDWl there is a man who lives around the corner from me who growls ‘fucking kids’ at any child he sees walking past. I bet he isn’t a dog lover either. You don’t want to end up like him!

Putyourdamnshoeson · 26/04/2023 14:29

Wilkos is my dog's favourite place.

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 26/04/2023 14:29

Hardly alarming!

It is also a fairly accurate description of many toddlers. We allow them in our homes, on our furniture and I even allow mine in my bed!

🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'd guess there at least 20 cafes in my local area in London and they all welcome dogs afaik, maybe a couple are outdoor seating only. Some offer treats, too, or even bring them food from the kitchen. It's definitely a dog's world at the moment.

angela99999 · 26/04/2023 14:33

I stopped going to a local cafe once this started happening, and so did many other people. They were just left with a few dog owners and eventually folded.

Dangerous, unhygienic animals with entitled owners. YANBU.

😆 not a dog lover? 🐕. I guess there hasn't been an anti dog post for a day or two? Personally, I prefer dogs to most humans.

No, it’s still very much a human world, don’t panic. They only offer this because PEOPLE like it and will spend money there.

AluckyEllie · 26/04/2023 14:35

I think the problem is not having dogs that enjoy it, or are well behaved. We all know country pubs with the dog curled up under his owners seat or happily having a snooze by the fire. The issue is dogs yapping, bothering other people, begging for food from strangers or getting in the way of staff. Basically, like children. No one minds a well behaved child in a restaurant but no one wants a screeching, running around making everything sticky one. Same rule for dogs!

LaughingCat · 26/04/2023 14:37

I didn’t realise they couldn’t - everywhere in the countryside where I grew up allowed dogs in. They wouldn’t have had any customers otherwise! There were a few supermarkets and the like that only allowed guide dogs for a while, I guess, and not sure why you’d want to take your dog to a restaurant (though, again, those little yappy purse things have always been around in cafes etc, for as long as I can remember).

Trying to imagine taking my cats to the hairdressers, say. Man…that would be amazing. Lets normalise bodega cats in this country!

Doesn’t bother me at all.

I was out for lunch in a bistro type place last month and a young girl was running around unsupervised. She ran past a table and startled a dog that was lying underneath it unseen. It leapt up and barked at her, scaring her half to death. This is why kids of useless parents and dogs aren't a good idea in nice eateries in my opinion.

ScribblingPixie · 26/04/2023 14:38

I'm not panicking - I have a dog. I think it's an ok change but definitely a change. Five years ago a lot of these cafes were very much touting for business from families with small children but that's noticeably not the case now.

AlwaysGinPlease · 26/04/2023 14:41

Seriously!??? ANOTHER anti dog thread ?! There's one already with basically the same title. It's getting bloody ridiculous now!

Newsflash for you - if an establishment allows dogs in then you'll see dogs in there. HTH.

Was fairly surprised to see the Gaucho restaurant near my office advertising being dog friendly. It seems to pitch itself as a swanky glam place. Seemed wrong.

Do they still bring out the tray of raw meat and stand next to your table to tell you about it? Can't imagine that would go well with a labrador lying in wait under the table.

Lancasterel · 26/04/2023 14:42

Love dogs but don’t agree with them being allowed in shops, cafes etc - it’s not hygenic and very unfair to children in particular who are scared of dogs!

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 26/04/2023 14:43

You've just reminded me - we went to a local country pub for Mother's Day and one woman had her dog sat on the seat next to her. I was gobsmacked.

Lol, generalisation much?

I think @DewinDwl is describing kids.

Runaway0 · 26/04/2023 14:45

A question to some dog owners why is it acceptable to unleash and allow them jump up on strangers? It's not acceptable from any other animal. I don't want a random dog climbing on me while I'm running. If your dog has shit recall leash it .

They need to get over their fear then. Why should other people change their behavior because people can't cope with everyday life?

Some people have been bitten and attacked by dogs so dont like them. Humans have priority over dogs in human spaces.

I don’t think small children can just “get over their fear” of animals (often larger than them!) who can be unpredictable and unruly! Like I said, I love dogs personally but don’t think they should take precedence over people!

Circe7 · 26/04/2023 14:49

Apparently 27% of households on the uk have a dog. It’s probably more in some parts of the country. It’s a huge section of the market to cut out.

Dogs are allowed in most cafes near me and it’s really rare that I’ve seen them cause a nuisance.
