to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

And for the poster who's horrified because dogs lick each others arses, I've got unfortunate news for you about a surprising number of people.

Let's not forget that during COVID people had to be taught how to wash their hands and fuck knows where they've been.

Tekkentime · 26/04/2023 14:00

The whole dog-mad craze since the pandemic is really making me dislike dogs. I used to think they were ok but now I bloody can't stand them and their owners! I'm sure owners used to be more respectful of others, it's a massive shame.

CheerIeader · 26/04/2023 14:01

It's gross and I absolutely hate it.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 some people live very sheltered lives, don’t shatter their illusions!

Oh I have! There is a pub near Box Hill in Surrey which a) does food, and b) is full of dogs. I saw a waiter trip over a dog on an extendable lead (owners sitting at one table ignoring the dog, which had wandered over on its leash to a different table to beg food). Waiter tripped over the lead while carrying about 4 mains. It was spectacular, food went everywhere.

Wow that’s terrible tbf!

Maybe it should make you hate humans, not dogs, who had no fucking say in it.

When they pant or shake, they create a cloud of bacteria, mould spores and dander. They also leave traces of feces behind when they sit on furniture.

Youve just described my ex 🤣

It is also a fairly accurate description of many toddlers. We allow them in our homes, on our furniture and I even allow mine in my bed!

There's too many chavs with poorly trained dogs who think it's their right to encroach on others enjoyment. What's with dogs being off lead in parks allowing them to jump up on members of the public?

chavs

Here we go again.

Nomorescreentime · 26/04/2023 14:03

My Dd is allergic to dogs and she’s had a few awful flares from us going out for a meal to places I didn’t realise were dog friendly. Of course we avoid places we know are, but it’s sadly a barrier to us spending money in some local businesses.

It's disgusting. I have a three year old who has severe complex needs and cannot be in an environment with dogs in. People shrug and say 'I'd rather be with dogs than kids' but humans aren't deathly allergic to other humans. My son is deathly allergic to dogs. I've witnessed several dog fights/disagreement because dogs fight over food. It must be awful for the animals. It's warm, sometimes too warm for a fur coated animal in a cafe and smells nice but I'd imagine confusing, then there are other dogs in a confined space. It's just horrible.

Not that I have any desire to take my dog to a cafe or shop (except occasionally, pets at home) but if I did and you politely explained, I would absolutely leave and not put your child at risk. I am sure many people would do the same. 🙂

It's grim like, and I bet people would be kicking off if a cafe was full of rotties or great danes, but small fuckerpoos seem to be fine and dandy.

Rotties are my favourite. I hope to get one when I retire. Am delighted to see rotties and great Dane’s in local dog friendly places.

At leads the dog’s were there to clean up.

This place used to be interesting but I hardly bother now. It’s just dogs, trans, parking and surrogacy on repeat with the same outrage in different words. Yawnfest.

Blackbutler86 · 26/04/2023 14:12

I don’t like it either and I say that as someone who owns 8 dogs.

Teateaandmoretea · 26/04/2023 14:12

@Endlesssummer2022 and if a thread ever is vaguely interesting it gets deleted.

Hongkongsuey · 26/04/2023 14:13

The local pub decided to ban dogs. Cue loads of Facebook posts saying they’re boycotting, that they should be allowed, that the landlord deserves to go out of business…a really nasty witch hunt. I’m a dog lover-haven’t got one now since my boy was PTS. My working hours are too long now-but couldn’t believe it. Why not just leave the dog at home when you go out? There’s definitely a different vibe to dog ownership now even in the last few years. People treating dogs like humans, having to take them everywhere and throwing tantrums if other people don’t care for their precious fur babies.

Strawberrypicnic · 26/04/2023 14:16

Aside from pubs and some cafes I don't think that that many indoor places allow dogs. I've noticed this specifically since getting a dog, as we don't have as many choices of things to do on rainy days (not that I'm complaining, we were aware of that when we got him). No galleries, museums, cinema, shops, supermarkets, restaurants or bars. There are even some outdoor places that dogs aren't allowed, like Kew Garden. (I don't disagree with any of this btw.) I do agree that in the places where dogs are allowed, they should be better under control and I say that as a dog owner who always has their dog leashed around people.

Runaway0 · 26/04/2023 14:16

KimberleyClark · 26/04/2023 13:47

I’ve never had dogs running around me in dog friendly places. Had plenty of kids doing that though.

You can't leave young human DC at home safeguarding 101 you can leave a dog at home though. Dogs are not humans.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/04/2023 14:17

I don’t have a dog, but I’d choose a dog-friendly cafe or pub over a no-dogs one any day. And seeing them in shops doesn’t bother me one bit. 🐶

Cafes probably calculate the costs/ profits from regular clientele and judge it on that.
Regular dog walkers buying hot food/ drinks after their dog walk v 3 mums with buggys buying a coffee while feeding Alfie, Ava and Harvey a pack wotsits from their snack box..if our local cafes are anything to go by.
Dog avoiders need to patronise their local shops/ cafes and spend money, and then the businesses will respond.

We holiday on this country with our dog, we use cafes with outdoor seating as she is a big furball and I don't expect shops/ cafes to have to sweep up after us. Judging by the state of cafes after a family with small children have been in, maybe parents need to think about how they leave cafes.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/04/2023 14:24

The last time I was in Peter Jones I was very surprised to see people in there with their pet dogs as opposed to guide/care dogs. One had weed in linens and a other had cut itself in hardware on broken glass. The staff were preoccupied with doggy issues rather than serving.

It's unacceptable.
