to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

The vast majority of dog owners I've ever encountered are considerate to the point of being apologetic that their dog exists

Yes, same here.

Wah wah wah, dog haters, why do you hate dogs, dogs are my CHILDREN so much nicer than ACTUAL children etc.

YANBU OP.

Fucking seriously get a grip 🤦🏻‍♀️

RampantIvy · 28/04/2023 10:35

In a nutshell, no-one wants to endure badly behaved children, adults or dogs in public.

Almost all the reasons anti-dog people give for not wanting dogs in public places apply equally to children.

I would say to humans, not just children. I don’t want to deal with a loud, messy human regardless of age nor do I want to deal with a loud, over-friendly dogs.

As long as both sides are being considerate, I’m good, but I will move if there’s a dog and we’re in an enclosed space because they’re currently one of my trigger smells for nausea as is cigarette smoke.

Thank god we've got yet another anti dog thread, it takes the hate away from the cyclists!

But then you get the cyclists, with their dogs running beside them.

QueefQueen80s · 28/04/2023 10:49

These places have to do what they need to do to attract customers these days and a huge amount of people own dogs and want to take them places.

ohdamnitjanet · 27/04/2023 20:53

I used to work in a deli / cafe that allowed dogs and it got on my bloody nerves, noisy, dirty, in the way, snappy messy and slobbery. And I have had dogs in the past before anyone says I hate dogs, but a workplace with food is not an appropriate place for them.

Yes, this. Some dogs (and their owners!) and well-behaved and under control, but not all.

EthicalNonMahogany · 28/04/2023 06:52

It’s speciesist to exclude dogs generally.

It really is. I want to eat at restaurants that are inclusive and welcoming to all, goddamit.

I want to check the kitchen to make sure they are friendly to rats, and cockroaches, and I need an open window so pigeons can come in easily and enjoy a pile of rotting bread with me at my table. And please ensure there's sugar on the floor for the ants.

😁😁
Exactly
If someone let their pet rat, snake or tartantuala loose in a restaurant people would be hysterical

Lemondrizzlerain · 28/04/2023 13:18

I like dogs but I don't own one.

There was an office dog trend post covid but I'm beginning to notice its phasing out and more dogs are being left at home / rehomed.

123Sharon · 28/04/2023 13:23

I only go to dog friendly places just like people with kids go to kid friendly places. I think it’s disgusting anyone has a problem with it. Dog owners have a decent disposable income especially ones like me who choose not to breed kids. It’s a good economic decision for businesses to accept dogs.

Disgusting? Bit strong!

123Sharon · 28/04/2023 13:38

I don’t think it’s strong enough. How dare anyone say that. I don’t criticise people’s children.

That's a shame

I was in my local cafe and a huge (well behaved) dog (Beethoven like) was at a nearby table. The dog shook itself in that way dogs usually do, and slabbers from its mouth went all over the nearby tables and into peoples food. It put me off my own food and we left.

for me, dogs are lovely but should not be where people are eating for this very reason.

I don't blame you and I would have done the same, I would have also left if a dog had defecated in the premises as described by a previous poster.
Did you leave without paying? Did the owner notice?

WalkingAwayNow · 28/04/2023 14:19

It’s amusing that many dog-owners’ only defence is ‘but but but children’ ;-)
They have no way to defend the fact they can’t control their dirty mutts so hit out at kids instead. That’s their only ‘argument’. Very telling.

EVEN LOUDER FOR THE SMUGGOS AT THE FRONT:

YES 👏THEY 👏BLOODY 👏 WELL 👏 ARE!! 😂(Comparable - not necessarily 'better')

I mean, they literally are!! Kids are loud, sticky, don't shut-up, think they're the centre of everything.... Last week I was at an event that was supposed to be a lovely immersive art exhibit and it was totally fooked by 3 under-10s treating it as a playground. Parents doing nothing at all to control them. I mean, surely, SURELY, you can see that they absolutely are vaguely comparable in annoyingness?!

I think it's daft how many places they're allowed but, as both a parent and dog owner - they are SO SIMILAR!! Only difference is I generally can't tolerate other peoples' children as well as I love tolerate other peoples' dogs.

I mean, this is no great political debate, but given the choice between walking into a cafe with 10 dogs or 10 kids I would pick the dogs every time.

‘Last week I was at an event that was supposed to be a lovely immersive art exhibit and it was totally fooked by 3 under-10s treating it as a playground’

If you posted that in isolation, I would say that the parents were awful for letting those kids run riot. It ruined it for others and is unacceptable. They should have been kicked out, and as a parent, I can’t abide indulgent parents who let their children behave like this.

I wouldn’t use the argument that dogs are worse. So why do dog-owners always bring up kids on these threads?

Bloopsie · 28/04/2023 14:31

Blossomtoes · 28/04/2023 07:57

We don’t have life insurance because we don’t have a mortgage or children under 18 so what would be the point? We do, however, have pet insurance because vets bills can easily run into thousands and it includes £1 million cover for any damage she might do to other people or their belongings. Sensible no? So I’m not sure why you’re laughing.

Even if your kids are over 18 i would think money put into life insurance, rhat can be passed onto your children if husband dosent need, is worth more than a dog whos life expetancy at best is 13,vet bills can be kept down if you dont let your vet milk you and convince you an elderly dog with cancer after thousands of pounds worth of treatment will be a spring chicken again. Its only in the uk people torture dogs pay thousands upon thousands to drag out animals life extra few months or miserable years rather than put the animal down and not have it suffer.

This. Every time
There are plenty of unruly child threads.
It is a completely different topic. Do they think you must have one or another.

Thesharkradar · 28/04/2023 14:42

Because in their minds the dog is equivalent to a human child so they feel that the best analogy for their dog is a human child.

RampantIvy · 28/04/2023 14:46

Plenty of dog owners have children as well. Where are they on this thread?

Runaway0 · 28/04/2023 14:47

The rise of anthropomorphism is to blame. A dog has it's own unique needs it's not a fur baby to be dragged along wherever you want. I predict a massive rise in aggressive dogs because lonely people are projecting their issues onto dogs.
