to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

oh no, what did people do?

The owners cleared it up with help from the staff, but it put me off my food somewhat

brunettemic · 27/04/2023 20:03

I sort of get your point but to someone who doesn’t have kids (not me) it’s not that different to kids being allowed anywhere and everywhere and to be honest there’s a lot of dogs out there that are far better behaved than the feral kids you see running around in places. I know pre kids we would often make say a restaurant choice based on likelihood of kids being there.

It’s ill-thought because once it’s allowed it can get out of hand very easily.

No one would mind one small dog sleeping under a table, but what about 5-10 dogs milling about/yapping/tripping up a waiter/getting sick on the floor?

I mean, you could say that about anyone that’s let into the venue 🤣

CatA27 · 27/04/2023 20:40

I love dogs, have 2 of my own but don't like them inside places. Pets at home, fair enough but other than that no. And especially not places that are serving food.

Anon1368 · 27/04/2023 20:48

Dh's work allow staff to bring dogs in. He is not keen on dogs as he has been bitten several times in the past, just walking down the road. I do think it's a bit much. He says they fight sometimes.

ohdamnitjanet · 27/04/2023 20:53

I used to work in a deli / cafe that allowed dogs and it got on my bloody nerves, noisy, dirty, in the way, snappy messy and slobbery. And I have had dogs in the past before anyone says I hate dogs, but a workplace with food is not an appropriate place for them.

MegaPixie09 · 27/04/2023 21:04

I love it! Take my dog with me everywhere I can! Went to a dog friendly restaurant the other day and they asked if she wanted a seat at the table and bought her out a bowl of fish.

XenoBitch · 27/04/2023 21:38

Because it makes business sense.
If you don't like it, don't go in dog friendly places.

YES YES YES!

Whyisitsosohard · 27/04/2023 23:40

I love dogs but I have to agree with office dogs being an absolute liability. I know several people with real phobias who are expected to cop it even though they've got a genuine fear due to being attacked by dogs as children. It's also massively disruptive with the barking and unhygienic as they're never taken out regularly enough.

Whyisitsosohard · 27/04/2023 23:44

Also some posters seem to forget what it's like for small children to come face to face with dogs bigger than them. My toddler was terrified of a jumpy Samoyed (in a lead to be fair) and the owner just kept saying oh she's very friendly.

Most things are scary to small kids at some point. Doesn't mean it should all be banned.

EthicalNonMahogany · 28/04/2023 06:52

It’s speciesist to exclude dogs generally.

It really is. I want to eat at restaurants that are inclusive and welcoming to all, goddamit.

I want to check the kitchen to make sure they are friendly to rats, and cockroaches, and I need an open window so pigeons can come in easily and enjoy a pile of rotting bread with me at my table. And please ensure there's sugar on the floor for the ants.

Dibbydoos · 28/04/2023 07:04

I wouldn't dream of taking my dogs with me, not even my littlest who is a perfectly well behaved lap dog.

It's unhygienic and who knows what could happen.

Privileged dog owners 🙄

FrenchFancie · 28/04/2023 07:04

Not keen on dogs in cafes to be honest, after DD was nipped by a little white terrier type thing when she was 3. The owner told me off for walking past to the toilet, apparently I should have known her shitty little terrier couldn’t be trusted.

Shes also asthmatic and doesn’t do well with dog hair, but I know the dog lovers out there will tell me that’s just our problem to deal with….

Foodieasfuck · 28/04/2023 07:11

YANBU! I don’t own a dog. I don’t dislike them either.
I am sick of being sniffed in cafes etc. oh she’s very friendly, she won’t hurt you. Drives me mad. I don’t want to touch your dog and eat my food!
Dogs sat on chairs in pubs. I’ve even seen one with paws on a table.
They’re taking over!

sandgrown · 28/04/2023 07:17

I went in Cafe Nero yesterday and had to negotiate about six dogs laid on the floor to get out with my coffees. I have a dog and I love him but we are not joined at the hip. I wouldn’t dream of taking him inside anywhere serving food and drink.

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 28/04/2023 07:18

Dogs shouldn't be in shops full stop.
I'm beginning to be less tolerant & almost at a point of disliking dogs because of entitled people thinking their dog can do whatever they want.
My retort now to anyone who says their dog is friendly is "I'm not, and I bite"
YOU wanted the furry slobbery thing so keep it with YOU!

its a bizarre british thing where people seem to care more for dogs than they do for their spouses or kids, best one is when someone pays 40 a month for an insurance for a dog and u ask how much do you pay for your own/partners life insurance- 0 lol

Hongkongsuey · 28/04/2023 07:35

Comparing dogs to children is ridiculous-children are people and dogs are animals. So many dog behaviour problems are caused by people treating them as if they’re human rather than dogs.

We don’t have life insurance because we don’t have a mortgage or children under 18 so what would be the point? We do, however, have pet insurance because vets bills can easily run into thousands and it includes £1 million cover for any damage she might do to other people or their belongings. Sensible no? So I’m not sure why you’re laughing.

Fencebreaker · 28/04/2023 08:06

Utterly fed up of dogs being everywhere too.

At my youngest DC school the head brings in his dog EVERY DAY!
