to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

Although I do think it would be unreasonable to take one to a toddler group.

I suspect the reason why many hate dogs is because they know that a far bigger segment of the general public will stop and fuss over a dog but not their child. It’s jealousy, basically.

I work with someone who gets cross a lot about how nobody will stop and ask about or fuss over her “gorgeous bundle” but they will over “some random mutt”.

As for care homes etc. I’m hoping for more for your kids than to do that job - I hope that care homes no longer exist and there’ll be a way to end your own life with dignity when you get to the point where someone would have to wipe your arse for you. Would also stop the endless nonsense of “you must tolerate my obnoxious sticky children because they’ll be wiping your bum one day” or whatever.

‘I suspect the reason why many hate dogs is because they know that a far bigger segment of the general public will stop and fuss over a dog but not their child. It’s jealousy, basically’

Lol. What a desperate reach. Thanks for the laugh though.

Your doggy-addled brain cannot accept the more ordinary reasons for not liking dogs so you invented this one. Ha, nice try though; at least it’s inventive. 👏

AlwaysGinPlease · 27/04/2023 14:09

Agreed. Had dogs my whole life, frequented many a Dog friendly establishment many times over the years and I have NEVER seen any such nonsense happening as reported by the Anti Dog Brigade! Ever!

I have however seen countless badly behaved children...

Do you not think there are more incompetent dog-owners now than before?

Why do you think dog-owners/lovers are also complaining here about the increasing problems caused by dogs? What’s their agenda?

AskMeMore · 27/04/2023 15:27

@fitzwilliamdarcy So anyone disabled who needs their arse wiped should be killed?

fitzwilliamdarcy · 27/04/2023 16:18

@WalkingAwayNow I don’t like dogs, so I don’t have an addled brain, but go off I guess.

@AskMeMore Yes because that’s exactly what I said. 🙄

fitzwilliamdarcy · 27/04/2023 16:22

@AskMeMore It’s actually really wound me up how you’ve twisted my words - there is quite clearly a difference between care homes (where many people have no quality of life) and caters for people with disabilities, where assistance is needed to help someone achieve quality of life and dignity. You know this but for whatever reason have tried to insinuate that I’m promoting eugenics, for reasons best known to you.

AskMeMore · 27/04/2023 16:30

@fitzwilliamdarcy I did not see that. Plenty of younger people with disabilities are in care homes. Do you mean only people 90 plus? 80 plus? Any adult in a care home?

RampantIvy · 27/04/2023 16:39

Mumsnet really hates dogs🙄
don't go.to.places that allow dogs if it's a problem for you.

IMO it's a pretty even split @x2boys
Dog lovers think that mumsnet hates dogs. I don't mind them.

I don't have a problem with anyone bringing a well trained dog to anywhere I have chosen to go. I can anticipate that if a place gets too full of lots of badly behaved dogs then pandemonium will follow.

Cake is far more of a danger in a cafe. Mine once got hold of two large slices of homemade carrot cake (with sultanas) and gobbled the lot. That was an expensive vet bill.

Isn't that a risk that all dog owners have to anticipate when taking their dogs into a cafe?

I think that as fewer and fewer places ban dogs it does become more difficult for people who are allergic to dogs or who are dog phobic. Yoy then reach a point where dog allergic and dog phobic people are afraid to leave the house. There needs to be some balance.

I saw a large dog pee on some maxi dresses in M&S not long ago. The owner didn't notice, but I pointed it out to the staff. Disgusting.

I saw this sign on a rug stall in Ely last year @NeverTrustAPoliceman

I mean voluntary euthanasia. Where people can choose for themselves whether they do not have quality of life and no longer wish to be alive. I am a huge advocate for that policy (and would take advantage of it, myself).

In hindsight I should not have said I hope that care homes no longer exist. That is my own prejudice as I’ve seen dreadful things happen in them, but clearly there will continue to be a need for them and in that case I hope that they are improved so that they enrich the lives of those who reside there (rather than the opposite, which is my experience).

AlwaysGinPlease · 27/04/2023 17:14

All this frothing makes me even happier to take my (incredibly well behaved) dogs to all the usual places. Happy in the knowledge that it's pissing some loon dog hater off . I didn't ever think like this but all these anti dog people are making me think that way.

“It's selfish dragging your dog along wherever you want to “

agrree, most at far happier at home in peace.

DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon · 27/04/2023 17:22

I would much rather encounter dogs whilst out and about than miserable sour faced humans anyday.

dollybird · 27/04/2023 17:29

When you're sitting in a pub eating your lunch, and a dog at the next table has a crap on the floor, you know it's gone too far.

thecrispfiend · 27/04/2023 17:33

I don't get this obsession with dogs... we always had a dog growing up but never a big deal made of it. Now I have colleagues wanting to put their dogs on teams calls and show me pictures of them some even have their own social media pages. The people that are batty over their dogs seem to mainly be either people who are child free by choice or people whose kids have flown the nest. I'm glad the dogs bring happiness but I can't get too excited about them really. Businesses allow them in because it makes good business sense I suppose with so many households owning a dog now

Dangerous, unhygienic animals with entitled owners. YANBU.

Don't be so ridiculous and judgemental.

Can you really not get that some people just don't like dogs? Why are they loons because they dislike dogs?

I do like dogs, and I like cats even more, but I can totally understand that some people would like to be in a dog free space. And the answer isn't just stay at home.

There is a lot of frothing by the dog lovers on this thread BTW.

oh no, what did people do?

AlwaysGinPlease · 27/04/2023 18:15

@RampantIvy

Yes of course I do. But they're moaning in this and the other hundred anti dog threads about establishments that allow dogs! They should just go elsewhere. There are still options that are not dog friendly.

Also there are some posters talking about poisoning sausages , feeding them toxic foods. THEY are the loons.

Adding my agreement here.

I think a lit of these threads are made up.

Wethwrspoons don't allow dogs so I suggest all of you who can't find a dog free pub/ cafe, check out your local Spoons.

Mind you Spoons is another place Mumsnet folk hate !

Jitterybugs · 26/04/2023 13:53

When they pant or shake, they create a cloud of bacteria, mould spores and dander. They also leave traces of feces behind when they sit on furniture.

Youve just described my ex 🤣

Spat me tea out!

😂

Yeeees . . . . might not have been an accident . . . Grin

Blackbutler86 · 26/04/2023 14:12

I don’t like it either and I say that as someone who owns 8 dogs.

Oooh!

What breed/s?

(We had 4 westies, 2 yorkies, a staffie and a great dane at one time - it was the pinnacle of my dog-loving life. Nice to meet someone as crackers as we are.)

Runaway0 · 27/04/2023 19:08

The thing is actually responsible dog people which prior to the pandemic are in the majority are great. They realise that their dog is an animal with its own unique needs and didn't drag them round human centred places. My cat who is bengal cross has excellent recall and follows me around outside I won't be bringing him out to restaurants as he's a cat.
The owners now have only got a dog because they now wfh, dogs need good training and socialisation. They got the dog to slot into their lives and not the other way round.

I would like a certain dog but I realise my lifestyle things i want to do is not compatible with responsibile dog ownership and I wouldn't want that for the dog.
