to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

THIS!!!!!

My Mum has always said "NEVER trust ANYONE who isn't an animal lover - there's something not quite right with them up here (points to head). They're not to be trusted"

You can be cautious about animals in certain settings and still love animals. Or are you the only one who gets to decide animal lover/hater?

Tinybrother · 26/04/2023 21:10

MN isn’t going to have a dog haterz section any more than they are going to have a child haterz section

missmollygreen · 26/04/2023 21:12

YABU, dogs are better then people

elephantmarchingin · 26/04/2023 21:13

I honestly get so confused about the dogs are so unhygienic and dirty comments.

How do you think us dog owners cope. If they were that bad for human health all dog owners would die early and be consistently sick!

Ffs is it really necessary to be so bloody rude @Chasingadvice? You might smell of roses but your attitude stinks. If you represent high standards I don’t want them.

Why do you assume that? Because I object to your rudeness? In fact I smell of Portrait of a Lady as does my dog.

I’ve got a ‘yappy little bastard’ and he really is friendly…he’s never even done the mouthing thing that puppies do let alone bite. He’s just anxious and not the brightest spark! A lot of people can’t read dog language and can’t tell the difference between a normal bark and a snarly bark with teeth.

That said, I rarely take him in shops/cafes because it can be embarrassing and occasionally someone will over-react and not take it in good humour, and act as if he’s an XL Bully and not a bichon frise.

I don't want to know the different types of barks. That's the thing. I don't want to hear the horrible barking, yapping, howling, yelping, irritating noises of dogs. Perhaps I have dog misophonia, but they drive me absolutely mad.

You think reacting to a snarling beast is an overreaction. I say it's perfectly reasonable to react to a beast growling, when it has sharp fangs and looks rabid.

It's true though sadly isn't it. A particular friend of mine really stinks of dog, especially her coats and jumpers. She does clean her house but the smell still hits you as soon as you walk in.

Totally agree. Was stood at a gig last week and a dog owner came and stood next to me and I was nearly sick due to him being so close,

Also remember trying to buy a second hand car and it reeked of dog. The salesman said it would be cleaned but it very obviously had been but that reek just doesn't go.

I work in a visitor attraction that welcomes dogs. The dogs are all fine - one or two of the owners l could definitely live without, though ... There is one loon who insists her constantly-bouncing-off-the-walls pupper is an assistance dog in training and drags it into all the dog-free areas where it flattens things and licks people who don't want to be licked. The dogs is just being a dog but the owner seems to get some weird buzz out of arguing with people who object - l don't know how long actual assistance dogs take to train but she's been coming with the same mad hound for years and years!

I live in Spain. Dogs are welcomed everywhere in shops , restaurants libraries etc
There are zero issues. Brits are so uptight

And this is why I need to move there.

Takes 2 years to train an assistance dog.

WalkingAwayNow · 26/04/2023 22:06

The worst smell in the world for me is wet dog. It makes me retch. And I have worked all my life in a hospital and smelt some rank stuff and am pretty tolerant of odours!

Grendalsmum · 26/04/2023 22:09

@vodkaredbullgirl 😂l think it's about ready for a refresher course then, lovely dog, just SO full of beans! And the owner is the most complain-y person l've ever come across and l've been in retail for years so that's saying something!

Oh come on really, dog smells worse than all the crap you smell at hospital

@Elphame Total nonsense and very dangerous advice! Even a tiny amount of chocolate could kill a dog of any size.

And yes, of course there's chocolate in chocolate bars. Please don't make stuff up

Utter rubbish - you are thinking of grapes.

My 10kg dogs would not be affected by a small bar of milk chocolate.

@Elphame you shouldn't have dogs if you think ANY chocolate is ok and you don't know raisins, currants etc are dangerous not just bloody grapes

Good grief! I do not feed my dog chocolates but I know perfectly well that a small amount is safe provided it's not the dark variety. Do some proper research and don't believe the hysteria on the internet.

And if you'd bothered to read my previous posts you'd have noticed that I said my dog eating slices of carrot cake which contained sultanas resulted in a big vet bill so yes - I am actually well aware that dried forms of grapes are potentially hazardous for SOME dogs. There are plenty who are actually fine with grapes but unfortunately no way to tell in advance which is why my cake scoffing little thief ended up at the emergency vet on a Sunday afternoon!
