to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

I live in Germany. Both dogs and children are welcome pretty much everywhere and it is not a problem. I read these threads and do wonder why the U.K. has such an issue with this (genuinely wondering, not being arsey). It's a total non-issue here. Nobody bats an eyelid, neither cause any disruptions or scenes or anything.

Well behaved children and dogs fine bouncy mutts that send my autistic son into a squealing frenzy NOT fine a cheery "it's OK he is friendly" shout does nothing to help me when he goes off and I'm left saying get your dog back (but he is FRIENDLY) ds ISNT CALL THE DOG BACK

Apparently if he hits one its all my fault for having him in public

Again, who will be wiping your bum when your in a care home? Someone's kid possibly. Such a shame humans can't be beamed down well adjusted to life at 40 isn't it?

Don’t rise to it. The annoying parents of annoying toddlers and babies spend more money than that poster, so the venues value their custom more. If people want more venues which satisfy their particular preferences they need to put their hands in their pockets more and encourage likeminded people to do the same.

WingingItSince1973 · 26/04/2023 18:45

I love dogs. We have one we did have two but she sadly died end last year. Anyway! I don't mind dogs in places as long as they are well behaved and not worrying anyone. I wouldn't take my dog inside shops as I would worry she would pee up things! That's just not nice for those coming in after me. The most dog friendly place we've found is Yorkshire and it was such a breath of fresh air but then again we are responsible dog owners and I would keep her by our feet lying down if we were in a cafe

DyslexicPoster · 26/04/2023 18:53

I'm not going take anything said on here very seriously 😄 However the child haters problems would forever be resolved if humans was beamed down after 40 and then our species could be dead in 40 years. Problems with kids sorted! Reading MN makes me think that would only be a positive.....

If I don't want to eat around kids or dogs I choose wisely. Much easier in the real world. I had a dog for 16 years. I have 4 kids. Doesn't mean I want to spend 24/7 with either but I repeat, MN is totally batshit.

Oh, yes please.

That’s a bloody fantastic idea! Please MN, please do this.

WalkingAwayNow · 26/04/2023 19:06

People need to look after their kids and their dogs properly.

I won’t defend anyone letting their toddler run riot in a pub. I believe that some parents allow their kids to do so. They are idiots and crap parents.

Odd that so many dog owners however think it’s ok for their dogs to jump up at strangers (he’s being friendly!) and/or don’t believe that dogs ever ruin picnics or slobber over strangers. Strange denial.

This is what I worry about they say the dogs friendly and I say so and so doesn't like dogs jumping up they still don't recall. I'm worried they will literally throw kick the dog or worse could be avoided if they just keep it on a fecking lead. It's common sense not to let your dog bound up to and jump on a unassuming disabled person?

TeenLifeMum · 26/04/2023 17:51

@DarkForces my dog was most confused when I walked by the pub entrance and into the country park last Saturday. We’ve not been in there that much but the landlord gives him treats and ice cream and it’s full of spaniels. It’s hugely dog friendly and very busy so I don’t think they lose a lot of trade due to fear of dogs.

You walked past a dog friendly pub? Reported for animal cruelty!

You’re right. North Yorkshire is dog heaven. We spent a lot of our holidays there now because our dog’s so welcome there.

I’ll have to get a harness for my cat now that it’s become the norm to take your pet everywhere you go!

Good idea! I think i'll take my pet snake out for a good meal, maybe go wilkos after for a slither around. 🐍 Snakes are better than people, especially kids!

2X4B523P · 26/04/2023 19:53

@Irequireausername

Sounds fun! Pity I don’t have tarantulas anymore, taking them shopping could have been interesting!

Dangerous, unhygienic animals with entitled owners. YANBU.

How dare you tar all dog owners with your ridiculous & untrue insult!!!

SchoolTripDrama · 26/04/2023 20:03

@Chasingadvice So you genuinely believe that dirt from dirty dogs is going to fly across the room and make a beeline for your meal? Why?

MNHQ - time for a separate section for the rabid dog haters please.

THIS!!!!!

My Mum has always said "NEVER trust ANYONE who isn't an animal lover - there's something not quite right with them up here (points to head). They're not to be trusted"

SchoolTripDrama · 26/04/2023 20:09

@Elphame Total nonsense and very dangerous advice! Even a tiny amount of chocolate could kill a dog of any size.

And yes, of course there's chocolate in chocolate bars. Please don't make stuff up

Well a dog is hardly a good choice for the more hygienic person so I can see where she is coming from. I wouldn't want to go out smelling every day.

That’s such a cliched silly little comment. So you wouldn’t trust say a great teacher or doctor just because they didn’t like dogs? What a stupid thing to say.

I love animals. I love my cat, my mums dogs and my friends dog. I don’t love sitting in a cafe trying to enjoy something to eat with a random dog barking constantly like the last time I was in a garden centre cafe. I don’t love it when I’m with a young man with severe autism and petrified of dogs, whom I’m a carer for, have a dog off the lead running up to us and the owner couldn’t care less.

More dogs as people have lost the skills to communicate with other human beings
So more selfish owners
Companies want more business so cater to dog owners.

Yes it’s gross going to cafes and having to avoid dogs; most places accept them these days. This is London so I can only imagine what it’s like rurally.

I stay quiet and do nothing. It’s a business decision. Just hope that the bad owners with dirty inquisitive licky mutts don’t sit near me. We have to accept this now.

You are so right.

They seem incapable of being considerate of other human beings. That's probably my they anthropomorphise their dogs- lack of ability to form or human relationships. Must be lonely.

Chasingadvice · 26/04/2023 20:43

@Blossomtoes gross

I live in Spain. Dogs are welcomed everywhere in shops , restaurants libraries etc
There are zero issues. Brits are so uptight
