to be alarmed that more and more places are allowing dogs?

Just went to Wilko recently who had a sign up saying all dogs welcome. Went to a bistro and they allowed dogs too. Had lunch listening to small yappy dogs.

Since when did it become acceptable to allow dogs into shops and food places?

I can't find Runaway0 original comment but my son used to be in a specialist residential school for autistic children. Some of the staff were able to bring they're dog's in. As long as they were well behaved weren't the type to jump up at people, run off or bark a lot. They got to walk the dogs on the on site wood's with the staff. My son used to have a fear of dog's. But being around them made him more at ease. He's still not a dog person but he will tolerate them now. He prefers farm animals sheep and alpacas being his favourite and rabbits and guinea pigs which we have always had as pet's.

@DarkForces my dog was most confused when I walked by the pub entrance and into the country park last Saturday. We’ve not been in there that much but the landlord gives him treats and ice cream and it’s full of spaniels. It’s hugely dog friendly and very busy so I don’t think they lose a lot of trade due to fear of dogs.

I live in Germany. Both dogs and children are welcome pretty much everywhere and it is not a problem. I read these threads and do wonder why the U.K. has such an issue with this (genuinely wondering, not being arsey). It's a total non-issue here. Nobody bats an eyelid, neither cause any disruptions or scenes or anything.

TeenLifeMum · 26/04/2023 17:56

@thelongroad in real life I’ve never come across this attitude outside mn. We had therapy dogs at both primary and secondary including the autism unit but on mn autism gets used as a reason for no dogs. It’s an odd place removed from my reality sometimes.

In real life no one cares, and if they do they walk in to an establishment see 'offending' dog and then leave to go somewhere else. No one really cares.

I'd much rather a dog than a crying whinging toddler anyway 😂

Actually we have therapy animals who are excellently trained. A huge dog slobbering and jumping up on someone outside is not the same!! I wasn't scared for the persons safety I was scared for the dog actually. The dog owner would be the first to complain if the person lashed out and injured the dog. Keep the dog on the lead all sorted it's hospital grounds anyway but some people have decided its a dog walking spot!

TeenLifeMum · 26/04/2023 18:05

@Runaway0 i agree and dislike the owners of badly behaved dogs but don’t really come across them in the pubs and cafes I have been in (sometimes with my dog and other times without). Dogs usually just flop by the table. In the same way you might encounter a rude adult, rude adults have rude dogs but that’s not the norm.

Teateaandmoretea · 26/04/2023 17:24

Would it have been any better if there were small kids rushing around freely, crawling under tables and snatching food from plates?

Ah yes these mythical MN restaurants full of rampaging toddlers.

You're so right.

The mythical out of control children that jump up on people, slobber over them and bark uncontrollably while often showing shredding. Spreading their arselicking germs everywhere.

Dogs absolutely have more rights than human children to be in human facilities such as cafes and shops, don't you know?

I assume (most) of these dog fanatics have them as replacement children and project a lot of their issues on their mutts.

I live in a region known for it’s scenery, which means that all the pubs I can think of locally are dog friendly. Our regular place for a weekend pub meal is right near a caravan park, so it’s usual for there to be multiple dogs under the tables.
I have never once seen any of the above happening, no soiling, no milling, and definitely no getting sick!

Exactly. All these posts would suggest bars and cafes are chock full of drooling, shitting, pissing, snarling dogs🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Anytime I've taken my wee furry bestie into the pub, he lies under the table and accepts all the treats from passing strangers (he is exceptionally cute....ok I'm biased🤣🤣). As do all the other dogs I see out and about in dog friendly venues. The bottom line is dog friendly clearly equals more punters, more profit. So suck it up or stay in😀

Tinybrother · 26/04/2023 18:11

“The bottom line is dog friendly clearly equals more punters, more profit. So suck it up or stay in”

that was more or less my comment on the last of the many threads moaning about children in pubs

Dangerous, unhygienic animals with entitled owners. YANBU.

This!

So the experiences of others doesn't count then?

WalkingAwayNow · 26/04/2023 18:21

More dogs as people have lost the skills to communicate with other human beings
So more selfish owners
Companies want more business so cater to dog owners.

Yes it’s gross going to cafes and having to avoid dogs; most places accept them these days. This is London so I can only imagine what it’s like rurally.

I stay quiet and do nothing. It’s a business decision. Just hope that the bad owners with dirty inquisitive licky mutts don’t sit near me. We have to accept this now.

I see a lot of dog owners saying that they prefer dogs to humans. They clearly don’t know how to speak to humans so use dogs to satisfy their loneliness. And then deify them. It’s sad for them really.

Are you a child? Did you stick your tongue out as you typed that?

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/04/2023 18:25

I would rather leave my dogs at home, than take them to the shops or cafe.

Again, who will be wiping your bum when your in a care home? Someone's kid possibly. Such a shame humans can't be beamed down well adjusted to life at 40 isn't it?
