Just wondering if anyone can help me with this.. I was reading and I suddenly realised my vision was blotchy and coloured. Like when you stare at a light for too long and try to look away and you can still see coloured splodges in your vision. It’s like that, but I didn’t look at a light and it’s not going away. Even typing this is hard as when I’m typing one word I can’t fully see what I’m reading because of the coloured splodges. Like when I look at the world splodges I. Can see half of it but not the other half because everything looks coloured and splodgey. I went off my phone, stopped reading and let me eyes relax but it’s not going away and it’s getting annoying. Does anyone else have this and have any advice? It’s not blurry at all it’s just the coloured splodges but they’re not black like floaters, I can’t really focus on them but it’s in both eyes and it feels like I’ve been staring at a lightbulb but I haven’t

this post took me so long to type out word by wore but does anyone have any advice please because this is absolutely horrible x

even when I’m looking at what I just typed when I look at the word horrible I can’t see half of it I can only see horrib and that’s it and not the x either unless I move my eyes but then I can’t see other things

Has this come on suddenly tonight?

If so, you need to call 111 for advice.

matisses6fingers · 26/04/2023 01:33

Hi op I get this before a migraine. I can only see half of people’s faces, hands go numb and sometimes I see flashing lights and stars.

if you’re worried though then phone 111

i think so, I noticed it when I was reading and I blinked hard a few times thinking I had accidentally looked at the light but it didn’t go away then I realised it was obstructing my vision. As I’m typing this I can see one particular splodeg (there’s lots) and it’s sort of flickering and moving and I think it’s blueish in colour and it’s just to the side of my central vision which is why I can only see part of a line or a word because it’s sort of blocking it

Sounds like a cluster migraine to me. I tend to get them if I exercise on insufficient hydration, but an Ibuprofen and a nap seems to sort them out.

Biscuitandacuppa · 26/04/2023 01:34

Have you ever had a migraine? You can just get visual aura migraines with no head pain, and sometimes the head pain develops later. Any other symptoms? Dizziness, numbness etc? Ring 111 if you are worried.

Oh gosh, I’m wondering if that’s what this is. I’ve head off people getting rainbows before a migraine but I’ve never had it before. It’s really unpleasant and whatever it is I just want it to stop

Ps Google “focal migraines” or “migraine with aura”

its shit OP. Hope you feel better soon

Tarkan · 26/04/2023 01:34

I get this at times, often caused by a sudden bright light in my eyes or flashing lights (car headlights and lots of decorations at Christmas is hell for me). It's a form of migraine for me. I don't get pain, just the vision issues.

Please still get checked out though, anything suddenly different really should be checked by a medical professional. Flowers

Saoirse82 · 26/04/2023 01:36

It sounds like a migraine with aura. I get mine without the pain. So no actual headache, just the aura. Which is weird because I get migraines with just the pain.

When I had my first aura I was totally freaked out like you.

Treesoutsidemywindow · 26/04/2023 01:37

Definitely sounds like the onset of a migraine to me. The first one I ever had started off just how you're describing, it took a while for the headache to come on. I'd start by taking some paracetamol and going to bed OP, then if it's not better by morning, I'd get it checked out.

Flowerpower6 · 26/04/2023 01:38

bloody hell I hadn’t realised this could be a migraine it’s absolutely horrible it’s also only to the right hand side it’s like someone has drawn a line down my vision everything on one side is fine everything on the other is moving and swirly and had coloured splodges

The best thing to do is lie down in a dark room with your eyes closed. It's scary but mine usually pass within 20 mins. I don't get pain just zigzaggy vision.

fryanddry · 26/04/2023 01:40

i dont want to tell you the wrong thing but It does sound like its an ocular migraine or a visual migraine
Ive had it before, just sit down and rest , your vision should return to normal in 30-60 minutes
See a doctor asap to get a checkup

fryanddry · 26/04/2023 01:43

does it look anything like these ?

fryanddry · 26/04/2023 01:46

mine was more like this zig zag , it was a flash in my left eye and then i was seeing zigzags ,
i couldnt see for about 30 minutes from the eye and i had to sit down
i thought i was having a stroke or something
thats why its important that you go and see a doctor to rule out anything just in case

Please help me I’m really scared
smooththecat · 26/04/2023 01:47

Hi op, I don’t think we should diagnose on here, it could be migraine but could also be other things, including something to do with the retina. You need to call the nhs number. Big hug, this is scary for you, I’ve been there.

Sleeperagent · 26/04/2023 01:47

It sounds like an ocular migraine. The exact symptoms you describe happen to me. It was very scary the first time.

Ihavehadenoughalready · 26/04/2023 01:50

It could be a detached retina, too. Prompt attention from emergency eye doctor may be warranted. Especially if this is a completely new symptom. If it's a detached retina you should be seen right away.

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/04/2023 01:52

This is how my migraines start. Within half an hour of the vision issues stopping I am flat out with appalling head pain.

EveryWitchWaybutLoose · 26/04/2023 01:54

Visual aura migraine. Get off your screens, stop reading, rest your eyes!

IHateLegDay · 26/04/2023 01:54

It sounds like a migraine with aura op.
I get them occasionally and half my vision will disappear and it's like flashy rainbow lights.

Take some paracetamol, drink lots of water, have a sugary snack and lie down xxx

Hopefullysoonfindaway · 26/04/2023 01:56

Please call 111 immediately. Very good advice about what to do if it is a migraine, but you should still get checked out as this is the first time this has happened.

Leftlegwest · 26/04/2023 01:57

Migraine with aura. I get them and they are awful. First one I had was when I was a teenager and I basically walked home from town unable to see hardly anything. I was terrified as I had no idea what was going on.

PinkButtercups · 26/04/2023 01:57

Agree phone 111. You need proper medical advice.

Same here except it was school not town.
