To wish people would stop saying 'Jesus' all the bloody time

I can't read a thread on here without someone saying "Jesus Christ" or "Jesus wept" or similar.

I'm not a prude AT all and I have no issue with people swearing but as a Christian I find it highly offensive when people throw Jesus' name round in a negative way, without a thought for others' feelings and religions.

Most people wouldn't dream of using words that were offensive to other religions so why is it acceptable when it's 'Jesus?'.

This is a genuine message to ask people to PLEASE think before they post/speak.

dirty 😂 By Jove, that’s funny.

SerendipityJane · 27/04/2023 15:44

Atheism is a lack of faith, due to the lack of evidence that supports a conclusion that there’s an all powerful dirty.

I believe it's literal meaning is "without God(s)", not "without faith". I have total faith that if I throw something up in the air then it will descend at g (10m/s^2).

And on the moon at g/6 (whatever that is).

I always come back to there being a creator, the alpha and omega.

That's just solving a big problem by inventing a bigger one.

Why?

SpeedSnap · 26/04/2023 20:06

You could very well be right. I have lots of spells of doubt, the questioning of belief in God is an occasional brief passing for me. Neither of us will know until we are dead.

What a silly thing to say!

You aint gonna know when you're dead! You're dead!

SerendipityJane · 27/04/2023 17:01

MasterBeth · 27/04/2023 16:18

Why?

Because they read it in a book and it sounded cool ?

As there is no evidence God doesn't exist, then being an athiest is a faith position also.

I think everyone is religious in some way be it the law, political ideologies etc they are in denial about it.

Thats like saying if you dont believe in the tooth fairy you cant prove its not true. Being a Theist requires faith in their being a God which is unseen and unproven. Being an Athiest requires nothing more than not believing in things that cant be proven. I can assure you I am not in denial about there being a God.

Fairislefandango · 27/04/2023 17:50

No it isn't. Why would not believing in a deity be any more a 'faith position' than not believing in any random made-up thing? The absence of belief in something is not a faith. I could tell you right now that there's an animal called a ponkhooter. They have 7 legs, 3 eyes and purple fur. I saw one in my garden yesterday. If you (quite reasonably imo) don't believe me, is that a 'faith position'? There is no more proof of the existence of the many, many deities that people have invented than there is of the ponkhooter.

Fairislefandango · 27/04/2023 18:00

Ah yes, always a reason why we must not offend Atheists!

Do you usually find atheists are easily offended? I generally find the opposite, compared with religious people. I suspect you are mistaking 'disagreeing with religious people's points in a slightly exasperated tone' for 'offended'. You couldn't possibly say anything about religion or atheism that would offend me Smile

Interesting to see the sheer rudeness of some of the people defending their right to be ignorant and offensive towards Christians!
They clearly lack the benefit of Christ’s wisdom and humility, and need to learn to “Love thy neighbour”.

The cheek of you of all people to accuse others of lack of humility and respect towards the beliefs of others.

Loads of Christians blaspheme all the time. Quite a few are on this thread. Are they being 'Ignorant and offensive to Christians'?

No wonder you think it's poppycock you have zero understanding and clearly never read the Bible.

The first miracle is at a wedding.

In revelation Jesus marries his church, the church is his bride.

A priest stands in for Jesus, so is male, hoe can a woman stand in and say "this is my body"?

There are plenty of nuns who take Holy orders.

If you have a woman stand in for Jesus it makes the marriage at the end a trans or lesbian marriage and you leave Christ out of his own church, it makes no sense.

If it's not your religion, stop imposing ignorant weird ideas on others who follow that religion.

Thankfully your batshit interpretation is going the way of the dodo, at least in the UK.

They're not doing it right.

My go to is 'Jeeeeesus Christ of Almighty God' when the young ones are wrecking my head with their usual carry on.

Botw1 · 27/04/2023 20:35

@SpeedSnap

Which God is there no evidence for?

Ontheperiphery79 · 27/04/2023 20:48

Jesus, I wish people would stop saying "bloody". I find it highly offensive, as am a Satanist and goat's blood is sacred.

TheWelshposter · 27/04/2023 21:53

I prefer "Oh my Christ", Pamela Shipman style.

But seriously, why should people stop using the word Jesus?! It's just a name.

Actually, to some extent it’s not batshit at all. Many types of spirituality have a male/female element. But this should not be confused with a physical man and woman. These are male and female energies which are very much defined within the relevant spiritual school. The above examples are based on this male:female dynamic.

However none of that stops a woman being a priest. It’s a misunderstanding of what is being said about male and female dynamics within spirituality in the Bible.

Maybe they just tend to get that way around you specifically? For some reason? Inexplicably?

Funny, that’s the way I feel about religious people (and I have met many). Joyless, vindictive, cruel, miserable, spiteful, judgmental, self-righteous, smug. They sure don’t behave like Jesus.

LBFseBrom · 28/04/2023 03:45

You're not unreasonable, it makes me cringe when I hear it. I would never dream of exclaiming something which would insult another person's faith. It's just not necessary.

I know many very lovely religious people.

The flip side is, some of the very worst people I have ever met also claim to be Christian - pretty much exactly as your describe.

Sometimes religion can be a useful tool for awful people.

People who delight like you, are having another conference.

They had their first conference just before Russia started the war. That's why we pray the Fatima prayer in the Rosary. People have walked away, that's their choice. It makes no difference to me if I am the last person in the UK believing.

We were told that there would be a great apostasy.
