To wish people would stop saying 'Jesus' all the bloody time

Sortyourlifeout · 25/04/2023 20:19

I can't read a thread on here without someone saying "Jesus Christ" or "Jesus wept" or similar.

I'm not a prude AT all and I have no issue with people swearing but as a Christian I find it highly offensive when people throw Jesus' name round in a negative way, without a thought for others' feelings and religions.

Most people wouldn't dream of using words that were offensive to other religions so why is it acceptable when it's 'Jesus?'.

This is a genuine message to ask people to PLEASE think before they post/speak.

I have yet to meet someone who isn't following some sort of religion, they may very well be in denial about it though.

The most daft religion going about at present is the DEI one that people join and do as their priestly class the HR department tells them to do right fown to changing their creed 'sustainability' 'TWAW' 'inclusion' 'diversity' in return for money and status.

You’ve never met an atheist? Majority of people I know don’t believe in any form of god and don’t follow a religion.

So morals and ethics and behaviour, you seriously are sahinb they aren't consistant, you make them up wvery day wvery time it's different? You may be in a little cult all of your own.

Your morals and ethics at work and going about your business in life, they come from your employers or UK law, I assume you follow them? UK, international law you follow?

Morals, ethics and behaviour may be referenced in religion but they aren't a religion themselves

Unfortunately holding that position of a null hypothesis doesn’t seem to preclude some Atheists from being as obnoxious as possible, as you can see on this thread. They are not benign observers. And that’s fine, people should be able to say what they want, but atheists trying to claim the moral high ground is laughable.

Whose moral high ground are atheists trying to occupy and why is it laughable?

monsteramunch · 26/04/2023 18:55

@MinervaSaidThar

You calling anyone else 'obnoxious' on this thread shows an almost impressive lack of any self awareness to be honest. Wow!

Florenz · 26/04/2023 19:00

You can't even say "Gor Blimey" because it's a euphemism for "God Blind Me".

SerendipityJane · 26/04/2023 19:00

You mean only a true messiah would deny their divinity ?

Florenz · 26/04/2023 19:01

I think "Gordon Bennett!" is a euphamism for something else as well but I can't remember what.

Equally, I've yet to meet a religious person who isn't lying to themselves in some way or another about their faith.

SerendipityJane · 26/04/2023 19:08

As if on cue.

Generally I can put up with a lot of religious bullshit until it starts to get in the way. Especially when even the most cursory study of any religion usually finds out that the religion itself is down on that kind of drama llamary.

pikuach nefesh springs to mind. I am pretty certain that Islam has exactly the same injunctions. And if not, in line with the pick'n'mix bible, maybe it should.

Funny that you object to "Jesus" but not "bloody", which as a Christian, you should know is shorthand for swearing on the Virgin's name - "By Our Lady".

PLEASE think before you post/speak such offensive words.

I try not to,swear but I don't think I think about Mary in the same way as Jesus as she is not, part of the trinity itms

That is more of a catholic perspective

NotOnMyChristianiMinecraftServer · 26/04/2023 19:15

If I am being honest I grew up around religious extremes. Very conservative. Holding very victorian ideas about sex. Complaining moaning and groaning about all the slutty women around us and the horn dog men. Going on and on about how birth control is corrupting our society. They even believed that you should not have sex WITH YOUR OWN SPOUSE. Unless you intended to have a baby. And when you’ve got all your kids you should just stop having sex.

They were very gossipy and mean when they found out a married couple was using birth control and having sex for the pure enjoyment and bonding purposes.

They didn’t see it as a bonding process at all. They just saw it as this chore and burden that you carry. This life burden that you must imagine away your sex drive for the rest of your life. If you work really hard and pray to god your sex drive will just magic away. 🤪 But the funny thing was as I grew up I found out that many of my cousins aren’t even my biological cousins because they were all cheating on one another!!! 😂😂😂

Because they were so sexually repressed and knew their spouse wouldn’t approve of sex so they would find another partner to fulfill their sexual desires. 🤣

So what did that teach me? Not only is my family full of judgy assholes. But they also had unsustainable ideas about sex that even they could not uphold.

A common theme growing up were “christian” ideas that weren’t compatible with common everyday life.

Expecting christian’s and non-christian’s to cater to YOUR feelings about your religion is just another example of them. lol

I lived with several. Married one, one was a sibling, one was a parent and two housmates.

They all had a religion, they were in their own individual cults where they were God, worshipped the creature and creation, every single one of them.

I can look at this headline and believe it isn't going to be salient. I don't need to ponder on it.

You could very well be right. I have lots of spells of doubt, the questioning of belief in God is an occasional brief passing for me. Neither of us will know until we are dead.

JennyWren87 · 26/04/2023 20:08

I blaspheme all the time and am religious. I don't think twice about it. I'm fairly sure God has more important things to do that worry about me saying "Oh my God" 4839329 times a day 😂

And when you’ve got all your kids you should just stop having sex.

I am going through peri menopause and have been paying attention to older women, I understand that sex isn't very nice post menopause.

AAAAABBBBBCCCCC · 26/04/2023 20:13

But isn't 'bloody' to do with the blood of Christ?

TiredDonut · 26/04/2023 20:17

Personally I'm a big fan of 'Jesus Christ on a * bendy bus'

What does your menopause that have to do with others projecting their sexless marriage ideals onto health 20-30 and sometimes 40 year old couples?

It's okay to wish for things. It's quite likely that wishing ain't gonna be the same as getting, though. . .

Of course it doesn't. Just as holding the opposing position doesn't preclude people of faith from being as obnoxious as possible!

Jesus H. Christ, Christ on a Bike, and Christ on a Bendy Bus are my current favourites.

I totally believe in Jesus. I don't doubt he existed and was very influential. He wasn't resurrected or any of that bollocks though.

And yeah, when I was growing up, unsolicited Christianity was shoved in my face but I didn't ever believe in that particular fairy tale. I'm thankful that kids of today don't get that nonsense taught as fact at school or have to sing hymns, etc.

I'll say what I like.

Christ on a Cracker is good as well. 😚
