On the Asda one, I hadn't noticed he was years later, I just thought she was rude to shut the door in his face. It didn't make sense to me.

I hadn't got a clue what was going on either.

There's a woman going on about Asda technical stuff and a gormless looking man and a little girl in the background.

Yeah. Weird.

The adverts that get me are the ones where someone starts talking enthusiastically about a funeral plan they've taken out. I mean, really? Do people actually do this IRL?!

It does amuse me that afternoon tv is full
of funeral ads, house equity, leaving money to charity in your will. Plus a few debt ones.

There doesn’t seem to be any creativity or imagination used in making adverts any more. Years ago (70s) we had such classics as:

The Wonder of Woolies
For Mash get Smash (the aliens)
Watch Out there’s a Humphrey about (milk)
I’d like to Buy the World a Coke
Ready Brek Central Heating for kids
Everyones a Fruit & Nut Case (Cadburys)
Hamlet cigars (ok we don’t want to encourage smoking but they were great ads)
Im a Secret Lemonade Drinker (R Whites Lemonade)

We used to go into work the next day and rave about how great the ads were. Now they’re all so boring (probably for fear of offending anyone in some way) and irritating.

One I do like though is the one for Haven holidays with boy on the beach pretending he’s riding a chariot, with The Swords of a Thousand Men playing.

Agreed, that's a tremendous advert.

It's heart-warming and emotionally intelligent. It manages the feat of being simple without making you feeling like your intelligence is being insulted, iyswim.

It’s so full of joy as well. One of the best of the current crop.

Is that back for this year?

I tell you what I'm sick of seeing in adverts that's people sitting on the loo. Seems very popular recently.

Also, the one where the guy in the gold robe bends over with a razor to sort out his Crown Jewels (I think it is). Makes me wince and I'm a woman!!!

Catlover77 · 30/04/2023 11:28

The Cloudy To Clear radio advert as she sings cloudy to Clair (definitely not clear). Annoys me incredibly

DiscoBeat · 30/04/2023 11:31

My worst one at the moment is Lloyds Bank, the horses ones, particularly the 'this girl is on FIRE!'
This annoys me too. There's only one syllable in fire not:
FI-YERRR!!

I saw the new TSB one for the 1st time last night. As I've only seen it once I may have missed the point, but are they just openly encouraging financial irresponsibility now?!

There’s a guy in a restaurant and 2 women come into to join him and he introduces his friend who will be joining them and is a small elephant. The elephant then says something like “he almost didn’t come because he’s worried about money, but he called TSB and they convinced him he could come” (Again only seen it once so that’s not verbatim but I’m fairly sure it’s the gist!)

I get that banks like us to spend and us in debt is how they make their profits, but surely they’re usually a bit more subtle about it! If you’re worried about money should your bank be telling you that it’s fine to go and have a meal out?! I'm guessing they're trying to say they're availble to speak to, to help you manage your money but it didn't come across like that to me!

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 02/05/2023 08:56

I like the pets at home advert with the farty dog 😁

DemonicCaveMaggot · 02/05/2023 08:57

The Johnny Depp Sauvage ad.

From that I understand that Sauvage smells like dust, a buffalo, mangy coyote, and sweaty Johnny Depp.

Can't wait to buy that for DH for Christmas.

I hate the cruise advert with the father and daughter.

I reckon they were meant to be a couple but on reviewing the advert it looked wrong as he's so much older so they made them father and daughter.

Either way it's totally creepy.

Just seen an Aldi ad where Colin the Caterpillar meets cuthbert the caterpillar!

Rummikub · 15/05/2023 00:39

New in at number 1 for me is the Argos ad with the bullying Connie doll. I dislike it intently!

Willyoujustbequiet · 15/05/2023 01:10

The British Seniors Advert for life insurance with the grandma playing hide n seek with her grandaughter.

She claims to be 50. She's 70 if shes a day. Is this really what ad executives think a 50 year old looks like?!

Rummikub · 15/05/2023 01:19

😂😂totally agree about how 50 is represented in ads

CherryCokeFanatic · 15/05/2023 01:23

I miss that nice man who did it’s the pocket tap of our time ad for Asda

Alex Drake · 15/05/2023 02:00

I have so had it with the Gravlax advert. It's been on constantly for months, no idea what it is meant to be advertising but I damn well know that Glavlax is just smoked salmon!

I don’t know whether it’s supposed to be advertising fish or a phone or a search engine or a restaurant or clothes or some lifestyle app.

All the characters in it seem hideous.

RichardsGear · 15/05/2023 06:55

Also they've obviously hired the actor from one of those 'character' agencies and he's punching well above with his supposed girlfriend. That's all I think when I see it.

Although I do remember that, "Mum and Dad, meet Colin," (I think!) with his huge schnozz ad for a credit card (I think, again!) so must be a theme.

AutumnCrow · 15/05/2023 21:22

And what's that VictoriaPlum.com one all about? Some vacuous woman flailing about holding a plant in her own bathroom looking for somewhere to put it and after twirling around for an age, looking high and low in a confused manner, swishing her shiny hair, she finally puts it on ... the table! And then struts off like she's just achieved world peace wearing her trendy jeans and french tuck shirt.

Make it stop.
