Came on to say this. I always choose the supermarket brands, except when it comes to crumpets. Also agree with the properly toasted thing.

Yes supermarket own ones are generally grim, Morrisons sourdough ones are OK though.

Love them, but they've got to be cooked properly as in toasted until they are almost burnt and smothered in salted butter. If you don't toast them long enough they are a bit doughy and tasteless.

I think this is key. Also cheap ones tend to be doughier.

You have to really toast them. I hate a pale doughy crumpet. Got to be crispy with lashings of butter. Served with hot chocolate after excursions on a chilly day.

Yes my children are being raised in a famous five novel. Hopefully with less racism and criminal behaviour. Possibly a tad more supervision.

I went 33 years without touching them because the holes make me feel sick.

I can eat them if DH prepares them and sticks cheese over the holes!

'Lashings of butter' is probably my favourite sentence of all time.

Crumpets must be very well toasted - they need to be crunchy and very hot.

If not, they are disgusting.

This! Almost black on the bottom.

And only EVER warburtons

newfence · 24/04/2023 13:10

They make my teeth feel horrible - all squeaky.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 24/04/2023 20:01

Crumpets and real butter.... food of champions

CurlewKate · 25/04/2023 14:04

Crumpets do make amazing croutons, though.....

Mmmmmm. Hot crumpets with butter and marmite.
