I seem to be the only one.

There's a big difference between Warburton's (ultimate crumpet) and own brand (or there was last time I had an own brand one).

Warburton's (when thoroughly toasted), crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle.

Own brand - rubbery, just meh.

I thought they were Okay, but was introduced to then as a true delicacy when a friend explained how much better the Warburton's ones were. I'm not generally particularly brand fussy, but I am for crumpets.

Same. Own brand crumpets are horrible for some reason!

Anyone ever made their own? Considering getting some crumpet rings.

Or make your own?

The best!

Crumpets must be very well toasted - they need to be crunchy and very hot.

If not, they are disgusting.

This! An undercooked crumpet is awful.

Have you tried buttering first then frying in a saucepan (no oil, just the butter that you would have spread on afterwards to cook it in)? It's a game changer.

Warburtons. And they have to be done until crispy, so they crack when you bite them

mamaduckbone · 23/04/2023 22:02

YABU
Toasted and buttered with marmite - food of the gods.
(Also, I'm low-carbing and fantasising about baked goods)

blueirises · 23/04/2023 22:03

Hovis ones are lovely too. Properly crumpety!

theministerscat · 23/04/2023 22:11

We call them 'fat sponges' in our house. Delicious though! Don't have them very often but love them with butter AND crunchy peanut butter.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2023 22:12

holes Sad

YewandOak · 23/04/2023 22:14

Amazing things, especially with butter, marmite and cheddar cheese.

Kindofcrunchy · 23/04/2023 22:14

I cannot fund Warburtons (evil company) but agree the supermarket ones can be a bit thin. My 3yo will only eat them raw for some ungodly reason.

IamSuperTired · 23/04/2023 22:15

They are only nice if really really hot, practically burnt, and smothered in melting butter (and maybe a dab of marmite!)

JMSA · 23/04/2023 22:15

Another hater here.

Sunnysunbun · 23/04/2023 22:16

Awful texture. Yuck.

rkhumo · 23/04/2023 22:19

YABU.

All. The. Butter.

Yum

elm26 · 23/04/2023 22:25

Warburtons, toasted so slightly crispy on outside and hot and fluffy in the middle with TONS of butter and either a thin spread of marmite or cream cheese. Lovely!

clpsmum · 23/04/2023 22:27

YoH absolute weirdo!

TwoMonthsOff · 23/04/2023 22:29

Only warburtons or Lidl’s and they have to be cooked twice at least in the toaster, with Isigny butter

newnamethanks · 23/04/2023 22:30

A properly toasted and buttered crumpet is the food of the Gods. Don't accept the undercooked soggy kind yuk. Muffins, however, are the food of the Devil.

Hmmmm……I can see this would work, I do this with pizza, only dry fry so the base is really crispy
genius

HeartshapedFox · 23/04/2023 22:31

Finally, I have found my people. Absolutely hate them 🤢

Zola1 · 23/04/2023 22:32

They get stuck in my throat like a weird rubber sponge

KarmaStar · 23/04/2023 22:34
