I seem to be the only one.

Yabvvu, they are heavenly and I was so disappointed to open my cupboard this morning to discover dd2 had eaten the last 2 crumpets before work 🤬
I love them very well toasted and loaded up with butter. Sometimes marmite too.

MaryShelley1818 · 23/04/2023 22:47

YABVU!
We all love them here....DH, DS5 and DD2 have them with butter and raspberry jam.
I like to toast 3 and have one with butter and jam, one with Nutella and one with Crunchy peanut butter.

CoffeeandCakeNow · 23/04/2023 22:49

I do like crumpets but didn't as a child as my brother told me all the bits down the middle (when cut in half) were spiders legs 🫣😄

AlienSupaStar · 23/04/2023 22:55

Trypophobia trigger for me - I can’t bear the wholes.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 23/04/2023 22:57

They are the most perfect food stuff in existence, I could eat for every meal. Fave toppings are cheese, marmite, honey and chocolate spread. I get very excited about the seasonal shaped ones in asda. For.all your Christmas tree, bunny or unicorn needs.

Timely thread - we had cheesy garlic crumpets with our pasta for dinner today - Warburton's, of course 😂 thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/air-fryer-cheesy-garlic-crumpet-tear-n-share/

Oh my 🤤. You are the best for sharing this recipe

If my toaster knob goes from 6 o'clock to 6 o'clock and I set it to 1o'clock for toast etc what number setting should I use for crumpets?

6pm!

Crumpets are perfect butter delivery vessels. Also lovely with raspberry jam.

I also prefer my toasted until crispy on the outside.

AppallinglyReheated · 24/04/2023 03:13

Used to love them, then went off the increasingly rubbery and awful texture of shop bought ones...

And then found the video i think someone else has linked up thread - made our own a couple of weeks back.

Oh my god - fuck the bloody diet, they are incredible. They are a faff, you really do have to get the temp and timings right and do NOT rush them... but they are worth absolutely every bit of the effort involved.

Plus if you have had to stand there gazing at them, poking their little tops to get the holes right and generally faffing with them all that time, you feel FAR less guilty for slapping on a fuck ton of butter and scoffing the lot.

I have also made pikelets with that recipe, just a spoon of batter, no ring. Whilst technically (according to video bloke) not a pikelet, as a pikelet requires milk, and making a dough that is then let down into a batter after one rise, but who the fuck can be arsed - I cannot tell the bloody difference at all (and I have eaten a LOT of pikelets in my time!).

Riapia · 24/04/2023 08:16

Suck the butter out of the holes then throw the rest away.

Hoolahoophop · 24/04/2023 08:36

Crumpet slathered in butter and oozing with very ripe soft cheese (brie, camembert or the queen of cheese pie d angloys) cannot be bettered. Though I do suspect it may be responsible for my artery related issues and diet failures.

KimberleyClark · 24/04/2023 08:41

I think the secret of crumpets is to toast them under the grill, not in the toaster.

anon2022anon · 24/04/2023 08:45

Put them down twice in the toaster.
Awesome with butter
Also awesome with a slice of cheese on the top, and then a poached egg
But it needs to be crispy on the outside, and they're yum

CurlewKate · 24/04/2023 09:06

You have to toast them to the second before they are burnt. They are nice then. But probably not worth the stress.

notquitesoyoung · 24/04/2023 09:10

I'm totally with you @Wowz. The DC however bloody love them.

Tanith · 24/04/2023 09:15

A good brand, or home-made, is essential.
Well-cooked is also essential, as is butter.

A toasting fork and an open fire, as my Dad used to do them, is the ultimate crumpet experience.

I cannot fund Warburtons (evil company) but agree the supermarket ones can be a bit thin. My 3yo will only eat them raw for some ungodly reason.

What's wrong with them?

19lottie82 · 24/04/2023 11:27

Crumpets must be very well toasted
they need to be crunchy and very hot.

the truth. I always double dunk mine in the toaster

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 24/04/2023 11:28

Can't stand them, can't even look at them

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/04/2023 11:37

Bloody love crumpets. Agreed Warburtons are the best ( but not the freakishly sized MegaCrumpet which won't go in the toaster)

What with this thread and the Cream tea one yesterday MN is playing havoc with my waistline.

Zhougzhoug · 24/04/2023 11:41

Pikelets are far superior. Less stodgy.

Plumbear2 · 24/04/2023 11:41

Horrible rubbery urg. Taste even worse with butter on.

Crumpets must be very well toasted - they need to be crunchy and very hot.

If not, they are disgusting.

They do very well in the air fryer as I found recently, more evenly toasted than the toaster too!

The correct setting for crumpets is when hell freezes over

200 in the air fryer, maybe flip half way through
