I seem to be the only one.

Some of you need your palates looking at, you absolute freaks.
I bloody love a hot buttered crumpet 🤤

DiscoBeat · 23/04/2023 21:16

I like them once in a while if they're double toasted so nearly crispy, with marmite and a slice of mature cheddar on top. But all soft and spongy - no!

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/04/2023 21:20

Love butter, don't mind the holes but crumpets now are like rubber, so I eat Muffins (English muffins) instead; toasted with lashings of butter and cheese or jam.

For sweeter meals, I'm pleased to see that American-style pancakes can also be found in most bread aisles now.

BunnyFun · 23/04/2023 21:23

If my toaster knob goes from 6 o'clock to 6 o'clock and I set it to 1o'clock for toast etc what number setting should I use for crumpets?

Blueuggboots · 23/04/2023 21:23

If you cook them until they're crispy and slather with butter, they're amazing!
I don't like them when they're warm and soft...

BungalowLil · 23/04/2023 21:26

Undercooked.
Undercooked.
Undercooked.
Burnt.

Crumpets must be very well toasted - they need to be crunchy and very hot.

If not, they are disgusting.

Yes this.

I love a crumpet, but there is nothing worse than an under toasted one

elvislives2012 · 23/04/2023 21:31

YABVVVVVVVVVVVU!
Mmm lovely crumpets. I had two today with butter then marmite then cheese
Delicious

Droppit · 23/04/2023 21:38

Totally agree. They remind me of those living sponges.

Greengreented · 23/04/2023 21:12

They’re ok, but vastly overrated. Give me toast from a fresh bakery loaf, with lots of salted butter, any day.

Me too. Crumpets are vile 🤢

Beaverbridge · 23/04/2023 21:41

Absolute filth.

tokyotea · 23/04/2023 21:41

I love putting LOADS of butter on first then a thick spread of cream cheese on top on a hot crumpet. Mmmmm!

DustyLee123 · 23/04/2023 21:42

They are nice, but pikelets are better,

cocksstrideintheevening · 23/04/2023 21:43

Horrid. Either over done or underdone with hawk eye on the toaster.

watchthebloodycat · 23/04/2023 21:45

I feel like my whole life is a lie... I can't believe I walk amongst people who don't like crumpets?!

Is everyone ok?!

There's a big difference between Warburton's (ultimate crumpet) and own brand (or there was last time I had an own brand one).

Warburton's (when thoroughly toasted), crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle.

Own brand - rubbery, just meh.

I thought they were Okay, but was introduced to then as a true delicacy when a friend explained how much better the Warburton's ones were. I'm not generally particularly brand fussy, but I am for crumpets.

Came on to say this. I always choose the supermarket brands, except when it comes to crumpets. Also agree with the properly toasted thing.

ClaraBourne · 23/04/2023 21:47

Only Warburton's taste good, in fact amazing. Own brands are all horrible.

The correct setting for crumpets is when hell freezes over

LittleFriendSusan · 23/04/2023 21:49

Timely thread - we had cheesy garlic crumpets with our pasta for dinner today - Warburton's, of course 😂 thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/air-fryer-cheesy-garlic-crumpet-tear-n-share/

Cookerhood · 23/04/2023 21:50

Warburtons toasted under the grill (never the toaster), butter & a poached egg on top.

cocobongo1 · 23/04/2023 21:51

Love them. I like sticking the tip of my tongue on the holes.

FabFitFifties · 23/04/2023 21:53

Liked them very well done asva child - hate them now. It's like eating a warm sponge.

Allthecatsandcosyblankets · 23/04/2023 21:53

Oh I love then 😆 plenty of salty butter, chilli jam & some smoked salmon. The heat of them always semi cooks the smoked salmon and its delicious 🤤
