To think F off it’s my business if I take my kids to…

Walt Disney world florida.

kids will be both under 5, booked our first family to WDW florida and I’m incredibly excited as can’t wait to go and we got a great deal price wise BUT the reaction is not what I’ve been expecting.

in the travel agent on booking, older woman overheard and felt the need to say it’s absolutely silly taking children that young… I was taken aback

then at work chatting about upcoming holidays met with such reactions as ‘fucking idiots’ and selfish and more money than sense . My boss actually had to sort of intervene because the conversation felt quite heated and aggressive… since when did this become a thing? Why are people so against taking young children to Disney?

totally fine if it’s not your scene but it’s mine and kids under 3 are free so you don’t pay, mine have been to euro Disney twice and loved it . I don’t get this attitude

@Disneydisneydisneydisney People should mind their own business, they are probably jealous. Have a wonderful time, your kids will love it.

I personally wouldn't do it. Holidays with young kids are hard at the best of the times but some people are better at coping with tired grumpy kids than me!!! They won't remember it but your money your choice and nobody should speak to you the way they did. Have a fab time and hope for your sake the kids enjoy it too!!

If you stay in the parks until your kids are tired and grumpy that's on you. Take them back to the hotel and get them in the pool before that happens. Its all about knowing your kids and doing a bit of planning.

@LT1982 @daisymoonlight People have different opinions, and I’m a hardcore Disney hater. Their characters push rigid and old-fashioned sex roles to impressionable minds. Their versions of fairy tales leave out the morals and offer happy endings. Disney has been granted special copyright privileges so they can continue to push their saccharine grotesques at outrageous prices. No, I wouldn’t take my children to Disney, nor any amusement park. Half a dozen rides at the local agricultural fair’s carnival are plenty for children.

There are a lot worse things going on in this world than some innocent fun for children. Maybe you should channel your anger towards real world problems

I’m honestly shocked at this amount of emotional investment in hating someone’s holiday, do we work together?

And it is up to parents to tell their children the difference between reality and make-believe and/or even go as far as going into the history of such fairy tales and why such things were told.

You sound very angry. Go and watch a Disney film, it might cheer you up.

And no, the newer Disney films are not stereotyped and there is almost always a parent or two dying. But how would you know.

I thought you were going to say Drag Queen Story Time so I came along to say that yes of course you're unreasonable if you think men who prance around luridly in underwear and want to do that in front of children is reasonable. But Disney? Go enjoy. Sadly I imagine some of the people who think Disney is misogynistic and dangerous are the same wierd fuckers who think Drag queens for children are perfectly innocent and 'inclusive.'

It's almost definitely the other way round. Those who dislike drag also dislike Disney stereotyping of women and princesses, yes even in the newer Disney films.

Refrosty · 27/04/2023 17:59

I hated the idea of going to WDW and resented the choice by family, but my niece (aged 3) cried when she saw Elsa. She's a tough nut and wasn't particularly into princesses but she bawled (happy tears) out of shock and amazement at one of the castle shows that featured Elsa. Then I understood why people do it. And I happened to really enjoy Florida (definitely try to visit a beach in the gulf coast, they are the best beaches I've ever visited, the sunsets are amazing, and my young DC were able to enter the shallow sea without me being overly concerned about safety).

My niece doesn't remember that holiday, but I had a video and showed her. She laughed and thought it was sweet.

Aye, maybe you're right. I suppose I've never felt much impact. I had stepchildren first, stepdaughter was into Disney, collected videos in 90's (still in loft, would love it if they'd increased in value!) Very confident in herself and abilities - although a lib fem so does need help there - and my son who came along later had his Disney phase but not massive. I expect the Frozen stuff with a girl would have pushed me over the edge.

Some people do live and breath it, that’s not us, but I do enjoy the films for nostalgic fondness and the songs as do the dcs and the holidays hold such a happy place in my heart.

im actually quite looking forward to the new little mermaid, her voice is breath taking. Dh quite likes marvel and Star Wars and the lion king, and he always wanted to go (to Paris really) his dad used to take his new family and leave him behind. So I’m really pleased he’ll get to experience that with his kids. Dc2 loved the ambiance of Paris, the music the colours and he was not even 18 months, the parade song is now his favourite. The eldest was almost shaking with excitement meeting the characters, and beaming with joy when they waved at her and high fived her.

Totally get it not being some peoples bag, but evil inc as you’re portraying, hardly

Have a great time! We are taking our 2 kids later this year, they will have just turned 2 and 5. It’s not cheap (school holidays) nor are we 6 figure earners. But we don’t have high outgoings, work hard and prioritise holidays. We plan to take them every 3-5 years as I did growing up, so I don’t particularly care if they remember it or not (incidentally I DO remember bits of my first trip at 5). I know they will love it when they are there, as will we, and that’s what matters!

As an aside, we’re also going with my parents. My grandparents came with us when I was 5, then died two years later. I’m so glad to have the memories and photos of us all together on that holiday.

i hope you have a brill time! We have very similar motivations for going (although we did have relatively high outgoings, childcare and a mortgage that’s going to go up by like £300 a month) but we’ve budgeted for this and got a good deal!

im bringing my mum, in all honesty those holidays with my parents as a child as the ones I hold so close after having lost my dad.

You do realise that its a theme park, its like Father Christmas, its not real, there is no such thing as pixie dust.
