Walt Disney world florida.

kids will be both under 5, booked our first family to WDW florida and I’m incredibly excited as can’t wait to go and we got a great deal price wise BUT the reaction is not what I’ve been expecting.

in the travel agent on booking, older woman overheard and felt the need to say it’s absolutely silly taking children that young… I was taken aback

then at work chatting about upcoming holidays met with such reactions as ‘fucking idiots’ and selfish and more money than sense . My boss actually had to sort of intervene because the conversation felt quite heated and aggressive… since when did this become a thing? Why are people so against taking young children to Disney?

totally fine if it’s not your scene but it’s mine and kids under 3 are free so you don’t pay, mine have been to euro Disney twice and loved it . I don’t get this attitude

My concern would be the rampant gun violence in Florida. I live in the states and had hoped to take my kids, but no fucking way we will step into Florida with the way things are.

PhillySub · 25/04/2023 08:48

The woman who said that it was silly has obviously never been there so doesn't know what she is talking about

Dibbydoos · 25/04/2023 08:48

Jealousy knows no bounds, OP.

Have fun x

ThatsAboutEnoughOfThat · 25/04/2023 08:53

Meh, I took my kids on lots of holidays when they were little that they don't remember much of (including Disney), but I do.

Catspyjamas17 · 25/04/2023 09:10

One of my colleagues goes every year and his kids are in late teens/university age. Not for me but some people love it and under 5s would be beside themselves with excitement.

3peassuit · 25/04/2023 09:30

I took DGC to Florida last year when she was 4. She had a great time. Ignore silly comments and enjoy your holiday.

Knors · 25/04/2023 09:58

We took DS to WDWF when he was 9 months. We're going again next year, he'll be 5 and it wont be the last time we'll go. Some people are just miserable and extremely jealous! Enjoy your hols OP.

we’re actually as of right now planning to do just the theme park 😃 and one day at the beach, when they’re older that’s when we’ll do Everglades and some exploring. I know my kids and it’s not something they’ll be into right now.

4k is quite standard for most holidays these days, European ones included actually, depends where you stay of course, but we’d end up spending the same in dubai, easily! But with Disney this hols we’re getting some money for dining and gifts too

Because Dubai and WDW are the only two choices? The only place I would like to go to less than Disney is Dubai!

If this is how you speak about things at work...barely six figures, we'd be ok with one big one and one cheapy one (when for many people a cheapy one every 3 years would be a dream)...to be honest you sound quite full if it. Even if I was in a similar income bracket to you I'd find it a bit obnoxious. So maybe it's HOW you talk about things rather than the fact of what you're doing that gets people's backs up?

I agree - it's not about Disney OP, it's the way you are speaking. Do you often talk openly about money? You seem very open to discussing how much your holidays cost, your salaries etc. Why is this? I guess I was raised that it was impolite to discuss costs of things, salaries etc.

Maybe this is why people are reacting. Your posts do come off a little obnoxious, even if you don't intend to come across this way.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 25/04/2023 10:31

this is such a braggy thread

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 25/04/2023 10:32

I voted YABU because OP if you chat on about money at work like you do in this thread, no wonder people say you're a "fucking idiot". You sound boring af.

No one talks about money/ salaries/ cost of hols at work, that’s inappropriate, that’s just on this thread where people have said it costs 10k to go to Disney and I’ve said that’s more than double what I’ve paid or that people thought it was maybe boastful to people struggling, I was the most jnr person in that convo. It’s not talking about salaries, to know that people in more snr roles than me or people who have been in the company longer and have more experience are obviously paid more.

no one talks about money but it’s pretty much common knowledge that people more snr / with more experience get paid more

If you're pissing off people senior to you at work to the point your manager needs to step in, you need to:

  1. Accept they're not jealous of you
  2. Rein it in; you're obviously being a pain in the arse that they've had enough of.

Way to misread a thread. Well done.

  1. I’ve not said anyone is jealous, more Disney seems to incite weird reactions, proof this thread 2) one of them started a convo about holidays planned, idle office chitchat 3) boss came in at my defence because it became really awkward 5 people telling 1 person who stupid it is to take young kids to Disney, how it’s selfish, a waste etc

I guess don’t go then? Solves that problem for you. I like dubai and the emirates as a whole (we’re a Muslim family) . I can see though how some might not or might object. But I like the ME.

My youngest child just turned 3 the first time we went to Disney world. Still remembers it and still talks about it, she will be 7 next month.
We go again in a few weeks staying at a Disney hotel and then a few nights at hard Rock at Universal, This time however I have hardly told anybody that we are going as after the last time we went I was surprised at some peoples reactions and found myself having to justify how we could afford it and why we were taking a child at that age. I honestly think it comes down to pure jealousy that they cannot afford to go on that type of holiday.
Hope you have an amazing time making magical memories with your family.
Make sure you post lots of pictures on social media for the haters!! 🙌

Disneydisneydisneydisney · 25/04/2023 11:38

Exactly @40andoverit you get some weird reactions, reactions that you wouldn’t get going to another holiday that would cost the same.

we debated tacking on universal but I think my two might be a smidge too young but we’ll definitely do that before the oldest turns 10 (so we can still get kids tickets lol).

i was googling and there a place with ‘real’ mermaids too, weeki wachi springs (I think but I might have spelled that wrong) wondering whether to go there or not, looks nice but as we aren’t planning to have a hire car not sure how we’d do the to and fro with car seats and all that

Don’t bother with these types of posters OP. They can’t be bothered to read your posts but feel obliged to tell you how wrong you are and what they perceived you have done due to their own projections.

It’s ridiculous that some can’t just let others enjoy things without being negative or making about what others can’t and can afford as if that has anything to do with you and your family.

My thoughts exactly

Have an amazing time. Lots said that every time I took my kids abroad too. Youngest was 7 months when we went to Disneyland paris, my eldest was 18 months going to the Balearics and Canary's.

Ignore and have a fantastic holiday, your kids will have a brilliant time.

To be fair if that were the case, people wouldn't go to many destinations. There's crime everywhere.

MrsWithwithers · 25/04/2023 12:32

People can be very weird about Disney. I’ve just come back from WDW in Florida and there are people I work with that I just would not mention it to. They seem to have very strong preconceived ideas about what it’s like even though they haven’t been themselves. People have informed me that it’s very built up and all concrete (we stayed next to a beautiful river) nothing for children (the parks are designed for them!) children won’t remember it (we will, and they have a fab time) All these have been presented to me as fact by people who have never been but I have been and would never dream of telling someone that I know better than them when it comes to their choice of holiday.
