To think F off it’s my business if I take my kids to…

Walt Disney world florida.

kids will be both under 5, booked our first family to WDW florida and I’m incredibly excited as can’t wait to go and we got a great deal price wise BUT the reaction is not what I’ve been expecting.

in the travel agent on booking, older woman overheard and felt the need to say it’s absolutely silly taking children that young… I was taken aback

then at work chatting about upcoming holidays met with such reactions as ‘fucking idiots’ and selfish and more money than sense . My boss actually had to sort of intervene because the conversation felt quite heated and aggressive… since when did this become a thing? Why are people so against taking young children to Disney?

totally fine if it’s not your scene but it’s mine and kids under 3 are free so you don’t pay, mine have been to euro Disney twice and loved it . I don’t get this attitude

Why would people be jealous of Walt Disney world? It's my idea of hell.

I love rollercoasters and I'm a big thrill seeker, but it's so expensive and too crowded.

Give me Alton towers anyday than Disney.

See I don’t love Alton towers or Drayton manor, but it’s horses for courses

Skyliner is great, so easy to use!

Pop food court also does huge sharing pizza for $20 it easily feeds 3 adults.

They also do free marshmallow toasting every night! 6.30-7.30 kids loved that!!

Try and request 60's block it's closed to the main hotel and skyliner also the resort busses. If not then 50's or 70's.
The walls are paper thin, if you are light sleepers get earplugs!

Have you downloaded the Disney app yet? If not do it you can see all the restaurants and menus including prices on there will give you a good idea how much to budget.

Also check out space 220 restaurant in Epcot. It's amazing and I'm sure the kids will love it. You've no chance of a reservation if you're not staying in a Disney hotel, you can book 70 days before your arrival date, you'll need to do it pretty much on that day to have any chance of getting a reservation!!

And I hate Disney and its make believe magical crap.

Just gets my back up when people reply it's jealousy. No it's not 🤷‍♀️

If you hate it, then don't go. But why would you care about what other people do?

Mummadeze · 23/04/2023 12:55

SO weird, anyone saying they won’t remember it. So what!!! The joy of seeing them enjoying it at the time for you is just as precious in terms of memories. I took my young daughter to Disney in Hollywood and in Florida and had the best time ever. She doesn’t remember those trips but I do!

I always think that! What are you supposed to do, just ignore your kids for the first few years because 'they won't remember'? They'll enjoy it now! Isn't that enough? And you'll enjoy seeing them delighted (in a way they might not be when they get older). And you'll have pictures. And even if they don't remember the specifics I'm sure they are learning from having new experiences.

Probably just jealous they can't afford it! Tell them to have a nice time at Pontins!

Whereas Alton towers doesn’t have any of that, especially for children, that CBeebies land is just a rumour, Alton towers itself is like the British museum really, just hard facts and reality

It's a lot cheaper, less crowded and your children will probably get the same amount if not more fun there than Disney 🤷‍♀️

I know where I would rather take my children.

I know someone who took a 6 week old to WDW florida which I thought was ridiculous. However yours are old enough to perhaps not remember but will be able to do things.

Brilliant tip! Will pack the white noise machine!

do you have any recommends for character dining? We thought about chef Mickey for breakfast but then I watched a review saying the food was not great, they recommended the omaha I think but that menu looks pork heavy. I thought about the beauty and the beast one but the food might be a bit too fancy for my kids

Yeah been to both and I know where I’d rather take mine given the choice

also you don’t know my kids. There is far more at WDW for them than at both of those parks

I agree, I've been once to Disney & Universal - it was hell for me! Definitely not jealous. I would rather be at a hut in the alps or a beach shack in a non- touristy place.

However, OP is excited so that's all that matters, it's her holiday. The behaviour of the people at her workplace was uneccessary and rude.

Dixiechickonhols · 25/04/2023 17:22

We’ve done all the character dining (in the good old days of free dining plan!) It’s pricey and you can see the same characters in the parks (DAS works for character meets too not just rides)
I do like chef Mickey breakfast. Crystal Palace is nice if they like Winnie poo and Tusker house breakfast at Animal Kingdom is good. But if you are watching spends I’d not bother. Under 3 eats free at buffet or family style meals.

Just some of these replies are insane 'people are jealous'
Sure we are !

Each to their own but these replies are just strange. 😅

We’re at Pop! Wanted AoA but they didn’t have the dining credit on the standard rooms, which is a shame! The skyliner looks handy.
we were thinking, a supermarket trips for some lunch, breakfast and snack items and some Tupperware and a cool bag. We’ll definitely be bringing our water bottles and a Robinsons squeezy squash.

we’re not morning people lol, so I think breakfast will be on the go, cereal in the room and up and out and some fruit and pastries in hand

We stayed at Pop! As pp say, pack your earplugs as the walls are thin and most families with young kids get up quite early, but tbh we were so tired after a full day we slept through most of the noise.

Agree on the refillable mugs - we drank our weight in soda and one of us went to the food court in the morning to pick up tea and coffee. You can also share many of the adult meals if you are not huge eaters and this saved money. The kids meals were often good value and the pizza easily fed three with adult appetites. When you go to Animal Kingdom I would recommend the Flame Tree Barbecue and the ribs, chicken and pulled pork sampler. It was delicious and fed two adults.

Do use the Genie app. It shows you the estimated wait times for rides and attractions and you can order food from it that you pick up at the delivery points, so no need to queue to order.

I know it’s odd to comment on this, but one thing I think they did really well is the restrooms. I have to go frequently, and there were loads of them with no queues. UK theme parks should take note!

I also hate theme parks, which makes WDW seem an odd choice. But I had a blast. Lots of fun but non-scary rides, fabulous shows (my highlights are Finding Nemo at Animal Kingdom and singalong frozen at Hollywood Studies) and points of interest, particularly at EPCOT. There’s also loads of educational stuff, such as the Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom and Living with the Land at EPCOT.

Make use of the official photographers. You get it as standard with the UK ticket and so you can get pictures of yourselves as a group in front of key sights.

Finally, we didn’t bother with magic bands. We were going to, but we’re too knackered to make a choice the first evening, and then realised it’s no hassle just to use the room key. You can link your credit card to the room key and then use that to pay for things.

I think the stranger replies are the ones where you can practically feel the venom dripping through the keyboard.

as I said before I don’t think the colleagues would be been jealous, as more than likely they could afford it also, perhaps they thought I can’t or believe it to cost £10k +

My husband worked for an Amweican back when our girls were babies, we were posted to Japan, we regualay visited Tokyo Disneyland the girls loved it, plus as non Japanese they were made a great fuss off by the locals. They also went to Anaheim and Eurodisney a few years later, still really too young for the rides but had a great time

purpleboy · 25/04/2023 18:37

Sorry restaurant bookings are 60 days before your arrival date but you can make booking for up to 70 days IYSWIM.

We didn't do character dining so can't advise on that, but do check out the dibb, they are super helpful.

Songbird54321 · 25/04/2023 19:18

I can’t say I’ve ever been bothered enough by someone’s holiday to even have an opinion on it, much less voice it.
Unless they were going hunting or something like that

40andoverit · 25/04/2023 21:44

Disneydisneydisneydisney · 25/04/2023 11:38

Exactly @40andoverit you get some weird reactions, reactions that you wouldn’t get going to another holiday that would cost the same.

we debated tacking on universal but I think my two might be a smidge too young but we’ll definitely do that before the oldest turns 10 (so we can still get kids tickets lol).

i was googling and there a place with ‘real’ mermaids too, weeki wachi springs (I think but I might have spelled that wrong) wondering whether to go there or not, looks nice but as we aren’t planning to have a hire car not sure how we’d do the to and fro with car seats and all that

If you are there for 10 days then I would just be doing Disney. We didn’t hire a car last time (2019) and won’t be this time either as the Disney transport was amazing. When going to Walmart or Universal we just used Uber, you can request a car with a car seat but did have an issue one day having to wait a long time for a car to become available that had a car seat, might be worth reading up that to see what others experience with Uber has been more recently.
Swimming with mermaids sounds right up my daughters street.
lots of great advice on this thread for your visit.
Have an amazing time 😊

Ohgollymolly · 26/04/2023 12:09

I think it’s often a little bit of green eyed monster with comments like that.

We have 3 kids and we regularly take them to Disney World. I’ve had many similar comments and it’s really annoying. People just can’t be happy for others any more.

But ultimately you don’t need people to be happy for you or not. It doesn’t matter.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Stormyweathr · 26/04/2023 13:13

I wonder if all the same people commenting do actually nothing with their children and sit in a empty room staring at a wall all day? (on the basis of they won’t remember so what’s the point) oh course they don’t just because a child won’t remember doesn’t mean you can’t have happy memories of them enjoying themselves

Eddie77 · 26/04/2023 13:47

100% YANBU - it's your money and your family so it's really no-one else's business imho. We waited til our kids were 9 and 7 before doing WDW and they only really have limited memories of it all now they're older (now 16 and 14yo) but we all had an amazing time when we went so I'd say go for it and hope you have a blast, whatever the kids do or don't remember in a few years' time.
Just be warned everything at Disney has gone up so much since we went in 2016 - we took the teens to Universal last October (which was great for that age group btw) and looked at doing a day or two at Disney for the newer Star Wars stuff but everything there was about 3 times the price we paid 7 years ago 😱
Hope you all have a blast and can ignore the naysayers
