To think F off it’s my business if I take my kids to…

Walt Disney world florida.

kids will be both under 5, booked our first family to WDW florida and I’m incredibly excited as can’t wait to go and we got a great deal price wise BUT the reaction is not what I’ve been expecting.

in the travel agent on booking, older woman overheard and felt the need to say it’s absolutely silly taking children that young… I was taken aback

then at work chatting about upcoming holidays met with such reactions as ‘fucking idiots’ and selfish and more money than sense . My boss actually had to sort of intervene because the conversation felt quite heated and aggressive… since when did this become a thing? Why are people so against taking young children to Disney?

totally fine if it’s not your scene but it’s mine and kids under 3 are free so you don’t pay, mine have been to euro Disney twice and loved it . I don’t get this attitude

Would you be happy if your child's teacher decided to go to Disney rather than work? I hope you get heavily fined for this if you do do it, as the teacher will have to work even harder ensuring your child catches up with the 'not much work' missed!! What a dismissive way to think of your child's teacher

It literally says they’re under 5 in the first few lines of OP’s first post.

Even if they weren't who's to say the OP isn't going during school holidays?

Some people just moan about anything.

My child isn’t in compulsory education but thanks!

before switching careers I’ve got 10 years experience teaching all the way from primary to university, so even then, I think I’ve got it covered. In light of the strikes I think a lot of parents who once wouldn’t have taken their kids out of school for a few days, might think again.

Sounds to me like they're jealous

Curiosity101 · 26/04/2023 20:46

What a weird reaction OP.

We're big theme park fans. Me and DH did Orlando in 2016, 2017 and 2018 just us. Then in 2022 after a 4 year gap, now with DSs aged 3 and 1. We've just booked again for 2024.

We've also done Disneyland Paris once in 2022 when DSs were 2.5 and 6 months.

I don't regret a single thing and whenever we've mentioned our plans we've never had any really bad reactions. We've had the odd "but they won't remember" but we just shrug it off. We're taking them for us and to have time as a family doing something we love.

The only piece of advice I'd offer is to give universal a miss with children aged 5 or below. Eldest DS enjoyed Universal but it was a lot of money to spend to end up not going on much ourselves as we had to do child swap. Child swap was a bit of a pain etc so if you're only doing 1 week then I'd focus on Disney primarily, maybe 1 day at SeaWorld maximum. The price sky rockets the more brands of parks you add in. Disney was amazing cause we could all go on pretty much everything as a family of 4 🤩

Lollipop81 · 26/04/2023 20:47

Jealousy! That really is all it can be. Don’t get people saying they won’t remember it, so what, they’ll love it at the time and you will remember it for the rest of your life.
rise above them and enjoy, if I could afford to take my 3 and 5 year old I would do so, don’t let anyone ruin it for you.

My son's teacher used to take her family holidays during term time, one year to the US another year to France and the school got student teachers in to cover for her. I'm in Ireland so it's a different system, loads of families take their children out during term time usually in June.

It's in our constitution parents are the primary educators of their children and it's only once a child has missed 20 days may questions be asked. No fines either for going on holiday.

updin · 26/04/2023 21:48

It's a lot cheaper, less crowded and your children will probably get the same amount if not more fun there than Disney

Are you seriously trying to compare Alton towers to Disney world?!!!

Ericaequites · 26/04/2023 22:24

Florida is a snake and insect ridden place with far too much heat and humidity twelve months of the year. The Disney princesses give girls a very unrealistic view of possible careers and the role of women. Being pretty is not the best way to judge a person’s worth. The souvenirs are extremely expensive. They are tawdry advertisements for movies that attack and destroy Western Civilization. It’s not a wholesome place, and those who run it down are not jealous. There’s a middle ground between never going farther than the park around the corner and going to Disney, and it’s generally far cheaper and more educational.

annapanda123 · 27/04/2023 05:51

My eldest was four when we first took her and she still remembers is. We took my youngest to Florida when she was 9 months old and she loved it. She was able to go on many rides and saw all the shows. I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

Disney destroys western civilisation? Not heard that one before

Rather stick pins in my eyes than go to Disney.

Alton towers any day of the week.

Got to the ripe old age of 31 and never been to Disney.

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go there.

I love rides. I love theme parks and I'm an adrenaline junkie.
I've been to theme parks in America too, as well as on the continent.

But Disney? Can't be arsed with that shit.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 27/04/2023 11:13

Regardless of whether posters would go there are or not isn't it all about personal choice?

updin · 27/04/2023 11:21

@Mademetoxic that's fine but they're not in anyway comparable, Alton Towers is probably the size of the Magic Kingdom car park! Disney isn't even really about "thrill" rides.

BlueSoul · 27/04/2023 11:26

We went to WDW when my DS was 2.5 and he loved it, we all did. He is 6 now and still talks about it. We stayed in Contemporary and he still makes models of a hotel with a train going through it and talks about the Monorail and various rides. Its not just about the children anyway, it is a wonderful place for the whole family to enjoy.

It is your money, do what you like with it!

I'd rather do any other theme park than bloody Disney.
Can't be arsed with the crowds, the expense... To name a few.

I've been to several theme parks in America, to which are off the so-called tourist trail.
Much more enjoyable than bloody Disney.

I've been lucky enough to see the real America, several times. That to me is worth far more than Disney holidays. Costs less too.

updin · 27/04/2023 11:38

So have I, my life's ambition is to go to every state, have been to about 15 so have a way to go yet, can't beat a US road trip. Still love Disney though! Not sure why you're being so bitter and critical about a place you've never been to. You might like Universal, you can get Express passes to beat the queues and has much more thrill rides.

Because I have no desire to go to Disney. It just will not magically appear now at this age to want to go.

updin · 27/04/2023 11:46

That’s cool, it’s personal choice, for instance I don’t love camping but you are very passionate in voicing your distaste on something that you’ve not been to, It’s giving bitter.
