Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

My Mom is going through scone recipes and going to make some, then we will have a virtual cream tea. I have to source my scones because she doesn’t live close. I’ll report back.

What's the joke? Too many posts and I can't find it.

No scone unturned.

Honestly in awe that you have the time to have so fully dedicated yourself to this thread!!

To be fair we've all scone a bit crazy over this thread - it's probably the sugar high from all the cream teas.

HyacinthBookay · 24/04/2023 17:12

There were quite a few people having cream teas in the Oxford Street John Lewis today and I kept wanting to ask if they were part of our little Mumsnet Cream Tea Club.

I'd forgotten all about this thread and wondered why Tesco had no Gluten free scones this afternoon, it's you lot, you started a run on Scones.

Whoops!

I've been in York all day and it's no lie that everyone at Betty's was having cream teas (I didn't go in, just stared through the window!)

So, I've been out all day - just come home and cooking tea. Left over cream tea for pudding and I'm going to try cream the jam. It feels wrong but I'm going to try 😝

Who needs a recipe?
scone, jam, cream. 🤷‍♀️

In case anyone is interested I used this company to send cream tea hampers to friends and family as “cheer up” gifts during the pandemic. https://www.cornishhampers.com/collections/cream-teas

The jam and cream are in the right order - I'm impressed and will certainly consider this firm for my future scone needs.

I like my cream tea either sweet or savoury! My current favourite cheese scones come from M&S, they’re amazing warmed in the toaster till slightly crispy and then spread with proper salted butter and just the thinnest scrape of Marmite…

Marmite…

YOU ARE DEAD TO ME!

Did you stand close to the window drooling and correcting them when the cream and jam were in the wrong order?

For those who suddenly have the urge to bake up a storm I can thoroughly recommend this book…. https://shop.nationaltrust.org.uk/national-trust-book-of-scones.html. We’ve made a few of the recipes and they were all lovely (if I do say so myself 😊 ).

I've just received a promotional email from Sainsburys about the wonders of cream teas and showing all the offers they have at the moment. Who would have known Mr Sainsbury was a Mumsnetter

I love this thread and though I’m not commenting on everything I find delightful it’s one of my favorites. I hope when we get near the end that @Monstersinked will start a second one so we can all Scone On together.

With Rick rack braid as well? Mine was red and white

Mine was blue and white.

Can you still get gingham? 🤔

I appreciate that those in the USA may not get the whole "cream tea" thing - so I wanted to share a story of a visit there.

A lovely little restaurant by a lake was selling "popovers" with jam and cream. British me assumed that "popover" was US for scone - but no.

A "popover" is actually a Yorkshire pudding!! They were serving what was effectively a cream tea with Yorkshire pudding instead of scones!

My grannie regularly ate yorkshire pudding with jam. It was a very popular "pudding" (as in dessert) in the NE.

It's only pancake mix after all

I'd said that day 3 of my annual leave would be me just sitting and reading but this might be what I actually end up doing.

I think there is reference to gingham cloths in the Great British Bake Off isn't there? Not sure if kids make their own cookery aprons anymore. I much preferred woodwork the term the girls were allowed to do it instead of needlework. My pendant and paperknife were true works of art

I do believe the "joke" is

Its only pronounced Scone (S K ON) when yo have finished eating it :)

That's right.

Because it's gone.

(Southerners! 🙄)
