Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

People like this are never friends in tge true sense of the word. A true friend would deny it. You're right to be pd off.

Maaaaay have bought some clotted cream and jam tonight, but the shop was Out Of Scones!!! So I bought crumpets which are proving a pretty amazing substitute carrier for the cream and jam. Who knew?!

Please don't start! I ruined my diet yesterday and now you mention crumpets?! And now I want one. So bad. I need a buttered crumpeeeet!!!

There's a good food recipe for affogato which makes me feel less stupid for asking if it's easy to make 😃

I had an affogato at an Italian place the other day and it also had a shot of Amaretto and some amaretto biscuits in it. It was a bit much to be honest. Much prefer the original version. First had one years ago in Spain - their McDonalds do/did them.

SeasonsBleatings · 24/04/2023 10:43

Loving the idea of an amaretto addition! Will need to try that next time I have friends round for dinner

I put a dollop on each scone and then ate a huge spoonful. Made me wretch a bit but, hey life's nothing I've we don't live on the edge friend .

I resisted!

i am going for a run soon, and tempted to pick up the scones on the way home. Although kind of cancels out the run. Told DH about this thread and he is also craving a cream tea too.

prosecco and strawberry jam sounds amazing and id have definitely bought if seen. Thanks for the heads up!

Re. pronunciation, I prefer to think of people as followers of either Scone the Baptist or Scone of Arc

(Scone of Arc is the correct version, obvs)

Genius

@CsiEllie Page just refreshed and I saw your post above mine. Very relieved to hear that someone else understands the absolute necessity of accompanying every cream tea with the scone joke.

What's the joke? Too many posts and I can't find it.

Northernladdette · 24/04/2023 11:34

I’d definitely call her out publicly ;o)

I appreciate that those in the USA may not get the whole "cream tea" thing - so I wanted to share a story of a visit there.

A lovely little restaurant by a lake was selling "popovers" with jam and cream. British me assumed that "popover" was US for scone - but no.

A "popover" is actually a Yorkshire pudding!! They were serving what was effectively a cream tea with Yorkshire pudding instead of scones!

I saw these in Maine! A travesty!

gottastopeatingchocolate · 24/04/2023 14:01

@AprilSmiles - yes, I was in Maine too, on MDI

I may or may not have tried this with a couple of leftover Yorkshires the other weekend!

Try Yorkshire with golden syrup and vanilla ice cream- lush!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/04/2023 14:49

Monstersinked · 22/04/2023 15:49

We're in Yorkshire so what should we do?

Eat them with Lard? :D

KeziaOAP · 24/04/2023 14:49

@Binglebong takes me back to my childhood, Yorkshire with golden syrup and cream, Sunday teatime treat with my grandparents.

Xiaoxiong · 24/04/2023 15:28

I have just been idly googling to figure out what to do with the wild garlic that came in my veg box and came across your thread - it will therefore have to be Donal Skehan's Wild Garlic and Cheddar scones, and tomorrow's dinner will be homemade tomato and basil soup with cheese scones! Thanks OP and your cheeky cow of a friend, without whose creamy fuckery we wouldn't have this glorious thread.

RampantIvy · 24/04/2023 15:28

I'm from Yorkshire (as previous mentioned once or twice) and there's a ice cream parlour/farm shop that calls its self after where I'm from with some yummy included into their name too.

I'm not far from there @Monstersinked Grin

LadyTmalia · 24/04/2023 15:31

I do believe the "joke" is

Its only pronounced Scone (S K ON) when yo have finished eating it :)

longtompot · 24/04/2023 15:35

@ThatFraggle here you go😊

Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!
ThatFraggle · 24/04/2023 15:52

Thanks both of you!

CsiEllie · 24/04/2023 16:12

@ThatFraggle

The joke is, "What's the fastest cake in the world?

Scone"

MrsCarson · 24/04/2023 16:50

I'd forgotten all about this thread and wondered why Tesco had no Gluten free scones this afternoon, it's you lot, you started a run on Scones.
