Thank you. I found it. Very sad what a waste of government money 😔.

Approx 350 per week die, needlessly waiting for treatment, on non strike weeks, no one seems to give a FF about that.

He may well win in the courts (he wouldn't be applying if he didn't think so) but expect even more NHS staff to leave/go off sick.

Well said, just shines a light on what the government thinks of public sector workers. If I was a young person this would put me off wanting to work for a public service. You are forever trying to get your pay up to a reasonable standard and you get the square root of nothing for working hard. There is no financial reward, just a real terms pay cut year after year.

I can't wait for this party to fuck off and take their cringey, grimy gutter politics with them. I don't know anyone who would vote for them now. I think their terrible decisions have affected people from all walks of life and its hard to come back from pissing almost the entire nation off.

GPTec1 · 24/04/2023 18:48

@GremlinBlinds Thats great they trained you up but your HCA position needs to be filled, from where? plus where is the staff to supervise you on your placements?
Its hard enough to get placement time with the low numbers going through Uni.

Plus 20 years ago, nursing was a better paid profession, hence, one reason, for the strikes... erosion of pay.

As a current nurse, how would you improve retainment rates?

It's easy really, mandatory minimum staffing levels, more flexible working (I hate being forced to do long days). Students being protected not used in numbers, proper backfill of sickness/secondment and maternity, and, pay needs to reflect inflation. Free parking? Ability to take breaks and leave work on time, that would come with mandatory staffing.
I accept I usually work at least 30-45 minutes extra every shift but, I shouldn't need to.
I loved nursing that's why I went into it but, I struggle to recommend it and we are the staff responsible for training students of all disciplines.

Me either. They say it's because the Tories 'know what a woman is' in regards to trans rights so it's a feminist vote. But ya know, screw all the single Mums, working Mums, nurses and other female workers in the public sector that the Tories don't care about.

Exactly! And when you point that out you don’t get a response! Can’t they see that all that the Tories are just playing them? This not a government that has protected women!

It's strange and weirdly privileged. I'm with FWR posters on most of their points about trans issues but I am more personally affected by the hell the Tories have created. Even if I wasn't, I wouldn't throw so many of my countrymen/women under the bus by voting Tory just because of trans issues.

SerendipityJane · 25/04/2023 12:49

If you wanted to play the tinfoil hat game, I would suggest that FWR has been infiltrated by some Tory shills who have tuned their dog whistles to the nearest cent, and know they just need to use the trope "knows what a woman is" in order to summon the troops.

Still, if they are happy to plunge us into another 5 years of Glory Tory rule, who are we to argue ?

I'm usually not at all interested in the tinfoil game but you could be right.

Having looked at the RCN and BMA twitter pages recently, there seems to be a lot of "you have blood on your hands you bastards' 'I have cancer and my appts being cancelled are your fault (nurses and Drs) and I'll see you in hell" and "you're a disgrace, you don’t care if people die because you're greedy, you should be convicted of manslaughter for striking" kinda posts.

And I understand a lot of social media including Twitter (and MN) is an unregulated swamp populated by trolls but still...I'm suspicious that those aren't genuine posts.

Wouldn't surprise me if Tory shills have infiltrated MN. The problem being that a lot of MN users think they're far too clever to fall for that and think MN is their little safe place and would never see the obvious advertising of brands in threads and think MNHQ has absolutely nothing to do with the very frequent threads that make their way into the Daily Mail or other tabloids.

Fair point, it hasn’t occurred to me but yes I’d say that’s a possibility.

Tarantullah · 25/04/2023 14:06

I think the government absolutely have an agenda but to be honest the TWAW debate is squarely with Labour. The Tories are just saying what the vast vast majority of people agree with as its biologically true. Why at a time when the country is falling apart and Labour should be a super strong opposition they're doubling down on trans issues and failing to actually provide any credible kind of opposition. The shadow health sec is against strikes as he thinks HCPs should roll over although he was weak and backtracked once people reminded him about what Labour are meant to stand for. Their proposals around the NHS are weak too.

Still would never vote Tory but Labour are shit too, who is the voice of the majority of people nowadays?

I don't see it as easy at all.

NHS is short of approx 150k staff, about 45k are nurses, then their are all the AHPs, HCA's and Doctors/Consultants, add in equipment and crumbling buildings/not enough space and the problems in the NHS are huge.

Oh and 200k in Social Care.... essential for the NHS to be able to clear precious bed space.

I really don't understand how people think the existing workforce can plug these gaps via training in its many forms but not leave shortages elsewhere.

Well yes Labour could and should be a lot stronger! They strike me as being nervous, too scared to say snd do what’s right - about all sorts of issues. Who do we vote for? To be honest the raving looney party would be better than the current lot!
Seriously though, in my area it’s always a two horse race between Tories and Lib Dem, Labour cannot win. So Lib Dem it has to be for me anyway.

Ok, in theory it's easy, as an NHS nurse I know these things would make our day to day work easier and this in turn would make NHS careers much more attractive. Lots of savings and efficiencies could be made, the waste is huge. Maybe it is already too late for the NHS then?

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2023 15:05

Right now the tories are destroying the country. They seem to be focusing all their efforts into siphoning taxpayers money into their and their mates pockets, rather than doing the right thing and reinvesting it back into the countries infrastructure, including the NHS.

Labour might be on the wrong side of history at the moment when it comes to safeguarding children and vulnerable people, but while we are discussing how awful they are, the conservatives are talking the talk, then doing the complete opposite. They are dismantling womens rights by stealth.

They are a bigger danger than Labour to womens rights now.
They are also fucking over the nurses and the country.

I back the nurses.

SerendipityJane · 25/04/2023 16:06

The Tories are just saying what the vast vast majority of people agree with

The vast majority of people are also saying that nurses, doctors teachers all need to be paid more and fairly. But mysteriously the Tories aren't saying that are they ?

The problem for the Tories is like fashion, politics moves in cycles. There is a reason the Tories were booted out in 1997, when the first crop of people born un 1979 (and thus lived their entire life under them) came to vote.

Now, with an accelerated pace (possibly due to technological advances) that may have shrunk a few years. It's been 13 glorious years of Tory rule, and all we have to show for it is shit in our rivers, the ongoing Brexit psychodrama, and a black hole you could see from space in our economy thanks to their self indulgence at make believe.

The issue I have with labour is that they're weak on everything else at the moment. Why aren't they standing behind workers and actually being vocal about decent and workable solutions? The other stuff that they seem to be more open and standing behind is another serious issue but not the only one imo.

You've conveniently cut the rest of my post out, for what possible reason I wonder!

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2023 17:29

At the risk of derailing, I follow MPs from all parties on twitter so I know there is stuff going on in the background. I suspect we'll have to wait for an election to be called to hear more detailed plans, and hope there is a country left when we get to it.

The NHS is a visible display of conservative government, it's doing a shit job. The level of competency seems the same wherever you look.

Just pay the staff a fair wage comparable to the political equivalent.

imho the waste is huge because of the lack of staff & equipment or thats what friends of mine say who work in it.

But of course efficiencies can be made.

No i don't think its too late at all, my belief is we need to attract EU staff and fix retention issues.
