My neighbours have been bitching about the school & that their kids school reports haven't been great.. However the second the kids are home from school their out playing until around 9pm even in the winter.. Most days they have friends home with them too.. They can't really blame the school can they?!!

For us all to pile on and say that OP is a Super Parent™️ and her neighbours are Scummy Scum.

MysteryBelle · 20/04/2023 20:08

Your neighbors felt safe enough and trusted you enough to vent to you about things. And you’re angry that their children play outside a lot and that’s why their school reports are not good.

Op, I hope the neighbor, is it the mom? Do you not like her?, realizes soon that you can’t be trusted to confide in. What are you planning to do, report her to the school, social services, or gossip about her to everyone or just to us? She has no idea of the malice and anger you hold toward her. I think it’s kind of creepy. You are upset that she’s a good mother and having her children play outside, so what if it’s right after school, and up to dinner time? Maybe they do their homework after dinner, or before bed, or in the mornings. You don’t know.

No their absolutely fine, sorry to disappoint you 😁

Agree with @IamAlso4eels
You need to get off your high horse OP.

Kanaloa · 20/04/2023 20:11

What do you think the parents should be doing? Three of my four are doing great in school, but that’s not because I play teachers at home with them every evening and force them to work until bedtime. They enjoy their evenings, it’s their spare time.

Hawkins003 · 20/04/2023 20:13

The school hours only allow for some much time to study X subjects, therefore they need to be learning or studying the material they are doing in class , after school to make sure they understand the subjects better.

Kanaloa · 20/04/2023 20:13

And I mean I am NOT a spag dick who likes to pick out other people’s mistakes, but you don’t seem to know the correct use of their/there/they’re. So maybe you shouldn’t be playing around online in the evening and should dedicate yourself to your further education and improvement since you feel it all begins at home. Or even invite the kids over for a tutoring party.

GoodChat · 20/04/2023 19:16

Outside play with friends after a day at school is exactly what children need

Totally agree. I think OP is actually upset that she can hear them playing - fair enough, but don't make it about educational attainment!

moonspiral · 20/04/2023 20:14

How dare they be children and play

If they want a chance of Oxbridge, then they need to put the hours in of study etc to make the grade

Oh yes. Must let my child know that at the grand old age of nine they should be ditching playing out and dedicating themselves to their Oxbridge studies.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 20/04/2023 20:17

Oh god the Oxbridge wankers are here

Yes it pisses me off.. My dc are in the same school but are doing fine as they do their homework, read alot & do any additional work set.. I can't understand why these neighbours are blaming the school, their kids do fuck all & it's the parents fault!

But, on the plus side, you get to enjoy a lovely feeling of superiority over your feckless neighbours. How about you mind your own business and just parent your own child?

Hobnobswantshernameback · 20/04/2023 20:19

Mind you if they work hard at school and make it to Oxbridge they may grow up not to be wankers who drop on to threads and post inane bollocks like "all the best " so that might be a win

Better than local ones dealing weed, or turning to a life of crime etc

@IamAlso4eels & it educates mine who are in the same class no problem. DH & I are very happy.

It’s great your children are finding school works for them, but there are plenty of children who struggle in school. Not spoken from parenting experience as such (mine seem ok there though have usual complaints), but from others who’ve children haven’t fitted the structure for various reasons. Personally, I agree it’s a bit late for them to be out, but perhaps outside is these children’s best place and they are learning plenty out there through play? Obviously the 12yo needs to do homework and 9yo needs to read, but couldn’t that be being done while your children are at their activities so you’d not be aware necessarily?

Sometimes what can one put. Yes in hindsight I need to read the op better.

Emeraldsrock · 20/04/2023 20:21

Better for them to be out playing than inside glued to screens than a lot of kids.

I didn't realise it was either/or - Oxbridge or a life of crime.

I didn't go to Oxbridge and seem to be doing alright.

Conductpolicy · 20/04/2023 20:25

@Bookwanderer @IamAlso4eels

I am 4 heels of course this is what should happen.

Op, for a million different reason those parents of struggling dc may not be able to help their dc. What then?

Unfortunately however in the real world of UK education, if your dc are struggling it's highly unlikely that the school can help.

Are the only two options in life Oxbridge or drug dealing? 😂

id rather mix with the drug dealers tbh.
