Dogs peeing on car tyres

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:09

Put on AIBU for traffic-
need some advice-
how do I word a message to put on road WhatsApp group?
basically- we have 2 cars- one on drive one outside our hedge on road
daily approx 2-3 times a day- someone is letting their dog pee on the car tyres.
firstly- disgusting. Why??? Just why??? Secondly there are bushes, verges and trees all along the road!
I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone.
I don’t know who it is that’s doing it.
so wanted to compose a message to put on the road WhatsApp group that doesn’t come across as a doormat or being bitchy either.
appreciate any replies x

A man who lives near me posted to a similar effect on NextDoor.

It did not go as planned for him but the discussion that followed was absolutely hilarious and bizarre.

After a while, the thread descended into a slanging match between the OP and several other posters about whether having piss on your tyres is worse than the war in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis, China's treatment of the Uyghurs and various other global crises.

Then a guy waded and posted "Your problems are nothing, I have cancer" with a grinning face emoji.

This was taken as a jokey attempt to lighten the mood because of the grinning face so lots of other people then chimed in with various health ailments like piles, bunions, fungal nails etc.

But it turned out the guy with cancer wasn't intending it as lighthearted and came back to bollock everyone for mocking him. People apologised but asked why he'd put a grinning face. He then launched into a massive rant about ageism and him not being able to use technology properly because he's in his 60s. The handful of 70+ ladies on the app who're total community bastions absolutely handed his arse to him about him being ageist.

There was mention of 4G radiation and something about not trusting the Covid vaccine in there too somewhere.

It was mental. Genuinely one of the best things that happened to me last year.

@jazzandh thanks for the advice- will try something scented- I’ve been told lemony smells work best?

This is appalling and clearly dangerous as your shield has severe allergies to dog piss on external tyres.

Definitely write a message on the WhatsApp group. And then could you make covers for your wheels? You mentioned there are bushes - could you stick leaves etc all over yourself and hide somewehere to catch them in the act? A cardboard cutout of a police officer?

jazzandh · 20/04/2023 11:13

Google tells me citrus followed by vinegar as top repellent odour for dogs.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:13

@shintyminty no, one hangs off the drive and I don’t want to be blocking a part of the pavement when people are walking past- we have a grass verge on more than half the drive- we are due to have the drive done in another year or so time- but until then there’s only room for one on the drive

@GasPanic exactly- I don’t want that stink wafting all over my front garden where my children play

Would the scent not waft to you from the bush also though?

Clean the tyres with an enzymatic cleaner and park the car on the drive. Problem solved.

This is unfortunate as you're on public property and not on your own land when the tyres are being peed on.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:16

@pyjamalife sometimes fully on the road and sometimes just the tyres on the pavement- when neighbours across the road have more than their usual 3 cars as they then also park extra 2 outside

Is it good for alloys though?

There are trees planted every 3rd house, bushes for almost every house yet this is the only spot someone can find for their dog to do it’s business?

What do you think happens when a dog pees? Do you think dog owners take them to a spot and say, "There you are, sport, go and have your pee now," and said dog pees?

Dogs pee randomly. I do try and tug my dogs away from people's car tyres, but sometimes they cock their leg really randomly and it's done before I've realised.

You're being ridiculous given that you will drive over far worse. It's also likely you, your DH and your kids will walk through where a dog has peed unknowingly as well. As we all probably do.

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/04/2023 11:16

I have to ask...

1/ How do you know it is dog piss? Foxes would probably piss at night (dawn and dusk) but cats will piss on car tyres at any time and are particularly fond of cars as 'territory markers', lurking under them often all day long in drawn out battles of 'Cat Chess'...

2/ How do you know your child is severely allergic to specific animal piss, was this tested for, are they only allergic to dog piss, what about fox piss, cat piss, badger piss, otter piss, etc etc (cat, dog, otter, fox, badger, deer, mink, rat - all common sorts of piss where I live and yes urban otters are a thing here!).

3/ How is your child contacting this allergen - do they hug your car tyres, lick them, can you not stop them touching the wheels/wheel arches?

I discourage/prevent my dogs pissing on peoples stuff, and carry a squirty drink bottle of water when walking them (for drinking but also emergency 'sloosh down piss' purposes) but I also take the view if you leave stuff out in public where the public have access to it, where wildlife has access to it, you have to accept you give up control to some degree as to what happens to that stuff.

What's where your neighbours park their vehicles got to do with anything?

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:17

@OnNaturesCourse yes I can try that and see if it still happens

It’s a weird thing to worry about, tbh.

However, once one dog pees on the tyre, it becomes attractive to other dogs to pee on it. It’s a form of communication for dogs, they all like to leave little messages for each other. There’s not a lot you can do about dogs peeing on the type of a car parked on the roadside.

Peemails. I was once told off by a woman when my dog peed on the road facing side of her wall. I couldn’t care less if a passing dog peed on my wall.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:19

@Backtoreality1 any suggestions? And where could I get some from? Thanks

Dogs just pee randomly, I don't think someone is purposefully 'letting' their dog pee on your car.

They very much don't do it at random! They pee where other dogs have peed, so once it's marked, the smell is there and others will follow suit.

Ah... so you are parking on the pavement and thus might indeed have pissed a pedestrian/dog walker off.

FranksOcean · 20/04/2023 10:33

🤣🤣🤣 this has got to be the best yet

If that means what I think it does, then ^this^

I have a service dog who is remarkably wll trained, but I don't think I could manage to get him to piss on the same cars tyres on command several times a day. And he is so much better trained than the average pet dog, half of which can't be trained to come back (it would seem, according to MN threads). Perhaps if you could identify the person who has so successfully trained their dog, you could suggest they tout for business on some of those threads?

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 11:25

"They very much don't do it at random! They pee where other dogs have peed, so once it's marked, the smell is there and others will follow suit."

There is a difference between scent marking/overlaying and a regular wee.
Otherwise my dog would only wee in one spot in the garden.

Redebs · 20/04/2023 11:25

You could put a deterrent down. Chilli powder for example
