Friend told daughter to 'fuck off and die'

My daughter and her friend are both 10, unbeknownst to me yesterday whilst I was in the shower, they pranked called a few of my friends. I found out because one of my friends text me to tell me. I said no more and that was that.

This morning daughter says to me, 'when we prank called your friend, 'Pete' he told us to 'fuck off and die' three times.'

I wasn't really sure how to handle the situation as they obviously shouldn't have been prank calling but also I think it's pretty obvious they are children.

So I text Pete and the messages went like this -

Me - Hey did you say to Amelia to go fuck herself and die yesterday, she said her and her friend prank called you yesterday, I didn’t know. Did you not realise it was her I presume? Xx

Pete - I didn't until she said her name!!! My intuition was right!!!

I don't really know what he means but I feel really uncomfortable about this.

Am I being dramatic? Should I leave it at that? Is it their own fault for prank calling?

So he said

Fuck yourself and die
Fuck yourself and die
Fuck yourself and die

?

Or much more likely the kids went on and on and on so that he ended up saying it 3 times

Maybe if they had stopped bothering him the firdt time it was clear he was irritated he wouldnt have needed to keep saying it?

Fuck yourself and die
Fuck yourself and die
Fuck yourself and die

?

Wonder how many times she pranked him, what time it was and if poor Pete was in his bed with a hangover trying to get back to sleep....

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/04/2023 18:14

I suspect not...

You're probably right!

TorchwoodWho · 16/04/2023 18:15

AprilFool23 · 16/04/2023 18:12

he's entitled to say what he likes to a prank caller.

If they were adults maybe.

Not kids who aren't even being offensive in what they're saying, just silly and innocent.

He didn't know it was a child, and regardless, it's bloody irritating.
If I received a prank call asking me to buy a cat, I wouldn't think "is this a child?" I'd tell them to get lost (or similar) and hang up. It's stupid and wasting people's time.
It's more concerning OP isn't bothered about her daughter bothering people in such a way, I'd be mortified.

BringtheJury · 16/04/2023 18:15

How do you know it was a few friends if it was only Pete that alerted you to it?

mbosnz · 16/04/2023 18:15

It would be a deal breaker for me with reference to the 'friendship' if I were Pete.

Spambod · 16/04/2023 18:15

They are 10 they did something daft and annoying but no harm to anyone and not a huge deal.
I would not be friends with a man who is aggressive and verbally abusive to children.
his behaviour was much more concerning than theirs IMO.

AprilFool23 · 16/04/2023 18:11

Pete sounds like a real gent 🙄

What a totally OTT nasty response to 10 yr old kids messing around.

I wouldn't be pursuing the friendship further. The little ways we find out what lol are like are many & varied.

I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone who doesn’t discipline their child

Brefugee · 16/04/2023 18:15

not seeing what the consequences of "prank calling" your daughter faced?

TBH it's not an unexpected reply to a prank call.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 16/04/2023 18:15

I think your DD has learnt a valuable lesson here, if you don’t want to be told to fuck off and die, do not prank call people. Seems reasonable to me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/04/2023 18:03

Anyone who wastes my time with prank calls or scam calls will get told to fuck off.

If this is real then you seem awfully calm about your daughter's massive disrespect of you by using your identity to call your friends and dick them around.

I second this. Gonna get no sympathy from me

SeeYouNextTLol · 16/04/2023 18:16

I wish Pete was on this thread. Make things interesting on this dull thread.

He didn't know it was a 10 year old and we don't know how many times they called

Kids voices are fairly obvious, even when they're "disguising" them.

Plus only kids would prank call about stuff like that.

Given you don't seem to want to give your DD any consequences for her idiotic behaviour, I'd say it's a good thing that she's had a bit of an unpleasant experience tbh. Maybe she'll think twice before doing it again.

Absolutely this.
Sounds like a right piece of work, and you're far too indulgent, good on Pete, she needs to apologise
Who knows what he was doing or dealing with and your idiot kid decided it's funny to disturb an adult?

She got her feels hurt by big bad Pete, the poor little treasure

Brefugee · 16/04/2023 18:16

i hope Pete sacks off OP as a friend.

AprilFool23 · 16/04/2023 18:17

by using your identity to call your friends

If they used her identity, they (the friends) would have known who was calling them.

Londongal123 · 16/04/2023 18:10

When people hear go fuck yourself and die it means they want the other person to die. So I should have said suicide or murder should never be joked about.

It's not a literal request. It's a saying that articulates intense displeasure with the other person.

GoodChat · 16/04/2023 18:18

@AprilFool23 a bad phone line changes the way a call sounds, and I 100% know grown adults who would do that

AprilFool23 · 16/04/2023 18:18

MN is nuts today lol.

The other threads are the same.

Jonei · 16/04/2023 18:18

Londongal123 · 16/04/2023 18:04

Suicide should never be joked about, ever. I can understand fuck off but the "and die" part was out of line and I personally would no longer be friends with that person. Kids are dumb and make dumb choices but we were all kids once and we all probably prank called people at some point in our lives. A prank call is not worth dying for. If all they said was fuck off I'd be embarrassed and have my kid apologise but the "and die" part would be a deal breaker for me.

I don't suppose Pete would want to be your friend either.

SeeYouNextTLol · 16/04/2023 18:18

😂 teaching to suck eggs. And suck eggs doesn’t mean you literally …..

Xarrie · 16/04/2023 18:18

Well she won't do it again will she?

BuddyandTinsel · 16/04/2023 18:18

It really doesn't. It's just something some people say. Well, used to. This is the first time I've heard it in years.

Are you always this literal? If someone said take a chill pill would you be looking for pills? If someone said they had a nightmare of a day would you think they meant they'd been sleeping and having bad dreams?

P.S all the MNetters on threads quipping 'fuck off to the far side of fuck and when you get there fuck off some more" don't mean it literally either. There is no place called fuck.

leepingup · 16/04/2023 18:18

For all of you saying I'm lying. Can't be arsed with that nonsense. Here's the message.

Friend told daughter to 'fuck off and die'
